I'm proud to say that I've been in love with Ikea since elementary school. It felt like an event everytime my mom would drag us to shop there(Paramus location). Fast forward to the adult years. Now I drag my husband here when I want a bunch of knick knacks for home. Plus since living on my own, all of my beds have came from Ikea. So yes, I'm an Ikea-holic! Ikea is the perfect place to shop if you're on a budget yet looking for style. I even like building the furniture that includes a unique set of instructions. For the most part you can get in and out of IKEA with some really great deals. Some shelving furniture is priced right...some is slightly overpriced. That it, if you consider that it's pressboard and not real wood. A savvy shopper can land some really great bargains at IKEA on a daily basis, though. I love to shop and drink coffee here. I don't like the sloppiness of some of the customers who leave their cups of drinks and flavored water bottles (from another retailer) in the various living space vignettes. Is it a sign of the times when we as American people have lost respect for otber peoples things--we must do better. IKEA like the focus on saving resources, recycling, clean basic foods. Good value on items that i use every day LED light bulbs, tablet holder ($2.99), plates 79 cents a piece, house shoes $1.99, billy bookcase . They display many ideas and show you everything it takes to make it come to life. There's big furniture and small furniture. Space savers and wall units. To organize and itemize. Every part of the home space you want to decorate and make more functional, no matter how tiny or large, there is something for you. Prices are not half bad either. Just let your imaginations run wild. Once you venture off into the middle of all this, there is a cafeteria style eating area with choice of cold items (salads/wraps), sandwiches-desserts, kids meals and hot food. Just tel the nice servers what you want & they serve you right up. Members are offered food specials, free coffee and 1 dollar beverages. On your way out the door there is a snack bar with fresh cinnamon rolls, ice cream cones and other quick items. So just, Put on your walking shoes and explore. It's like a theme park for adults... with a stop for espresso and chocolate cake in the middle. You can go in order through the departments, first the mock rooms that are all decorated, followed by different dept. then the food area where you can have the Swedish meatballs or veggie balls for a really good price and get a coffee too... the fancy coffee machines can give you an espresso, latte, or cappuccino which I recommend with their chocolate cake. The perfect rejuvenation so you can continue your journey through kitchen wares followed by lights, linen, and frames. The designs are so aesthetically pleasing that I could live in here. I am moving apartments and needed to get a new couch. I went to IKEA and found one that I really liked. I purchased it and they told me that it would take approximately 20 minutes to get everything together. After waiting for over and hour and a half, I was told that they are out of one of the parts, but they had the couch in another color. I said that I'll take it and it was going to be delivered to me. The staff working in the store were very accommodating and empathetic. They are the only reason that Im not giving 1 star. The problem is that today, during my scheduled delivery, I only received 1 out of 3 pieces of my couch. I called the number and extension I was given in case of any problems, and gave them my case number and phone number. I was told that they would get back to me. After waiting for 2.5 hours, I called back to ask them for an update. The lady on the phone was rude and told me that she remembers me and said "I told you I'll get back to you." I asked her around when I could be expecting her phone call and she said by tomorrow. I'm going crazy. This store needs to get a better grip on their logistics. read more

I've been to stores in Minneapolis, the Bay Area (CA) and others, but this store was far and away the cleanest. Also, there weren't many people around so it felt like the store was open solely for us! That was awesome! I really like that this is an entirely one level store. All Ikeas I have been in prior have been two story and that isn't the easiest when dealing with a large buggy. During my visit store appeared clean and well stocked and I saw lots of items that were on sale for good prices. I was not expecting to buy a piece of furniture but could not resist a book shelf that was regularly 259$ and I got it for 129$. I didn't see as many employees on the floor as usual but I'm fine with that I rarely if ever need employee assistance. Their cafe seemed much larger than many and wish I had been hungry at the time because I do enjoy noshing at the IKEA cafe. read more

