With insane specials, sometimes Lou's is better than the grocery store. Look for Logan on TikTok to find out what's on sale each week. Plenty of spring summer flowers to choose from on the spring and Christmas trees and grave items in the winter their outdoor area is just as fresh as their produce. While not everyone shares Logan's exuberance, everyone is friendly and welcoming. Weekends can be quite crowded but they really work efficiently to get you checked out.

Everything is fresh picked and available Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the corn is the best that I've had in a really long time. The tomatoes are beautiful and beaming, and all of the melons are sweet and perfectly ripe and ready to go. You don't have to wait at all. All of the vegetables have robust flavor and you can't beat the prices. They even have a QR code if you don't have cash with you that way you can just scan it and pay with your Venmo or even a credit card. I was pleasantly surprised to see AN ACTUAL BUTCHER shop in my area, so I stopped in to check it it…read moreout. I almost passed the place, because it is easy to miss, but I am glad I found it. At first, I was just happy to see some interesting and useful veggies and delicacies (Italian, Spanish and other nationalities). But, as I went to the rear of the store, I saw an old fashioned, honest to goodness butcher. There wasn't a ton of stuff in the case, like my former big Italian Butcher shop in NYC, but as we chatted I was to be pleasantly surprised. They were very accommodating. They are even going to get in some whole dried hot chili peppers I have been looking for. I was told by Fabio, the butcher, that they make their own sausage and other items, without chemicals or additives. I asked if there was any possibility of getting a cut of pork neck meat that I used to get in NYC that cooked up like veal cutlets. He brought out some neck meat, and we could see it was too narrow. I asked if it was possible it had been butterflied. He tried it, and it was exactly what I was looking for! So I got my 5 cutlets, the price was great, and was I elated. (Whenever I cooked them, people always said they were the best veal cutlets they ever had because they were so moist and have no grizzle. Of course, I would fess up eventually, lol.) I asked if he might be able to make stuffed veal roasts and other types of roasts, and chicken rollatini. He said he could make whatever I wanted!! He told me if he didn't already know how, that If I told him what I wanted he would either do what I suggested, or research how it should be done. I struck pay dirt with this place! There was some nicely marbled rib eye temptingly displayed right in front of me, that I eventually decided to take. Heck, I was sitting there looking at it the whole time, and it was only $6.99 a lb. He trimmed it as I asked before weighing, and cut it to the thickness I asked for. Of course, like any butcher, they have all sorts of goodies in the back. I will absolutely be back... I can't believe I didn't know the place was there. They've been open 7 months. You gotta try this place.

I introduced myself and explained that I was interested in purchasing approximately 15-20 medium-sized pumpkins, ideally around 8-12 inches, and asked whether the store might consider offering a discount for a bulk purchase. Unfortunately, the interaction became uncomfortable almost immediately. The male employee who answered responded, "I don't know what you're asking." I apologized and tried to clarify that I was asking about purchasing 15-20 pumpkins, approximately 10 inches in size. He responded, in an increasingly impatient tone, "Pumpkin what?" and then, "I don't know what inches they are." At that point, I tried to make my question as simple as possible. I said that the exact size did not matter and asked whether, if I purchased 15-20 pumpkins of any size, the store would consider offering any type of bulk discount. He raised his voice and simply yelled, "NO!" I remained polite and replied, "Okay, no problem. Thank you so much..." Before I could even finish my sentence, he hung up on me. What bothered me most was not that the store does not offer bulk discounts. A simple, polite "No, unfortunately we don't offer discounts for bulk purchases" would have completely answered my question. It was the unnecessarily rude, impatient, and dismissive way I was spoken to--and being hung up on while I was still politely thanking him--that made this such an unpleasant experience. I do have an accent, and during this conversation I felt particularly uncomfortable because I repeatedly tried to clarify my question politely while the employee became increasingly impatient and raised his voice. Regardless of someone's accent or how many times a question needs to be clarified, a customer should be treated with basic courtesy and respect. I called intending to purchase 15-20 pumpkins from this business. Instead, the way this phone call was handled made me reconsider giving them my business.

The meat looks fresh and thick cuts predominate. Focus is in pork, beef and a good variety of sausage ready for the hot skillet. We picked up some beautiful chops for dinner eating later this week, and some breakfast sausage which was too pretty to pass up. Prices still had the post Covid inflationary bump, but we are getting used to that. If as scrumptious as anticipated, the small increase in coin will be quickly forgotten. Besides, the road-trip out to Lancaster would cost us a lot more than the drive to the outskirts of historic river town Bristol, only 25 minutes from home.
