They've done a great job of shoe-horning this IKEA into a tight space. Outside, the parking lot area was cramped enough that they've built a multi-story parking deck. On a sunny weekend, I'll be that's a fun time trying to get in and out. But this evening, I was able to find a spot in the outside lot. Inside, it's the same IKEA that I've seen in other cities including my own Charlotte. You're led to take the escalator to the top floor where you follow the arrows through the showroom of furniture and configurations to make up bathrooms, bedrooms, sitting rooms and kitchens. It's quite cleverly designed to make you think, "Yes, I want that." Downstairs, through areas of kitchenware, bathroom fixtures, lighting, chairs, etc. At the end, the warehouse where you pull your own flat-pack boxes and roll them up to the register. The store is very clean, very tidy and completely organized. There is no wasted space and at the same time, it seems roomy and airy. Typical for Scandinavian design! There is a restaurant upstairs with a cafeteria-style line that has assorted Swedish dishes. There is a snack bar downstairs with sodas, hot dogs, cinnamon buns and such. I did have a hot dog (with knife and fork) as they're only a dollar! Tip: Plan ahead for what will and what won't fit in your car. I was in the area and I wanted to visit the 2nd Ikea in Virginia! Compared to the Ikea in Woodbridge, I definitely like this Ikea's layout more. It's a straight path instead of it going around in a circle. I feel like because of this the ikea feels less cramped. I've never had food from the Ikea Restaurant until this day because i've heard some bad things from friends about their food. I decided to try it and it was pretty decent! Not such why my friends talked so down on their food. Eating at the restaurant felt like eating at an actual restaurant. It was really cozy. The windows made it really bright in there which I really liked. In conclusion, I prefer this Ikea over my local Ikea but I will not be making a three hour drive to get there haha! read more

we had not bee to an ikea in almost 20 years! the food is always sooo good. you can't go to ikea and not have lunch. food service workers were a little slow but they were working hard to serve the customers. the selection of everything we will never need was endless. the value of ikea wasn't really there like it was many years ago, but i guess that'd what is expected. we experienced some great customer service for very pleasant employees. but the enitre stores seeths wokeness. wokenes is a form of hatred toward those who dont think look or act like those who embrace this ideology all while hidding behind dei being pushed by social justice. there is no value in the store any more. read more

Once you've seen one IKEA you've seen them all. Really. I just think IKEA's are to darn big... and to many people. Going there is like going to Busch Gardens... people people people and all slowly walking the queue, getting in your way.... non stop.... With that said, and I don't mean to come across negative, there's a lot to see here... If you're going to go to the store you really need to make the time to go... because you're going to be here for a while. Just like Busch Gardens. ;) In order to make my visits as quick as possible what I like to do is use the website to identify the product I want, copy it's number down and it's warehouse location, and then go to the store and get the product I want and get out! Yes my young padwan's you can do this to. How you ask? You walk in, but don't go upstairs... head to the right... and go through the elevator area... Then hang a hard left just before you enter the gallery through the 2 big silver doors.... This puts you at almost the very end of the yellow brick road that normally takes 2 hours or more and puts you at the warehouse. From there, use your warehouse location to expertly navigate the warehouse and get your product... put it in your cart (if it's that big) and from there wham bam thank you ma'am, you're in line and on your way back to your vehicle... In no time flat... So let it be written. So let it be done! read more

What can I say, I love this place. The store is pretty big which requires elevators. You can find almost anything you need or want for your home in this store. Various bathrooms, almost an entire floor dedicated to dining, lots of healthy options to choose from. I liked that they had a kids menu that actually included veggies! I joined the ikea family, it was pretty simple to do on a kiosk, out popped my card with a coupon for a free frozen yogurt to use, pretty nice! As a member you also get perks such as a free hot tea or coffee! They also have a spot to drop off your child if you want to shop alone, employees are screened for background checks & are current in CPR. Children must be a certain height and must be potty trained- the kids zone had a huge ball pit, tv & other things to keep kids entertained. Checking out can be a bit confusing if you are purchasing larger items...before you proceed to the checkout lines, make sure you get help from the desk/ kiosks before that where an employee can explain the process to you if it is your first time. If you are petite like me, make sure you bring someone to help you if you are purchasing large heavy items because you basically need to find the isle your item is in (in our case a bed, bed frame, kids kitchen set) and then remove and place the boxed item in your cart, push it and load it in your vehicle all on your own. As far as I knew, there was no assistance for that or at least it was not offered. They do have designated vehicle loading zones which was helpful with nice wide parking spaces. read more

