On 8/3/17, my wife and I visited the IKEA store in Elizabeth, NJ to purchase a furniture (sofa) and some other decorative items for our remodeled house. Although we were not able to find all the items needed, we still purchased a sofa and some few items. Needless to say, we also paid for the sofa and the other items to be delivered to our house in New Jersey, which is about 15 minutes away. On the other hand, the sofa and the other items were not delivered on the date arranged with the store even though my wife and I were excited and took a day off just to receive the items and arrange them at home accordingly. Regrettably, the delivery was not made, so we also called the delivery company to find out about and we were told that the items had not been received from IKEA. As such, we returned to the store the next day to discuss the issue with Ariel, Supervisor of the delivery (After Sale) department. Frankly, she was professional, apologetic, and offered to ensure that we receive the items the next scheduled date. She was so pleasant and wonderful that we did not doubt for a second that the second delivery date will be an issue. Guess what? No items were received on the second scheduled date. Once again, we contacted the delivery company several times to inquire about the merchandise and it appeared that they had still not received our merchandise from the store. As such, we tried to contact the Supervisor again to discuss it, but she was never available and/or responded to our messages. Therefore, we went to the store again to speak with her manager, since the situation was not getting any better. Realizing that my wife and I were upset, the manager apologized for the inconvenience caused and promised to send us a store credit of $300 via email or gift card by mail as compensation for the inconvenience caused. Of course, he also arranged another delivery date for us and promised to personally make sure that everything goes well since the situation was not getting any better. Finally, we were told that they do not have any of the sofa in stock and that is why they have been misleading us. In fact, I wrote to the CEO, Mr. Jesper Brodin on a number of occasions, but continuously received those robotic responses from Customer Service Specialist who does not seem to have any expertise and/or authority to resolve the issue. Subsequently, I have still been writing to the CEO, but it looks like customer service is not one of the company's strengths because the matter was referred to the same delivery (After Sale) Supervisor, who continuously failed us. Although I accepted the Supervisor's phone call to bring the matter to an accord, she once again failed me. Evidently, she offered to refund the cost of the sofa back to my credit card and send me the $300 in gift certificate meant for the compensation, she then called me two hours later to rescind the offer. According to her, the Store Manager told her to rescind it and i have an email from her indicating as such. Therefore, my wife and I are left with no other option but to pursue a civil suit against the company. What is shameful is that how can such a company be in business and i have never experienced a CEO of a company, who will allow a 3 year case to continue without a resolution. After all, i was trying to settle with their minimum compensation, but will now sue for the full amount of the loss wages for both of us, which is more than the compensation amount in question. Of course, the cost of the sofa is still not refunded. read more
