100% Vegan BBQ?! Sign me up. My friend came here to get their mushroom sandwich and raves about it. She also sent me a video from Tik Tok from someone who got that sandwich and rating it. My mouth was watering. We came on a Friday night. They were not too busy. My only con was there wasn't enough air circulating in the dining area so it was a wee bit muggy. So we decided to order our food to go. Their menu is very simple yet it was hard for me to decide what I wanted. They were out of buns so I couldn't order the sandwich. We ordered: Dinner: -Jackfruit Ribs - 2 sides: Kale greens & Baked beans -Crab cakes - 2 sides: Double Mac & Cheese -Oyster Mushrooms When we got home, our food was still hot. It was amazing! The Mac and cheese was on point, the crab cakes had a hint of sweetness from the sauce and the oyster mushrooms were my favorite. All had great flavor. My fiancée really enjoyed his meal. Especially the sides. I would definitely recommend this to all the vegan lovers out there or anyone wants to go a healthy alternative. I know what you're thinking. Vegan BBQ?? Isn't that an oxymoron?? I was skeptical at first, I will absolutely admit, but after trying the place out, I think I'm a fan. The place itself isn't big but does have adequate seating. Their menu is full of unique all vegan options. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. You order at the counter and they'll call you once your food is ready. My fiancee and I got our order to go and here's what we had: -Jackfruit ribs dinner w/ kale greens and baked beans -Crab cake dinner with double mac & cheese -Fried mushroom chicken We hardly waited long at all before everything was ready. Their jackfruit ribs, kale greens, and fried mushroom chicken were big hits with me. The mac & cheese was surprisingly good too. I didn't care too much for the crab cakes because they were a little rubbery to me, though my fiancee really enjoyed them. I'm curious to come back and try their oxtails next time. I heard rumors of a new vegan spot close by so I wanted to check it out. We don't have many options as vegans around this area. Maaaan, let me tell you!!! Ike's Vegan BBQ is my new favorite! The location is easy to get to with ample parking. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a very sweet woman who happened to be the owner's mom. Her son was slinging the vegan goodies in the kitchen behind her. The vibes were welcoming and warm! Now to the food. These Fried Oyster Mushrooms made me go from a mushroom hater to a lover. I woke up this morning craving them! Perfect peppery batter and crunch, but not too deep fried or oily. The vegan shrimp were delicious along with the French fries and side of poboy sauce. The greens and cabbage were cooked perfectly and with tons of flavor. I got the house organic lemonade which was the right about of sweet and tart, and finished everything off with the warm peach cobbler. I can't wait to go back for the jack fruit ribs and Mac n cheese, it was hard to decide what to order because everything looked incredible. Thanks for the comforting delicious vegan food, Ike's! I went here for the first time about a month ago. It took me this long to decide whether or not to leave an honest review. There's nothing I love more than supporting a small business, but the experience we had was inexcusable. When we arrived it was clear there was no AC in the building and it was one of those awfully hot and humid days. We sat in the dining room to wait for our food and nearly didn't make it. The thermostat said it was 86 degrees! We tried turning on a nearby fan but it was broken. We ended up asking for our food to-go as a result of this. I'm not sure how the folks behind the counter were able to work in those conditions. Ordering was a wild experience. We looked online before arriving, to have an idea of the menu options. Only to be told almost everything we asked for was "seasonal" and unavailable. What??? Not only that, they were out of several menu items and while we waited for our food, we were told they were out of sauce for my meal and I needed to order something else. Good grief. Upon getting the food home, it was nearly inedible. Most of the food was well seasoned with lots of flavor but that was the only thing it had going for it. The Mac and cheese was incredibly salty and the texture of some of the items was unsettling. I applaud this place for trying to make bbq inclusive for vegans but sometimes it's best to know when something just can't be made well without meat. All of this to say, to feed 3 people, we paid an insane $90. That would've been a lot even if the food was good but the fact that we ended up throwing it all out was even worse. I would like to give this place the benefit of the doubt and hope we caught them at an unflattering time. But needless to say, we won't be returning. read more

