IKEA is one of those stores I can't quite wrap my head around. I love so much of the furniture with its clean lines and funky colours, yet at the same time all of the kitsche messes with my brain. I enjoy IKEA, I like walking around, but I don't like the idea of everyone and their dog having the exact same furniture as me. Maybe that makes me odd, but it really is how i feel. One thing I can say though is they have some excellent storage solutions for those of us that have limited space. This is advantageous for apartment dwellers as many of their solutions help with a variety of space-related troubles. I will continue to shop at and walk through IKEA for kicks, but my mixed feelings will continue well into the future. read more

Come for the bafflingly cheap meatballs/breakfasts. Go home with a ton of nice European looking furniture! (After spending five years in the middle of Saskatchewan it was very nice to find decent furniture that didn't cost a packet!) I returned a bunch of items I bought for our kitchen reno and had them put the amount on a gift card as I was literally going to be exchanging them right away for alternate selections. (The total amount on the card was just over $400). We went upstairs and decided to have a bite to eat in the restaurant before going and ordering the different cupboard doors, trim, etc. For some reason I had the gift card in my hand and put it on the tray while we ate. We went to the kitchen area and were shopping around when I suddenly realized that I had left the gift card on the tray! We ran back and the tray had been cleared and the card was gone, we even looked through the garbage. I was panicking since there was such a significant amount of money on it. I spoke to Sandra who was a supervisor in the front cash area and she was very calm and said she would see what she could do for me. She went to the back room and went through their transaction history until she found the issuing of my gift card. She then cancelled the original card and issued me a new one, all while being incredibly sweet and reassuring. IKEA on a Saturday is a busy/crazy place and the fact that she took the time to help me and reinstated my lost gift card was simply amazing customer service! Oh IKEA IKEA! Is it bad that we come here for the food more than for furniture shopping? I've bought furniture at IKEA for many years and find that the quality of the furniture is getting worse.. If you are planning to move a lot and just need simple furnitures that will last a year or so, IKEA is good for that. One thing I found out recently, IKEA replaces parts FOR FREE! We have an old bed frame that was missing a few parts and was delightfully surprised when we were told "yes, we have the parts you need" and how much do they cost "they're free"! Bonus! The food! Don't expect gourmet cuisine but it's a great place to grab a quick healthy meal (compared to many fast food chains). Salmon for $5.99 on Tuesdays, I mean, where else can you get that?! If you have a Family IKEA card, you even get coffee/tea for free. Yay! read more

Can I say first though their quality is what it is, on average it's not the worse not the best. With that said we bring our kids here often for dinners because on a budget with 5 kids they are super big family/kid friendly. They offer a free jar of baby food with an adult meal, a microwave and bottle warmer station, kids meals now come with yogurt, and apple slices. As for the furniture it was what it is, everyone should pretty much know ikea furniture by now. It's not high quality, our couch from here is our downstairs family room one because the fabric is horrible. You can't wash it with out leaving water marks. I'm not getting into that, basically I'll buy tables, stand alone chairs, little odds and ends, shelves etc from here just never again a couch and never an adult bed. Though my sons toddler beds been pretty good, and two of the other kids have the bunk beds but they sit high in there rooms so they hit their heads it seems. But they work overall. Summary, cheap eats, kids friendly and interesting place to walk around when bored and decent for odds and ends. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service... employees were not nice when asking them a question and completely condescending. I know customer service positions are draining but please, treat me like a human being. Really disappointed in the employees character and what this corporation has become. Asked for spare parts for a bed and they gave me the wrong parts after explicitly showing them exactly what I needed.... really on it. read more

Furniture is great...good for the price. Find the displays educational and entertaining. The hot food is generally overcooked and abysmal and the kitchen staff could CARE LESS how they fling it on the plate! Its a very sad state of affairs. Sandwiches, salads and treats are really good tho. LOVE the items in the food shop but they had better things in the past. I have purchased and installed several kitchens from IKEA. It was a bit tedious and difficult but not necessarily because of service but because of the way you need to order the kitchens. Go to HomeDepot for kitchens...its alot easier and pretty much the same quality. read more

Horrible service and product experience. I am only putting up public reviews after being totally ignored by IKEA customer service. We bought a mattress and a mattress protector for my son. The mattress protector stated that it was waterproof, so I figured it would stand up to an occasional accident or two. The product was an epic fail (gokart). It is not remotely waterproof, and the mattress is not stained and destroyed. I followed all of the product instructions for care and cleaning. What utter garbage. When I asked IKEA to stop labeling this product incorrectly, I was ignored. Shop elsewhere guys this product and their lack of response deserves an F rating. read more