Don't Order Online! Shipping Delay, +30 min Phone Support Waits I placed an order on the website, I was told it would be delivered about a week later, but when it was time to receive the order I instead got an email saying the order had been delayed and that I had to call in to reschedule delivery. I called and was waiting to speak to a representative for over 30 minutes, hung up, called again and managed to get over to a human representative in a different department who told me that I couldn't reschedule it that day (Friday) but that I would have to call back again next week just to set a date for the delivery! Just terrible. I still haven't been able to even schedule a redelivery yet alone get the furniture that was supposed to have already been delivered last week. UPDATE: Just wasted another 30 minutes on the phone with them today to find out that I still cannot reschedule the delivery, but rather that they will call me within the next couple days to reschedule. Had our first IKEA experience and it was quite positive. First FREE kid care for 30 min! Second good cheap food. Get the meatballs and mashed potatoes yum! Third and probably most important the store. I could have walked around showroom for hours but didn't have time. We got a couch there and got all parts and brought up front for delivery. There were info people there guiding us for our first time. We got kivik couch the next day and are in process of putting together. I love that we can switch out cushions. The price was way better than the other 5 stores I went to looking at same thing. Cool concept for how to run store. Good food - hidden in a Furniture Store As most folks know - and have waited for - Memphis now has an Ikea Store! Yes, I knew they had good furnishing for the home. What I did not know was that they have great food as well. (Actually my wife went for the furniture shopping - me, I went for the food.) They have a small Cafe when you walk in the door to get a Cinammon Roll, coffee, etc. After you've made it half-way throught the store, BAM! - there is a Food Court. The Food Court is set up Cafeteria-style, and with a number of good offerings. We both decided to try the Pasta with Meatballs - and added 4 more meatballs. Well, some of you may have known about the Swedish Meatballs at Ikea, but I am now glad to have tried them for myself. They were quite good, moist, tender and tasty. Guys make sure you have your walking shoes on because it's a workout. This is my second time here at IKEA. I tried to check-in here when the store first opened but there was no way to yelp the place. I like the hot bar next to the entrance and exit, where they serve cinnamon buns, hot dogs, etc for under 1 buck. Since this is my second day i attempted to take the the short cuts through the warehouse but quickly got lost. I believe I went in circle throughout the process. The workers were extremely helpful and nice, there were workers at every section for assistance. Checkout seems to be available and quick for rush hours. The only problem I am concerned about is the Barbie doll size items they sell. Other than that I am happy it's here in Memphis. Thanks IKEA for the choice of choosing Memphis. read more

Love IKEA! I've been to IKEA in Germany, Italy, and more! Once you pass through the displays, let the shipping begin! So much to choose from and very reasonable prices! Love that they gave a play area for kids (free by the way) with ball pit. Lockers (also free) by the bathrooms in case you don't want to haul around your stuff. A cafe and a small cafeteria for those wanting to eat as well. Be prepared for a lot of walking. IKEA sets up their stores so that you have to walk through the whole store before you can checkout. Just gives you an excuse to eat a warm cinnamon roll since you will walk off the calories while you are there. read more

IKEA apparently invited half the city of Memphis to come visit today, ahead of the official grand opening on 12/14. Have you ever been to an IKEA store? If you have, you know what to expect: meatballs, awesome and affordable furniture, and walking off about 400 calories. The IKEA experience is indeed intact at the new Memphis location. I've only ever been to one other store (in Atlanta), but the only thing this new one is missing is a parking garage. If you HAVEN'T been to an IKEA before, be prepared. Just as there's no such thing as a cheap trip to Costco, there's no such thing as a quick trip to IKEA. The store is massive. As large as it appears from outside, you'll think you entered the TARDIS once you go in. You won't care, though, because I think it may be impossible not to find SOMETHING that makes you go, "I need that!" Don't forget the food court. The one here looked particularly expansive, and though I didn't get to partake of it, the IKEA food I've had in the past is quite good (and cheap). read more

A standard IKEA. I am not a huge fan of the concept of IKEA (picking up the actual product box from an entirely diff section of the store. I feel like it wastes time to walk through the store to find the item you want and then picking it up from somewhere else). But my hubby likes it. The food is good though. I've been to this IKEA 20 times since it opened and I will definitely keep going back. Their furniture is affordable and very versatile, which is what sets IKEA apart from everywhere else. I am able to customize every space in my home according to how I use it. Be warned this not the type of place for the hurried, impatient type. It's not somewhere you can run in to buy some curtains and run out if you aren't familiar with the layout. Do yourself a favor and go there one day without buying anything and familiarize yourself with the set up. The store is designed in such a way for you to explore and gain inspiration, but there are plenty of signs that direct you to shortcuts to cut through to the different sections. I highly recommend looking at their products online first if you are looking for something specific and writing down the article number. If you create an IKEA online account and select the Memphis store it will even tell you what department your item can be found in. That alone saved me a lot of time once I started using shortcuts. Their room planner tool online is also very helpful when figuring out how to design different areas. For parents on a budget it's worth to note that all kids eat free at IKEA on Tuesdays and if your child between 4-10 & potty trained they can be dropped off at the free in-store daycare for an hour while you shop. Everything about IKEA is thoughtfully done. If you are a planner like me, enjoy custom spaces, and practical furniture this is the place for you. Just some effort and planning on the front end will save you a ton of money. If you are the type of person that prefers to have everything planned, designed, assembled and delivered then you are better off just paying more at the boring ol' furniture stores :) read more