On my way home from a cheese pick up at Urban Stead on Woodburn Avenue, I passed by Ike's BBQ. Now, I'd passed Ike's many time over the years, but their new sign touting Ike's Vegan BBQ had me flip the car around. There is a clean, simple dining room, but I opted for carry out and in a quick 10 minutes, I was on my way with hot, fresh dishes to share with my husband. I'm vegetarian, not vegan, but I wish we had more restaurant choices for either. Ike's did not disappoint! I ordered jackfruit BBQ ribs and fried oyster shrooms. Each comes with two sides, so we had baked beans, French fries, kale greens and sautéed cabbage. My husband eats anything- and we both enjoyed every bite. I live across the street from Ike's and hadn't been in there since they went vegan until just the other night and oh, man -- I should not have waited so long! It always felt warm and inviting in there but i am absolutely loving this new menu they have! This time around i got their oyster burger, a side of fries, and some mac & cheese. All of it was super scrumptious! The burger was quite tasty, as were the fries, and the mac & cheese had a certain spice to it -- maybe a touch of habanero? I'm not really sure what it was except that it was delightful. Staff were inviting and courteous. Was going to go over there just now to try some of the other new menu items but just saw that they close on weeknights at 8:30pm. Am looking forward to picking up something for lunch from there tomorrow. Can't say enough good things about the new menu. read more

Old school neighborhood spot; but good good good! We had fried catfish which was sizable and fried crispy and hot. Just like yo granny on Friday. Baked beans need less brown sugar but the potato salad is delish! Sauce is house-made and good. Fries are crinkled nothing special but hot and savory with added salt making them a good accompaniment to the fish. The rib tips were off the chain good. Tasted brined and smokey. Tips were old school meaty with gristle and just enough fat for flavor. Atop old school white bread! Brought back memories of my Cleveland roots where there's a rib joint on every corner. No inside dining since COVID just take out and delivery, but you can order ahead online. Can't wait to go back on a Sunday and get those pork chops I saw on the menu. Ordered on Uber eats because it came up with a 30% off coupon and I love BBQ. Got to the menu and saw fish and chips, another love of mine. Weird to get fish and chips from a BBQ place, but whatever. They were quick with the preparation. When it got here, I found first off, no tarter sauce. Lucky I had some in my fridge. Next, a new one for me... the fish was fried with breading on one side only and skin still attached to the fish. I have never had skin as part of my fish and chips before. I did my best to remove the skin where I could, and the fish I did get to eat was fine though didn't taste overly fresh like they claimed. The fries... super greasy. Like think garlic butter fries, but no garlic butter. Just tons of oil. I mixed up some garlic butter to try to mask the flavor of oil so I would have something to eat for lunch. Maybe i caught this place on a bad day. I'm not from here. I came here on recommendation from someone that works here and lemme tell You i was so disappointed! As you can see in the pics, this was extremely poorly done. It looks NOTHING like the pics I found here. Look at that Mac n cheese, it looks baked in the other picture...but look at my pic with that dry overcooked cornbread muffin! It all WAY too salty! They told me 25 minutes I came 30 minutes later and STILL wanted another 30 just to get this mediocre BS! I told you I'd be getting back to you about this place once I knew a bit more, and here I am to keep said promise First and foremost - yes, the place is called Ike's Barbeque, but during the week, this is a soul food or meat-n-3 joint, and there is no bbq to be had. If you want to try the bbq, you need to come in on Sundays Basically, they run with a limited menu of 2-3 meat dishes (typically smothered pork chops, baked chicken, and fried fish) and 4-5 sides (typically corn, green beans, collard greens, red beans, rice, corn bread muffins, and fries) during the week on a steamtable setup at the same counter where you order. So unless you're there on Sunday, don't look at the menu, as most of it wont be available - instead, just ask....whats good today? What looked good to me today was the smothered pork chops, so I got that with green beans, rice w/gravy, and a corn muffin for 7.99. (add a chop +3.00). The chop and gravy was solidly good, with the moistness of the gravy somewhat overcoming the hard/dry rice (I think they need a steamer to hold it in to keep it moist) but the green beans and the corn muffin were sensational. The green beans were well seasoned with herbs and pork-y goodness, needing no added salt or pepper; and the corn muffin was moist, more cake-y than crumbly, and *very* slightly sweet. Both were among the best I have ever had of their type. I am hoping that they will add mac-n-cheese to their weekly sides, but for now, that too is Sunday only I would love to try the bbq sometime, and even moreso the cornish game hen, but I am not in this area on Sundays. Will someone please try the game hen (and the mac-n-cheese?) and tell me if its worth a special side trip on a Sunday? Pretty please? There are a half a dozen or so tables scattered around in front, and close to a dozen parking spots on the side of the building. Fair warning - while I have had no issue here whatsoever, some might find the surrounding neighborhood to be a little rougher around the