Is happy something that you can have? A few years ago, the answer to this question might of come out wrong. I live happy in aiding and making sure that those around me are happy. My happy comes in sharing my joy among others. One joy that I have made mine over the years is walking. I can remember back to when I was a wee bitty thing, walking and running was a freedom that released all stress and anxiety. In high school I was in track and field. You get out on the field, all you can see is a hurdle; now run and jump. Empty your mind. You have to become one with the movement that your conducting. As I proceeded through life; life happened with marriage and family commitments. Now that the children are more independent it's time to rekindle a happy that once shaped me. This walking path gives me that old found joy in a new setting where I can find some new happiness for me. Someone the other day told me that, "happy looks good on you." For the longest time, I was lost in translation not knowing where to go. Sure the day to day mundane of living is never over unless your ready to give up living. The type of joy I am finding is something that is new. These pages have yet to be written. Leave something alone for long enough and it bites; this time around a second chance comes for me. My happy has been a work in process that has yet to be set. All those walks and silent moments that I spent on this path. Wondering what will be? Wondering if I could be? Wondering why I am being? Now remembering all these moments that led me to here and now. Happy is a bliss that we can just have. As a Leo my laughter and joy inspire so many individuals to be more than they can be. Achieve and reach incredible heights. All those that I touch with my words makes me feel so blessed. Happy is something that I can give to others, but achieving and discovering it's true rare ability is always seemingly beyond my reach. Don't take this the wrong way; the happy that I'm talking about is that true freedom that sets your soul on fire. It's the passion in life that leads to abilities beyond our realm of thinking . Can we achieve these goals? Yes? Perhaps no?! This is your journey of self discovery. It's time to begin. Look through a new lenses without blinking. Believe and you will always achieve. Walk it out, this is the reason for choosing this particular walking point. I'm rediscovering me. What makes me tick? What kind of tock are you? The trees as you pass one after another are mile markers along the path to the new form of you. Walk with me and discover the new and real you. Let nature inspire and shine for you! I'm willing to waste my time here and just learn to find the more important and complex me. I have arrived and know what my happy looks like. Find some happy beyond yourself in a little few moments that we can steal away from life for ourselves. The journey to self discovery starts now!

More Like the Frontier's Edge Trail…read more    Situated in the southwest corner of the Las Vegas valley where the Mountains Edge Community merges with the open desert is a 1.26 mile mult-use paved trail. It is the Mountains Edge Trail. To me, it is the shining star of the Mountains Edge Regional Park which has kept me coming back for more hikes. It was only til recently that this became a separate Yelp listing from the Mountains Edge Regional Park. Prior to my most recent experience here I had checked in at the Mountains Edge Regional Park when I hiked on this trail.   The Mountains Edge Trail is an oval shaped trail with the lengthy segments traveling east and west. It is roughly bounded by Mountains Edge Parkway to the north, Buffalo Drive to the east, Cactus Drive to the south, and Durango Drive to the west. The main trailhead is by the playground near the northeast corner of Mountains Edge Regional Park. This is a relatively flat paved trail. My preference is to hike the trail clockwise. Hiking on it clockwise from the vicinity of the playground, the trail approaches a gentle curve transitioning it from an eastbound to a southbound direction. Approaching the curve there is a view of a church and gardens. The trail connects directly to the meandering trails of the garden. Being that it is an oval shaped trail it soon changes from a southbound to a westbound direction. The lengthy westbound segment of the trail is my favorite. Although there are new homes replacing acres of the desert, there continues to be breathtaking views of the desert reaching towards the mountains and picturesque nature frontier contiguous to Red Rock Canyon. The sinuous trail brings out the best of this frontier's edge vista. These smooth curves transition the trail scenery so that trail users like me are not constantly facing west. Development in the park has also transitioned the trail vistas. What had been open desert in the center of the oval is now a soccer field complex and parking lot. In a sinuous fashion the trail continues to meander westbound where the soccer fields revert to open space (for now). After this long and scenic segment, the trail follows Durango Drive for a brief distance. It soon changes to eastbound where it doubles up as a walking path for Mountains Edge Parkway. Headed back towards the playground there is a grand entrance view of the new soccer fields. Here there is a cool soccer ball sculpture and an abundance of parking. This alleviates the parking shortage that I experienced first-hand during peak times in the park. East of the new soccer fields, Mountains Edge Trail branches away from Mountains Edge Parkway into the main trailhead at the playground.   I am very impressed with the cleanliness and condition of Mountains Edge Trail along with the namesake regional park. Normally It is common to find some graffiti on signing and fixtures along hiking trails. Especially along segments in undeveloped areas. Not here! On a scale from 1 to 5 on "condition and upkeep" I awaard it 5 stars.   I started out the review with the heading "Frontier's Edge."  There is still enough connected undeveloped land south of the Mountains Edge Trail to connect it to the picturesque desert reaching towards Red Rock Canyon that would create a desert panhandle. As an avid hiker I hope that the powers to be create permanent open space bridging the trail to the desert. This panhandle of open desert would also connect it to the nearby James Brown Trail. Essentially the Mountains Edge Trail would connect to the true mountain's edge of the Las Vegas valley creating a hiking destination and better quality of life. Every time I hike on the Mountains Edge Trail the questions are "Will this be the last time that I will see this picturesque desert vista from the Mountains Edge Trail?" "The next time I hike here, will it be a desert oasis surrounded by the next wave of development marching towards the mountains?"    Whether it joins a panhandle of desert connecting to the frontier by Red Rock or surrounded by the next wave of development I recommend Mountains Edge Trail. Now for the ultimate hiking experience in Mountains Edge I recommend hiking the 1.24 Mountains Edge Trail with Shoelace Mountain in the close-by Exploration Park. In conclusion I give Mountains Edge Trail my 4 Star approval.

It looks as though the park has the typical/normal wear and tear of any park that's been around for years in this harsh desert climate. With that being said it's still a pretty good park. They have restrooms, water fountains, two full tennis courts, a basketball court, Big and little kid playground areas, swing sets, a large properly maintenance grass field where lots of kids have been known to practice soccer in. They also have a fitness area as well as a jogging path that I've had the pleasure of using to burn off those pesky calories. Lastly, they have one gazebo area as well as a frequently visited ice cream truck. Hence the reason to burn off those calories, lol.

The park features a large green space, some charcoal grills and tables, a playground, basket ball court, and some exercise equipment. This park is conveniently located near a Sprouts and Cafe Lola, which makes for grabbing some treats and walking over for some enjoyment under the trees very easy. You can walk the trail behind the park, which connects to different parks- the closest being Majestic Bluff Park, I believe. Just a note that this park is by a loud car wash and a busy street, so just be mindful of that when visiting.