With out a doubt IKEA has brought excitement to Norfolk, Virginia since we now boast only the second store in the Old Dominion. They are celebrating there grand opening weekend today with lots of fun things scheduled for a family to enjoy. This is my first time in any IKEA store and I really had no idea what to expect. Find them just off I-64/N Hampton Blvd. I really was not in a rush to check them out, but did so on a small lull between opening day and opening weekend and it paid off. It was easy to park with a traffic brigade directing customers. Expect to park in the garage and then if your lucky like me happy dance if you score surface. The lot was clean and everything fresh. They have spaces close up for car pool and even electric car plug-ins by the front door. I will go through a few of my observations in the 45 minutes I spent touring. I say touring because it is like an amusement park of home goods. How big, over 300,000 square feet. With a store this humongous don't expect a quick stop or you will be disappointed. It's a destination that a family can spend hours shopping. Don't worry if you get hungry because your well taken care of in their fabulous cafeteria. So the first thing I noticed is that the Swedes seem to be a bit OCD. I mean everything that I encountered was well thought-out, thoroughly organized and planned to the tee. Like the children's area that's staffed on the first floor to drop your kids off while parents shop. Restrooms are also located on the first floor by lockers. Grab a bag, or a cart and strap in because it's a journey. I took the escalator up to check the cafeteria that was packed out and organized by line and host seating customers. Staff cleared off tables and wiped them down. The delicious looking food comes out of odd looking functional trays that are pushed by a cart. Trays are put in a storage area well marked. All leftovers are recycled. I then started my trek around a maze that once your in there's no turning back until exiting. Goods are well displayed, prices marked and tons of staff to assist. I got a few hellos, but not one asked if they could help me which seemed odd. Or is this the way they are trained. I did not take offense. Displays are magnificently put together and price ranges provided to assist guest staying within a budget. You can find children's bedroom sets too! They also have technology built in for customers to locate items easily and even order on iPads. So although I had no intention of purchasing anything I did see something I had an immediate need for, light bulbs. They had single led bulbs for 99 cents. There really is nothing you cannot find, it's the Disneyland of home furnishings and more. Checkout lines were well staffed and the cashier was both helpful and friendly. Music was pumping from a nearby DJ that is part of the company's opening entertainment. My card processed without incident. They have recycled bags for small item carryout. Prior to departing I looked over the concessions area with offerings of pretzels, pizza, cinnamon buns, drinks and more. They provide a comfortable area to enjoy snacks before leaving. It's not easy summing up an IKEA experience for the first time but I will try. The store offers more inventory than you would ever need in a lifetime. This makes them unique as a one stop shop destination. The merchandise is impeccably laid out in sections that make sense. I felt a family friendly atmosphere, but with them in opening mode it may have missed the target today. The drawback for consumers like myself are easy to identify. If you want to pop in to purchase a few items and be out in a few minutes this is not the place. I was pleasantly surprised and will return. Welcome to Norfolk IKEA. read more