Never order online. It took 4 weeks for the first delivery date. When it was finally scheduled they expected me to be at home to receive it for a 12h period on a weekday. I work too far away and when they called to say they were on the way I missed the delivery. Then it took 5h and 45 min on the phone to re-schedule a delivery and pay for it. read more

We all thought we loved them, sadly only if you buy a few inexpensive items. There is absolutely no customer service if you have purchased big ticket items or worse, items for delivery. Customer service lies to get you off the phone and when calling back, 'if you don't like it, cancel' after they did not deliver purchase as promised and promised again by their 'customer service', I wonder what their definition is? Certainly not what most Canadians would define customer service. Don't buy anything that is more valuable than something you can carry in your hand. The bigger items are a nightmare. Great furniture but what's happened to the service? I asked one clerk for help and he walked off without acknowledging that I'd even spoken. I followed and it turned out he was heading to a terminal to help me find my order...but he didn't tell me that until he handed me a paper and said, "take this to the front." At the from there was one cashier open. One. Already a line 20-deep. And the self serve...already lined up as well (something seriously wrong when you have to line up to serve yourself). I ordered my item with the help of the clerk at the self-help...and left unsure of where to go. I went to the dock, got my vehicle ready, and came back to the self-help clerk and asked her where I should pick up my item. She blamed me for leaving too fast for her to speak to me about where I should pickup the item (she's stood beside me, silently, while I ordered the item...but apparently hadn't yet decided it was an opportune time to tel me where the item might actually be. I had bought a large item so I went to the pickup counter for it. I had a guy not even break his chit-chat with his coworker (local gossip) to reach out and gesture to me to hand him my paper. He then, in mid-sentence to his coworker, advised me he'd call out my order when it was ready. Then he and the girl vanished into a back room...no hint to me as to how long this might take. I finally got my item and manhandled it to the dock myself...and then into my truck...while another clerk stood 10' away and watched. I had more help from passers by than by this ikea's staff this morning. I'm disappointed. read more

Ikea is definitely a store I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with. I love them because they have a ton of great items for decorating your home that won't cost you an arm and a leg! I hate them because I rarely ever leave with just what I came for; when I say they have a ton of great items at reasonable prices I mean it, so much that anytime I visit, I leave with way more than I came for and a much lighter wallet lol... Although there really isn't too much to truly hate about the store, there are some things to look out for, read on! First of all, the service is mediocre at best and usually well below that. It's hard to find well qualified employees anywhere in the store and even in their bigger ticket item areas where you'd want them the professionalism barely improves. Secondly, even though a lot of their items are affordable and look great they're not built to last. The quality is definitely in a lower tier for most items that are saving you money which often translates to the items feeling cheap, showing wear early and even breaking easy. They do have some items that are built solid though (usually priced a bit higher), so I recommend having a close look when you're on the floor so you know exactly what to expect. If you take great care of what you own and you don't have too many careless visitors even the cheap stuff can stand the test of time! Third, the assembly... I think most of us know that Ikea has a bit of a poor reputation when it comes to instructions and assembly. Honestly, the instructions aren't too bad despite being from Sweden lol ;)... but most items do take a fair bit of self-assembly and it's not the easy kind that can be done with true hand and power tools, nope it's the kind you do with those annoying allen keys/wrenches. Very time consuming and tedious... Fourth, be careful to read what's included in each box, often you'll see a complete item on the floor and not realize it's broken down into 2-4 pieces you have to buy separate, so you may easily end up paying more than the cheap price you first see. Finally the store is a busy one! Try and avoid weekends if you can unless you plan on going near opening or closing. If you can make it to Deerfoot Meadows where it's located during a weekday that's probably your best bet! Going back to my second point on quality, I've noticed some categories are better than others. Where Ikea shines is the small stuff: the accessories for each room, the accent pieces, the storage items, the textiles, the lighting and kitchen items. If you're looking for these kinds of items I highly recommend Ikea. The medium sized stuff is good as well: closets, TV/media furniture, living room storage, coffee and side tables, dining chairs and bedroom furniture are all worth a look. Once you start going bigger than this it gets questionable for me though; sofas, armchairs and sectionals are a no for me here, as are mattresses. They do have some pretty good stuff for bigger renovations of sinks, faucets, kitchen cabinets, fronts, countertops and islands. Just make sure you do your due diligence if you're exploring these options as the assembly typically works a bit different than our usual standards. I would also stick to the major North American brands for your major appliances and avoid the Ikea offerings. Mainly because if you ever need to use warranty, get it serviced or order parts you're going to have a much harder time with these foreign brands. Ikea definitely has something to offer for everyone, I'd recommend checking it out for yourself if you haven't. First time through its fun to follow the guided path that takes you through department by department which makes it easier to visualize a complete room. Then on subsequent trips you can skip to right where you need to go or redo do the department arranged pathway for some new inspiration. Lots of new seasonal items always come in, so it's worth checking back every few months. Remember to shop smart not cheap, you get what you pay for! read more