Disclaimer: my order was placed online, and not in the store. I recently swapped out my desk at home for a new desk. My old desk had drawers, but the new one is more "modern" does not. So, after some recommendations online and researching other options, I decided to purchase two Alex drawer units from IKEA on 11/03. This is my first ever IKEA purchase, and it has left a bad taste in my mouth. As somebody who buys a large portion of my goods online from several other retailers, I felt the online experience left a lot to be desired. Mostly, I was astounded at the cost to have the furniture delivered. Delivery for the two units cost nearly as much as one of the units. Still, the nearest store is 3 hours away, and similar alternative products that I could get at nearby stores had shallower drawers, and smaller dimensions that made me suck it up and pay the fee. The delivery of the two units arrived on Friday the 11/08. Slower than Amazon prime, but I've dealt with longer delivery windows. I opened the first box to assemble it, and when all was said and done, I wasn't overly impressed, but it was what I expected: a reasonably cheap piece of ready-to-assemble furniture, not much better than an equivalent product from another store. The second box had a visible tear on the side a few inches long that I could tell went through the box. I had concerns, but hoped it would be alright. As I suspected, the outside of one of the side panels was damaged with a gouge equal in length to the one of the box. I measured it at about 3 inches long. I contacted IKEA by phone and waited approximately 25 minutes for a customer service representative to come online. I explained that I had received damage merchandise, and he assured me that they would take care of it. He scheduled a new order and pickup of the damaged unit. Things happen, so I tried to be patient and wait for the new unit to be delivered. The second unit was delivered on 11/19 and they took the damaged unit, still unassembled, in its original box with them. I promptly took the box to my office and began assembling it. I nearly finish the assembly, and while screwing in the cam screws into the top panel, the wood starts to disintegrate two turns of the screwdriver. The hole is so damaged that the cam screw would no longer stay in place. There are three drilled holes on each side of the top panel, so I thought perhaps that I could make it work with just the other two screws. The others do the same thing. I realize later that the holes are not drilled to the same depth as the other side (which should be identical). So, I called IKEA again. This time the wait was much more reasonable, only about 5 minutes or so. Since the unit is mostly assembled, I asked for them to send only the part, given that two units had problems, I did not want to give up the parts that were not damaged. They checked the size, and said they could ship me the part. They said it could be 5-7 days, but I would have the part. I was impressed on 11/21, because after only two days, the part had already arrived. I removed the packaging it was shipped in (this time FedEx). It was bubble wrapped inside. I pull it out and one of the corners is damaged. Closer evaluation of the part realized its not the correct part. I thought they sent the bottom panel, but after reviewing the manual, realized its not even a part for the correct item. I called again, and now have a new case number, they have promised to expedite the request, and hopefully will have the correct part soon. For my first IKEA experience, this has not left a positive impression. Damaged merchandise happens frequently in shipping, and I can accept that. However, taking four attempts to get the correct part, undamaged, for merchandise that was purchased new is not reassuring. Based on this experience, I do not plan on making another IKEA purchase. This will be the last opportunity for IKEA to make things right before I cancel the entire order and ask for a full refund. UPDATE: I gave an additional star back The new replacement part has arrived and this time, is the correct part. I have installed the top, and now have the second Alex drawer unit assembled and ready to store. It was a less than stellar experience, but I now have all the items I ordered in a usable fashion. I love shopping here for Christmas, birthdays, and pretty much any party I go to. Great prices! My sister even won a free couch on there opening day! She had a blast with her friends staying out all night for a couch!lol They even gave the "campers" free coffee and hot cocoa all night bc it was freezing that night! Love Ikea but for some reason some of the staff seen as clueless as I am. I bought a sleeper sofa and finally have a reason to use it. For that I needed a mattress pad. I went to the store and found the sofa I had purchased in November from them and gave me the article number for the matress pad. I get it home and it is four sizes too big and not in the shape of the sofa. I am very disappointed and would have scored lower but the amazing ice and water saved them. read more

I love this place. There is so much to look at, its a day's entertainment. I've never not come hete and found a great deal on something. This trip I got a couple of stools, some cool kids books and games, some dark chocolate bars and Swedish cookies, and some clearanced out beach towels for $4 a piece. Always a good tme. read more

Went to IKEA over the last weekend to price mattresses before I pulled the trigger on a new mattress for the guest room. I was a bit leery of purchasing a mattress at IKEA but I wanted to be thorough in my research. I love IKEA for their econominal and stylish products but heirloom furniture it ain't. Here's why I'll eat my hat before I ever scoff at IKEA's quality again. 1 year unconditional return policy. You decide your mattress sucks 10 months after you bought it? No problem, return it. With more than 1-2 choices per price point you have options, you don't have to settle. And the most epic reason why I will sing the praises of these mattresses - while laying on a mattress (Hasvag, queen @ $229.00) I was looking up to the specs above me to my right. I was talking with my Charming Companion, who was on the bed to my left, for 3 minutes before I saw him on another mattress in my site line. Here's the punchline : I didn't feel him get up! I will never buy from Ikea again! They failed to deliver our stuff when they said they would. When we called about it they couldn't find where our stuff was. I called to cancel it and it took 5 days to get through to someone and even then they never even canceled the order after having to call the second time because I never received a confirmation of it being canceled!