edges than than one might be comfortable with. Menu is not consistent. I have only ordered 5 times and 4 out 5 the grease was really old. I always get whiting fish dinner and this last time the grease just overtook the whole meal. My son gets the fried chicken and again chicken and fries were just sitting in oil. Fish, chicken or fries were just soggy. But when they are on they are on. Stumbled across Ike's after striking out at another local BBQ shop. And boy am I glad that the other place didn't have their act together because I wouldn't have found Ike's! I placed an order for 2 catfish dinners and two fried chicken dinners. Dinners come with 2 sides (3 on Sundays!) and a piece of cornbread. Our sides were mac & cheese, yams, greens and baked beans. Overall it's a cool spot. Black owned. Their hours are tbd depending how the family feels whether or not they want to prep and cook for the day. Sunday is best to get them (a soul/comfort food based restuarant can't beat an after church crowd because majority of the patrons and where Ike's is situated have the type of worship service that starts at 9a and ends like 2:30p so folks starving). We caught them when I guess they must've just opened. Because some of the food wasn't ready yet or still had to be brought from home or etc. An older woman, who I take is associated with the business, was bringing in discounted Kroger baked goods from her car to give folks options for dessert. There was homemade vanilla pound cake which was great! Honestly top 5 I've ever had. I got the baked chicken combo for pork chops still had to be brought from home. Dressing was too salty. But sides were great and so was main entreé. It's extremely intimate inside so grab and go is best option. This is a staple of the community. read more

I live in Walnut Hills and I travel via Woodburn back and forth around the city. I've seen this place and keep saying I'm going to stop by. I'm on a mission looking for BBQ. Yesterday I saw the grill outside breathing smoke so today I was out and decide to stop in. I was right there at 11:00am when they open...the door was looked and I could here music and clanging so I holler back "hello" a few times, getting louder until somebody answers back. She (I wish I knew her name--she's the cook, and a beautiful friendly person) comes to the door, apologetic, I say, "no problem" and let her know I'm looking for rib tips. She starts to uncover the items on the steam table, OMG! Collard greens, Mac n cheese, smothered pork chops, fried and baked chicken, salmon croquettes, cabbage, white rice and low and behold some perfectly bbqued rib tips. I had no idea, I am overwhelmed and over joyed all at once. We talk about what I'm going to get and she tells me I can get a rib tip dinner. I say nope I want an order of rib tips and maybe I'll get a dinner. Dinners are $7.99, a fair price. I get my tips, and a fried chicken dinner, choosing collard greens and Mac a cheese with the complimentary corn muffin that was fresh out off the oven...and baby, I tell you I was not disappointed. The rib tips are amazing, the best I've had in Cincinnati since Goodies closed down. The Mac n cheese, awesome, perfectly seasoned, and yes Tim worth the drive on Sunday or better, yet, call to find out when they have it cause today is Thursday so they do have it on different days. The greens are really good, perfectly tender, seasoned, not bitter. The fried chicken superb, amazing and that little corn muffin...what can I say, delicious. Everything was really good, more than I hoped for. I can't eat like this everyday but this will be my go to once every couple months. The sides, even the Mac n cheese had a little hint of sweetness so I'm sure she puts a little sugar in everything but it was still all very good. Needless to say if you are reading this, run don't walk to get yourself some of this amazing food. I like Ike's more than most soul food places in Cincinnati. I feel like they make the food closest to the household I grew up in. It really is soul food. Heavy and rich with flavor, this will most definitely trigger the "itis" for the folks that know what I mean. The fried fish is outstanding and so is the potato salad. Upon arriving the gentleman at the front completely ignored us for almost 10 minutes. No eye contact or anything but another gentleman came and took our orders after a short wait. This is one of the places where the menu has everything they make and sale but not necessarily what they are cooking on that day so I would advise you to call ahead if you have a taste for something because it may not be available. This is an old school soul food restaurant that was good back in the day. I really, really try to support black businesses but I have to give an honest review. I went on a weekend afternoon, the didn't have any sides but vegetables (greens, green beans & corn), oh they did have white rice. They had fried and bake chicken, ribs and porkchops smothered in gravy. They fried my husband some fish to order and I had some fried chicken, 1 bbq rib, greens and corn muffins. The inside decor was the exact same as back in the day. The customer service was okay. All of that wouldn't matter if the food was the BOMB but it wasn't. It was mediocre at best.