A fun place to shop, and to find some cheap stylish furniture and decorations there. The only problem is, that if you want something original you will have to go somewhere else. If you find a picture that you really like, likely your friends liked it too and it will be up in their house. But overall I like the Swedish feel and emphasis on design. read more

Ikea is World - renowned when it comes to their self assembly furniture at discounted prices but I think their unbeatable food prices are worth a mention as well. The products here are excellent for first time condo buyers or those moving out for the first time. Perhaps not the best fit to furnish a full home, the quality has been coming up year after year. The problem is that the price has also been coming up to the point where you could just go get real wood furniture for a similar price and you won't have to assemble it yourself. On a positive note, I've never had an issue putting a piece of IKEA furniture together. There are ALWAYS enough parts and the components are meticulously manufactured for even joints and good wear and tear resilience. read more

Went for breakfast. After being in line for 16 min they informed us they had been out of bacon for 20 min. They also ran out of hash browns... lunch line had just opened. They really could have let people know when they run out rather then wait in line, then move over to the lunch line just to wait again.... read more

A simple order turned into a comedy of errors. They could not get the story straight despite that is was all simple and straight forward. I would not order from them again due to the drama, stress, many hours on hold and multiple phone calls involved all just to get a simple order taken care of. There is the Ikea lovers. And the Ikea haters. I'm in the lovers category. I love Ikea. I can shop around for HOURS and no one bothers me. Everything is affordable and the staff is helpful. I bought a TV stand with them. 250$ + tax. 1 week later, it is the living room event. 15% off all TV benches... Well, I went back with my receipt and ask for a price adjustment. No question asked, she gave me the difference. I mean, she could have made a stink about it, having me go buy one and come back with the other receipt to get a refund. The only thing is that the refund/exchange department is REALLY busy on weekends. Like, expect to wait between 20 to 30 minutes. But weekdays are really slow. I also love Wacky Wednesday. I mean, they have better Wacky Wednesday sales in Edmonton, but whatever. I love having stuff at 80% off :) That just makes me happy! :) read more

I've been very disappointed in ikea's customer service the last few times I've went. The first time, I was making a very large furniture order purchase and was looking for the lack small rectangular coffee table. After asking two employees, they referred me to one in the aisle the lack was supposedly in. When I asked him for this coffee table and quoted the colour and price, he replied to me "oh yeah, those are discontinued, we haven't had those for ages." Without moving from his spot. I walked a little farther up the aisle on a whim, and they were sitting there not ten feet from where we were standing. I'm not sure if he did not know what he was talking about or just uninterested in helping me. The second time I went, on a morning, I was looking specifically for a king size blavinda duvet cover. The shelves were out of king size so I asked an associate. She told me they had just sold the last one and didn't know when more would come in and to try the next day. So I came back the next day and another associate told me that they had had some up until the previous evening (after I had been there) and that the next shipment wasn't coming for at least 9 weeks. I was quite upset about this and found one elsewhere for the interim. I went in today (about two weeks later) and there were plenty of king size blavinda duvet covers in stock. Not one associate that I've spoken to in the last month has told me the truth, known what they were saying, or seemed at all interested in helping me. Which is distressing since I just furnished my whole house with IKEA. Also, the process of making returns is ridiculous. There's no reason I should need to allot at least two hours for returning a few items unopened with the receipt. read more

To start off with I'd like to mention that this review is in regard to the online ikea.com process. Basically I have nothing good to say about any step in the process with ordering online. First issue is the fact that despite ordering from their Canadian website and the presence of an Ikea in the same city, they shipped our order out of California. Second issue was that the order delivery date was estimated as 2 weeks and actually took 4. Third, the 3rd party delivery company they used (at least I would assume it was 3rd party as the truck was completely unmarked and beat up) was completely unprofessional. The delivery guys spent more time oohing and ahhing over our home theater set up then worrying about getting stuff through the door in minus 10 weather. Fourth, the delivered items were missing 2 boxes, and a 3rd was quite obviously damaged to an extent that left the item unusable. The delivery driver wanted me to sign for delivery with no notes or comments about either the damaged or missing goods. His explanation was "we got it like that, just call them and they'll ship you a replacement for the damaged item and get you the missing boxes". Finally the CSR was absolutely no help when we did call. We no longer want the missing packages as we went to the local Ikea to pick them up so we could use our other items, but they still "have to" ship the unwanted items and we will then need to make another trip to our local Ikea to return them. We are also expected to wait an additional month for the damaged item to be shipped, while we are expected to keep a 6 foot long box in our home until they deliver the new one. We asked about having the exhorbarant shipping fee refunded and were told "we will look into it" and have yet to hear anything back. All in all a terrible experience, will never ever use their online service again, which means likely won't be using Ikea again as I cannot fit any of the medium to large boxes in my car (the whole reason I ordered online in the first place) . read more

