Yesterday at around 2:00 PM, I called this store with a very simple question about purchasing pumpkins in bulk. I introduced myself and explained that I was interested in purchasing approximately 15-20 medium-sized pumpkins, ideally around 8-12 inches, and asked whether the store might consider offering a discount for a bulk purchase. Unfortunately, the interaction became uncomfortable almost immediately. The male employee who answered responded, "I don't know what you're asking." I apologized and tried to clarify that I was asking about purchasing 15-20 pumpkins, approximately 10 inches in size. He responded, in an increasingly impatient tone, "Pumpkin what?" and then, "I don't know what inches they are." At that point, I tried to make my question as simple as possible. I said that the exact size did not matter and asked whether, if I purchased 15-20 pumpkins of any size, the store would consider offering any type of bulk discount. He raised his voice and simply yelled, "NO!" I remained polite and replied, "Okay, no problem. Thank you so much..." Before I could even finish my sentence, he hung up on me. What bothered me most was not that the store does not offer bulk discounts. A simple, polite "No, unfortunately we don't offer discounts for bulk purchases" would have completely answered my question. It was the unnecessarily rude, impatient, and dismissive way I was spoken to--and being hung up on while I was still politely thanking him--that made this such an unpleasant experience. I do have an accent, and during this conversation I felt particularly uncomfortable because I repeatedly tried to clarify my question politely while the employee became increasingly impatient and raised his voice. Regardless of someone's accent or how many times a question needs to be clarified, a customer should be treated with basic courtesy and respect. Wow! What an amazing find! Everytime I go to Franklin Mills Mall, I wanted to stop in, but since it's tucked away in a corner, I would completely miss it. Well, this time I had a little more time onmy hands and decided to make the U-turn and get inside for some $1.50 blueberries that were being advertised. Since it is sitll cold out, the outside didn't seem very impressive, and it mostly looked like a tiny place. But once inside, the place is packed tight with fresh produce, fruit and flowers. Not only is it packed, but the prices are straight throwbacks from 1989 - a bag of mint $1, strawberries packs $2, spinach boxes $2.50 and the list goes on and on. Now gentlemen....and ladies....the flowers is where it is at! You can easily drop $40 on a tiny bouquet. Here, if you pay $40, you can get a Kanye West type of bouquet to make your significant other really drop their jaw! I couldn't stop picking up a giant succulent plant $4, a 6 inch orchid $5, mini rose bushes $1.50...I mean, I wanted them all! They had staff going around fixing the produce and replenishing constantly, which was great. I see where some people think these men are rude, but I think they are told to just work and not even make any eye contact. I love this place. It's my go to for parties or trying to eat more fruits and vegetables. The prices are extremely reasonable and you can always find what your recipe needs. I'm giving them 4 stars because they always have a line, they could use more people behind the counter. Also you then need to go wait in another line for your fruits. * most of the produce needs to be used within a few days or it will turn bad. I love their fresh flowers, and they always last for about 2 weeks. They such a beautiful array of colours and flower types. At times they even have "birds of paradise" which was my dads fav! I purchased 6 poinsettias at this location. After 5 days, 1 was completely dead. The other 5 were fine. I returned to the store and spoke to the manager. He would not replace it. Our company policy is that as soon as it leaves the store, it is your problem if it dies. That seems a bit unfair to me. They don't give receipts, so I had no proof. For a plant that only cost $8 (I'm sure their cost is a lot less), I would think the manager could have shown some good will around the holidays. I dropped the dead plant on his floor and I will never return. Also beware of their produce. Most goes bad quickly. I will pay the extra cost somewhere else to get quality products. read more

Four stars for Produce Junction. It's a no frills, super cheap market for fresh fruit, veggies, and flowers. If you're looking to buy produce in bulk, Produce Junction is the place to go. They also have a wide selection to choose from. Customers are able to grab some items themselves. Other items are kept behind the counter. You simply give your request of what you want and the employee will grab everything for you. Prices are beyond reasonable. I was stunned to see the dirt cheap prices for flowers and plants. $5 orchids, $5-10 roses, $3 baby's breath, $3 foliage, $6 poinsettias, $6 mixed bouquets. These prices are simply unbeatable! You'd spend 3x the amount for 3x less quantity at a florist. I've noticed the employees move really quickly. They're constantly running around and are able to assist customers in a quick and efficient fashion. With that said, be sure to be mindful of how much you're being charged. I've never had an issue with being charged the incorrect amount. However, I can foresee it happening since the employees generally add everything up pretty quickly without using a register. I knocked off a star because 1) they only accept cash 2) they don't use shopping bags, just boxes. In my opinion, both are minor inconveniences... the low prices and fresh products certainly make up for the drawbacks. read more

The place is usually pretty crowded no matter what time of the day. The parking stinks! They lose a star for that. My other issue is the freshness of the items. The stuff tends to spoil faster than fruit we get from Bj's or Costco. They lose another star for that. All in all the place is good for fresh fruits and veggies if you're on a budget. The produce here is awesome. As a newly-turned vegetarian, this is my heaven. As mentioned by another reviewer, some of the options they have are difficult to find anywhere else. The reviewer who mentioned Reading Terminal Market is somewhat correct - they're amazing, too...but when you're driving an extra half hour and paying for parking, it becomes too much of a hassle. Produce Juction has a huge selection, and if - important caveat here - you're able to use the bulk amounts they give you before they go bad, you will absolutely save a bundle. Just the other day I purchased the most amazing orchids and poinsettias as a gift. I have done the flowers for 2 weddings and a baby shower from here too. Just today I bought 3 Heather plants that are gorgeous and another orchid and it came to $9.50. What???? They always have what you need to decorate for any season. My house is full of beautiful plants that have lasted years all purchased from Produce Junction, and I never spent more than 3 bucks. PROS: (1) Absolute BEST prices I have ever seen anywhere, hands down. I go in with 20 or 40 bucks and walk out with several bags of food- usually so much that you can't even fit it into your fridge when you get home and you end up giving some of it away to family and friends cause you'll never eat it all! (2) Food is pretty good quality- It does fluctuate- most days are great or pretty good, some days just OK, but never bad. Just do a quick scan of the bag as they hand it to you. (3) Great selection- They have so many varieties of fruits and greens, even upscale items, and lots of hard to find ethnic items too. And they have great flowers and lawn decorations at great prices. CONS: (1) Yes it's pre-bagged, but that's how they keep the prices so insanely low isn't it? No need to stock shelves, clean aisles, or manage shopping carts. I always tell my family and friends before I go so we can split the food and costs. On the plus side it's always a quick shopping trip. (2) No shopping carts, but they do have hand baskets. This can be really hard if you're with kids, but if you plan ahead with a stroller and hook or separate cart for bags you'll be OK. They do offer to carry the food out to your car for you if you need that. (3) Yes the staff does pressure you to make your order quickly. It's annoying but not a deal breaker, I mean what are they gonna do if you take your time? They'll live with it! If it bothers you just make a list before you go, or stand back and decide what you want before you get to the counter. They have everything written up on a board with prices so you can do this. (4) Parking has always been bad- but they have an alternate lot across the street on the side, which I've been using since the day they opened it up. (5) Cash only, but they do have an ATM inside (the kind that charges fees of course). SUMMARY: The pros outweigh the cons because of the insanely LOW prices to get a HUGE amount of diverse and good quality food. I moved over an hour away years ago and continue to make monthly or semi-monthly trips down because I have not ever seen prices like it anywhere else. (Still looking!!!)