I LOVE IKEA! What do I love more than IKEA? Having IKEA close to my home! Literally 15/20 minutes away! Yayyyy! I really wanted to be there first thing in the morning for their grand opening, however, I had to get the kiddos to school. All good! Came around 3 and it definitely died down. Was able to park easily and get in without any hassle. Parking is plentiful with both lot parking and garage parking. Upon entering staff is extremely friendly. Signs make it clear on where to go to find what you're looking for. I decided to take a complete walk around which took me about 45 minutes just browsing in certain areas. I loved how friendly staff members were. I even chatted to two of them for about 5-6 minutes each. One member thought that YELP was awesome and thought it was cool I was elite. Would love an event here! Another member was great with my kids and we just chatted like we were friends. That alone made me smile throughout my tour. The cafe was extremely packed. I really wanted to try some food this visit but will definitely come back at another time. Everything was very neat considering they had been open for several hours and I'm sure the crowds were large. A pinnacle of furniture design and innovation of style. The new IKEA Norfolk is a great grand addition to the area. The parking garage is large and spacious and the staff are there to greet you and guide you to open spots. We went today and there was plenty of parking and the traffic inside was steady but not overwhelming. When you arrive inside you'll be greeted with a similar design and layout of the one in NOVA. The rooms here are either rugged, gothic, boho chic, or urban loft. Yet there were more darker designs with black walls, ravens, and hand sculptures. The one that the me off was grandma couturier with velvet greens and oversized roses galore. They had a great layout overall, steady checkout, and a clean café from what I could see. A great way to kill an afternoon whereas we spent 3hrs tops easily in there. read more

I work for IKEA in Norfolk. It's a great place to work. After 5 years, I get 5 weeks of vacation and excellent health care coverage. IKEA has great products. I can assure you that all the employees will do anything they can to resolve any issues that comes up. Like any business that is handling 40,000 plus articles, sometime some of those articles are out of stock, when that article is part of a greater ensemble like a kitchen, it can be problematic. This is why all kitchen customers are given both the direct phone number for the store and an email for the kitchen team. You are more than welcome to use either or both. Yesterday I had four phone calls, all were returned and all four issues were addressed to the customers' satisfaction. The other day they were out of the small shelf I was looking for and a sales person helped me find an alternative piece that ended up working perfectly and was less expensive. I would say this is literally the most horrible customer service I've ever received at any ikea I've ever been to (like 4 other ones, so I'm obviously not a pro). For example, when I went to the checkout, I realized I left my ikea family card in my car, so I asked the checkout lady if she should take the next customer so I could pull it up in my phone, and she said "No." Literally just "No." She then told me they were understaffed. So I guess the bad customer service comes from the management. read more

As a mom of two small children I'm always prepared for total chaos anytime I venture out with the kids to go shopping. IKEA helps to eliminate some of the troubles I have in other stores by making my shopping experience with the kids one that the whole family can enjoy. They have a child play area where your kids can play while you shop. I like to keep my kids within in eyesight at all times so this is not something I'd ever use but it's still very convenient!! Their family restroom is really cool because they have a chair (for nursing mothers), a changing area and a complimentary diaper dispenser!!! How cool is that?? The restaurant area is charming and nicely priced. It also tastes pretty good. Overall I've also been a fan of IKEA but these thoughtful little conveniences will keep me coming back!! read more

Went to IKEA last night. We bought items from the "As Is" area, the organization area, plants, and the kitchen. I won't buy any paper napkins anywhere else than IKEA. The Fantastisk napkins are large and you only need one. You need to use 2 or more of the other brands. They come in colors too. I also got 3 pks of their round cork trivets. I use them under my planters. Speaking of, I got white ceramic planters and 2 more Chilipulvers for my large plants. I finally got the Pepprig bucket & caddy. I had bought the Pepprig cleaning set and the dustpan & broom on my last trip but were out of buckets. I have the full set now. I love IKEA. read more

I love ikea and have been going for many years at the Woodbridge location so I am so happy that it has finally opened here in Norfolk. The layout is pretty much like the others. There are showrooms to walk thru to get lots of ideas then you go thru the marketplace to pick up items. There's a restaurant and also an area to drop your kids off to play (for free). Kids can stay there for an hour while you shop and they give you a pager so you won't forget what time you need to pick them up. After the checkout area there is also snack you can grab on the way out and also food items you can buy to take home. It's definitely a place to check out. Lots of good home ideas and prices are marked really well too. Just remember you have to pick up furniture pieces yourself and then put them together when you get home. read more