Also neglected to ask if I wanted legs for my sofa when I ordered in store so I now have a sofa with no legs, which was apparently my fault for not ordering them separately. I hate this store. Firstly it is set up like a mini-golf so you have to zig-zag your way through the entire store like a rat in a maze. Parents are encouraged to let their children run wild, and with no hand signals - It is worse than rush hour on the Deerfoot with one lane down and zombies everywhere. I'm not sure why but everyone is always sauntering. Today I bought a table top and some stools. They were out of the legs for the table. The clerk made me wait 10 minutes to print out a "Shopping List". "Take it to the cashier at the front and pay for it", he says, then instructs me to pick it up on the right after I pay. I waited 15 minutes at the woefully understaffed check-out. The cashiers there seem to have a flair for anything but ringing up sales. Need a friend? They are always glad to oblige. Never mind the 2 dozen very annoyed paying customers behind you seeing red - just chat up a storm with the cashiers any time you want! You did earn at least that privilege after all, for your troubles. Anyway I finally get to the cashier and after ringing in my stuff I hand her the paper. She says "Oh, I can't take this you need a pick slip or something". Go to customer service in the warehouse and they will put a bar code on it, and then come back to the back of the line. Stewed, I reassemble all my stuff and maneuver backwards with my cart through double line-up I find myself entwined in. The lone attendant in the warehouse service desk has a long line up which of course is not moving. He was on the phone and computer and ignoring everyone else. This being the case I didn't want to waste another half hour waiting. I decided not to buy the table after all. (They only had one piece of the two anyway and I'll need to come back next Tuesday when the frames come in. This is getting no-where. F-it. Back at the cashier. A full 20 minutes or more longer I finally get through to a self serve where the bouncer tells me I can't have the bag. It's for in-store. If I had waited and got the requisite the bar-code I'd have to stand in another line to pick-up the paid-for item from another clerk probably though some pick-a-ticket system. (If you are counting that is 4 check-points) All-in-all it took me a little over an hour to get out of the store with several hundreds of dollars worth of other furniture I bought. This is nothing new at IKEA - It is actually quite normal and this store has always been understaffed. I think I will return the chairs. I don't have a good feeling about them and don't feel good about my purchase. read more

Only one Ikea store in Calgary Canada. Visited the store with the young grandchildren and found the family restroom upstairs by the restaurant sorely lacking. There were no hand towels in the dispenser . Grandpa in the men's washroom noted that his area had no hand soap. The store was not busy so it would be interesting to know how staff are alotted for hygiene matters. read more

I love Ikea! Over the years, I've bought all kinds of things there, from furniture to fridge magnets. I was never disappointed with their products. I find they have very good prices which makes it easy on the budget and looks good too. I've even used their pick up and delivery service, which I was very pleased with. My items were delivered in 2 business days from the date of purchase and the guys were dressed appropriately in clean white overalls and well groomed. They were very professional in attitude, taking care to remove shoes and making sure nothing was damaged. I will certainly use this service again. read more

Really I'm not sure what happened to this place. They changed their meatballs and are really gross now. Fresh cut potatoes are now replaced with gross mashed potatoes. Even the fries aren't great! Like their furniture but I won't be eating there again. read more

I really like Ikea and was excited to order my kitchen there. Thought the in house kitchen planners would be knowledgeable and helpful but they weren't. The initial person who signed you up to use a computer was very unfriendly and snappy. This continued when I went back to say i was ready to order my kitchen. Then the planner came over and didn't really offer any useful suggestions and ended up missing several items on my order and had some items totally wrong. When this was pointed out they were defensive and blamed me. The guys in the furniture pick up were also not helpful and just wanted your items out of the way, wanting you to sign that you had received all items (180) without giving you time to check them. Also they loaded up three carts then you have no assistance meaning you had to leave carts unattended unless there was three of you while you took a cart to your vehicle. Had to go back the next day after I discovered they had completely missed adding legs to my cabinet and shelves for one of the upper ones. Not impressed. read more

What a joke this place is. I bought a bed, drove home three hours, only to find there are required components for this bed that are sold separately! The bed is useless without them. I call customer service to be told that "bed slats" are a separate item. For 70 dollars we will ship them to you" WTF IKEA ???? So I now a kid with a bedroom torn apart to accomodate the new bed. The new bed 90% built but useless without parts that are sold sepratley. I will never darken your doorway again! read more