Oh IKEA, I am so disappointed. I've just wasted my entire weekend waiting for a delivery that never happened. The first delivery was cancelled 1 hour prior to the end of the delivery time window because our order was never wrapped by IKEA. The second delivery was set for today and 90 minutes prior to the delivery window closing, the delivery people left a message saying today's delivery failed because we weren't home. My husband and I were weeding our front yard at the time they claimed to be outside our house, so we called the number they left but couldn't speak to a human. We called the delivery service directly and they called the driver who denied lying about being here and refused to return for another two days. I then called IKEA to complain but decided to just cancel the order and shop elsewhere. I spoke with customer service, spent more than 5 minutes on hold only to be given a case number and told someone from the Norfolk IKEA would call me to discus cancellation within 72 hours. When I asked for a direct phone number for the Norfolk store in case no one called, and was told they didn't have direct phone numbers so if Norfolk doesn't call, I have to call customer service AGAIN in 4 days so they can give me a new case number and restart the callback clock. I used to love IKEA but after this, I will shop elsewhere. read more

Pretty good food after walking around in their MASSIVE show rooms, very clean place, definitely levels up Norfolk. Staff in the cafeteria were really nice, the vibes were super cool too except for a baby crying but what can you do. How can you not give IKEA a 5 star review? This place is SO fun. This location is actually 2 stories, and seems to change daily. I went in one day seeing certain displays, and within the week was back and things had changed. So fun! Also, free coffee for members, who doesn't like that?? Fair warning though, it is only in the upstairs cafe, where they have no to-go cups. Everything is stocked well for the most part, and is laid out in traditional IKEA fashion, making it a fun experience the whole time. Just found out they have delicious organic ginger cookies in the food section too. What's not to love?! read more

This place is very large and they have a lot of things at good prices. Honestly? This is an experience. You can take your kids and they can play while you shop - they even have a play area! They have a ton of parking and special parking for handicap, families with soldiers, and other types. Their is a cafe where you can grab food. Tip: follow the arrows! They have pre-made rooms that the arrows lead you through and they they have spaces just for different items (like sofas, desks, chairs, plants, etc.) They have really nice indoor plants! My gripe isn't with the store setup or selection, my gripe is with the staff. THE STAFF SHOULD TO FINE TUNE THEIR PEOPLE SKILLS. 8/5 Maybe my fault ... but IKEA is known for being extremely helpful. I didn't think it was a big deal to go to return something in store alone. I get there, the exchange people are rude, but they called someone outside to help me unload the boxes. They kept saying, yellow vest people will help, that's their job. They kept saying, they should be out there. There clearly was no one out there. Especially in a vest. Needless to say they call a kid to help. No problem. I go back in, the lady who was just there when I walked in goes, you can go down there to him. The associate helps me. I say, I'm doing an exchange I wanna get the black one. He gives me a gift card and says... have a nice day. I'm say what's the location, he sighs deep and proceeds to look it up. I then say, I'll need help. He looks at my hand (wedding ring) and says, "where's that husband of yours to help you... ??? So you're just gonna put that together yourself, hmm ok?!" I look back and kept going. He says just look for yellow vest they'll help. I'm around the store, no yellow vest in site. I go to the register, they tell me to ask this other lady to call the yellow vest on the radio. After chasing her as she walked in a different direction, I get to her and she's an older lady. She seemed apprehensive to call help. She asks can "we" team lift. We then worked it out and got it on the cart. I get outside and of course, yellow vest workers are MIA. I walk back in to asked for help, and a gang of yellow vest workers are coming out. I'm thinking cool cool. So I walk back out and wait by my truck. The workers hit the door and they all started taking the vest off as if they were off work. I became extremely frustrated and I get it loaded myself with a ton of effort. I'm on the last box and the yellow vest workers pop up. Oh ma'am let us help you... I sternly say I GOT IT!!!! and I rolled out. ... NOTE If you are an avid IKEA shopper maybe you know how to read the boxes. They don't type the color, they put a circle on the boxes. So yep my bad about not knowing that. Nothing is ever in stock. I can understand a few weeks of backorder. Not six months of refreshing the same stupid page only to find that, yet again, the item is out of stock. Nice, smaller IKEA. This one was smaller than the ones that I have near me but it happened to be better stocked on most items. Very clean store that was every easy to get in and out of, especially the parking lot which sometimes is a maze for the ones in congested locations. We were able to get some new glass containers and pickup some snacks for our trip through Norfolk. Also saw some electric chargers, too bad I decided to bring the other car. read more

FINALLY an IKEA in the Hampton Roads! I was able to have the opportunity to come on the sneak preview day. The staff were super friendly and very helpful throughout the whole place. The showrooms were designed and decorated very beautifully. It wasn't too crowded as I thought it would be. I recommend downloading the app so you can add any item to your shopping list instead of writing the items down on the piece of paper that is given in the store. The app is definitely convenient. There was a minor problem with picking up some of our selections. Some furnitures say they are in stock, but when it came time to pick up, it turned out to be out of stock. The employees were confused along with us. They do need improvement as far as regulating inventory. Once at the register I had to show a barcode for a "self-served" item, but she had no idea what to do. But since it's the first day, I believe the few tweaks and miscommunications should improve. Ikea doesn't offer motorized carts for disabled folks to use. Fine, whatever. Be insensitive. They do offer manual wheelchairs, and that's what I'd like to complain about today. The handrims on the wheelchairs are so small that an adult hand cannot easily grip them. This, plus the large bars strapped to the back of the wheelchair, make it almost impossible to wheel oneself around. So instead of my husband pushing the cart with our purchases in it (remember, I don't have a cart on my wheelchair because it's a manual), he has to push me around. This means that neither of us can purchase anything. Because we can't push two objects at the same time. Don't bring your disabled self to the store without at least two tenders: one to push you and one to push the cart. It's just WILD that ikea thinks this is enough aid. Lastly - the cart dispenser at the warehouse portion of the store was broken, and employees literally refused to 1) fix the dispenser, 2) summon someone to fix the dispenser, or 3) get carts out for the growing line of people who could not complete their shopping because there were no carts available. Do better ikea. This was a sh&tshow. read more

Sooo I know people go to ikea for furniture or whateva but have you had the meatballs? If you haven't then what are you doing?! The restaurant area is very spacious and has lots of seating for people I went during the opening weekend and I was actually very impress on how quickly the food line was moving I mean yeah there were people lots of people but not nothing unmanageable. They have a few different food options but I had to try the meatballs because that's what everyone I've ever talked to was raving about So the best way I can describe the food was very homey like I can picture my mom cooking this food for dinner the vegetables weren't soggy over cooked but like that perfect in between and let's be real those mashed potatoes were instant not saying that in a shady way either I very much enjoyed them the gravy was definitely the star of the whole show that kind of brought the whole plate together for me I didn't care for the tomato soup really it was very flavorful but had an overwhelming spicy kick to me anyways but still very good But let me tell you about my favorite thing I got and it was that cake y'all it was like eating a candy bar! I couldn't get enough! So overall I had a really great experience I think the pricing of the food was very reasonable and I can't wait to explore more of their menu. read more

IKEA is an amateur interior designers dream and nightmare! Ok, yes, you're going to die and go to Heaven here - but you're also going to be insanely anxious and annoyed by how much stuff is in an IKEA! The store is massive and confusing - two things that usually make for terrible shopping experiences, but again, it's oddly satisfying how you're swept into it all. One minute you're reimagining your kitchen, the next you're thinking of all the ways you can host your abominable in-laws over the summer on the new patio furniture YOU DON'T NEED TO BUY! Get out of the line, now! Yea, this is one of those places where you need a life coach with you to stop you from impulsively buying random stuff. I am SO glad I don't have to go to Northern VA to go to IKEA anymore! They have so many different items at this store and affordable pricing also. In addition, the quality of the items is very good. If you've never been to an IKEA you will be pleasantly surprised. There are many displays in different types of rooms on how you can accessorize all your home decor needs. As you walk through an endless array of items each area you walk through is dedicated to a specific part of the house (bedroom, kitchen, etc.). So this makes it convenient if your looking for something specific. There is also a dining area which I didn't try this last time but have tried at other IKEA's. Really enjoyed my first and second trip to Ikea Norfolk! It was my husbands first time to Ikea but he hung in there and caught a few dreams of having the storage we desire around the home. Food: really enjoyed the food lots of options for all food preferences and restrictions. Fun cafeteria vibes. They also have hot dogs ice cream cones cinnamon rolls and etc downstairs as you leave. My mom and I went to this location a few months ago becausewe need ideas to furnish our apartments. It was my first time at Ikea. I was amazed because it is huge! It is easy to get lost. I saw so many things that I wanted to buy. I only bought a couple of items. By the way, I definitely recommend the restaurant on the second floor. I had the salmon with some spinach thing. The reason why everyone loves IKEA is because they are so well seasoned and efficient in what they do. I was crazy to join the fray opening morning. I was very surprised that parking and queuing were so easy. As soon and the doors opened at 9am it was zip zip in the door fast. The workers cheered you on and the in the door experience was awesome with music and swag (if you got there early enough). For all the people there, it didn't seem that busy once you were inside. It is that massive in there. The "rooms" set up upstairs are all great and it's mostly easy to scan them with your app and pick up downstairs or write it down. The IKEA App is easy cause it will tell you where it is too! I had one thing which I wanted that wasn't labeled properly, but I eventually found it. Staff was great even through the craziness. My only speedbump was the dining. There were two lines to get food and they were both long and really sucked. Once you got to servers they were booking it, so I think a lot of it was the line monitors being inefficient. Especially as one side kept was much fuller than the other. I was deadly hungry and my sugar was low, I thought I was gonna pass out in line a couple times. That's what I get for skipping breakfast and getting here so early. Checkout was easy and there was plenty of staff everywhere for the big day. It's near my job so we've got a new lunch spot! My other qualm was the people doing wristbands outside. They threw the sticker backs on the ground! They were everywhere outside! That's horrible for a store as focused on being green. I hope a manager reads this. read more

I love it every time I come here. They always have a good deal. They have a new set of exhibits displayed. About their food it was okay, I mean it wasn't as oh my gosh, I love to go there kind of thing. The food wasn't as fantastic as the Cafe used to be inside Nordstrom before. But other than that, I can still recommend this place for great stuff for home. read more

I've always loved IKEA but had a ridiculous experience with customer service today that I just can't shake. I waited in a pretty short line for 10+ minutes to return something. Because of Covid the "pull a number" thing said they were trying to limit customer touch points, so I just waited in line. Suddenly when it was my turn, it was newly announced that we had to sign in (everyone touching the same computer!) - and I asked if they could just please return my 3 items, I was late for work... and also live 2 hours from any ikea, so really needed to return these items today because I can't just swing by IKEA's very often. The lady would NOT return my items until I signed in, and then would be behind the 5 other people who were now signing in. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! She was so rude and on some sort of a power trip. I could not believe what she was saying to me. I refused to do this, I was already late for work, and now I will drive around with a huge shelving unit in my car for a few MORE months I suppose. Of course, there is no one to call or complain to because in the end IKEA as a whole is not known for caring about or accomodating customers. Just selling cheap things. Alas... I just needed to vent. And can we talk about those carts that turn on all wheels!?!? They are SO frustrating and terribly hard on the back and knees. I do not understand the purpose of these! Finally ventured out to check out the Norfolk location. Saturdays I am sure present to be busier here, but it was manageable. I think I prefer this location versus Woodbridge. Parking seems to be better and wasn't a hassle. The location seems to be a little easier to maneuver. Located in close proximity to the Norfolk Premium Outlets! I found all of the items that I sought out for about $40 and that's a win in my book. We all had a good experience there's nothing negative for us to say based off of our experience. Also super glad that the lines weren't very long made the process easier. Next time we will have to try the food. I'd shop at this location again it's a better drive from Richmond honestly than trying to go to Woodbridge location. read more
