This was such a beautiful, quiet, serene, spacious camping trip. Zero issues, our site was huge and we brought a 29 foot airstream and it fit in the perfectly with lots of room. We didn't hear anyone even though the grounds were mostly full. Everyone was happy. We can't wait to go back. Also the walk to the lake is super short and pretty. You can toss a hook in the water in the morning too! read more

My family enjoyed the cabins on a weekend in February. They are huge (unnecessary so), and contain two rooms - a bedroom with a queen/bunk bed combo and a larger room with a four person table and a futon. The park itself is in a beautiful wooded setting and the lake is huge. We enjoyed the trial around the lake. Hopefully, we'll be back during the summer to enjoy some swimming. read more

We love camping here! It seems like every spot has some privacy and space! There are lots of water activity options with two rivers merging into a huge lake. The trail around the lake is about a mile through many varieties of evergreen trees and forest foliage. Electric and water hookups on the RV sites is available. If you don't have camping equipment, the park has about 8-10 cabins with bunks, a table and couch and an outdoor fire pit and picnic table. read more

We've stayed here a few times and we've loved it each time. The sites have great privacy and they provide plenty of room for your camp site to be comfortable. This campground is very close to water and there are plenty of trails to hike. Getting in and out is easy, even with bigger rigs. Only about a 20 mins drive into Mossyrock. The only reason I gave 4 stars - instead of 5 - is that the sewers are not functioning at the camp sites. I am not sure when they will be repaired but the sewer cover at the campsite we were at was welded shut. They do have an on-site dump station. We will come back once the sewers are working again. read more

We like to camp and this state park was recommended. Large sites and great space between the sites. Waking path around the edge had a few spots to get to the water. If you want walk in however you needed to drive over to the swimming area. Bathrooms were small and for the most part clean but we had a few times where you wondered if the toilet paper was going to last until next cleaning. We were able to get wood from the host often enough but many times we had gone by looking and had to just go back up there a few times until we could get it. The front office staff lacked smiles. However, the ice cream for sale was only $1, so we dealt with them to get the good stuff. There were some questionable people camping however and the lack of rangers or host coming by to check on people was something we wished was happening. One family had tiki lights on ALL NIGHT LONG with dogs tied to the poles that were leaning. I was seriously concerned about waking up to fire in the park. They also left their fire unattended every time we walked by. When they left we put the fire out they had left going behind. A ranger or host coming by might have been able to speak to them or correct the behavior but they didn't come by at all. i think this location would be excellent for people with a boat wanting the boat launch. I enjoyed my visit but wished it was easier to walk into the lake from the camp sites. Not climb down ledges. Which I couldn't do. Also, it was cold here and foggy in the mornings. When we left the area for a day trip it was sunny not 10 min down the road but the park would be colder and foggier than the outlying areas. read more

We stayed in one of the cabins for a las minute overnighter. It was cabin #4. They have five cabins, only cabin pet friendly is cabin #5. Cabins #1-3 are the ones with a view of the lake with cabin #1 being the best located cabin. The cabins have cadet heaters, lots of light, and outlets. Each cabin has a water faucet outside. There is a central "out house". The futon in our cabin had a pleather cover. So i would suggest bringing a full sized fitted sheet to put over it for better comfort. The park is pretty big, and has a lot of trees. There is a short well marked trail that runs along the outer edge of the park next to the water. It starts just up the road from the entrance to the campground, and ends at the grassy area on the lake next to cabin #1. The main drawback is the swimming area and boat launch are not located in the campground, but across the main road. read more

Lovely park. Most of the sites are fairly private and well shaded. Many sites near the water. Luckily we did not experience a significant issue with mosquitoes. The campground revenue depends on folks buying wood from the campground host so don't worry about them running out of fire wood. Friendly rangers. Grocery store is 15 min drive to Mossyrock. Excellent swimming area with rocky beach and paddle boats for rent. We saw plenty of wildlife including deer, ducks, and owls. Definitely one of the best state parks. read more

One of my favorite campgrounds. Come out here every year memorial day weekend. Huge campsites with lots of privacy. Good tree cover for rain too! Make sure to make your reservations WELL AHEAD, the park sells out fast. Great trails to take the dogs and or go for little hikes. Great family environment and reasonable prices. Also the showers say they take tokens. We noticed they operate without them. Might be a faulty system, but hey! Free showers :). read more

It's a nice family location, maintained bathrooms, nice jungle gym area and picnic tables. There is a ton of fecal matter from geese and dogs. There's also a cute area for campers. I was very disappointed in the staff. There was a veterans discount but nothing for active duty? Quite backwards if as me. read more

This is a great park. I stayed one night in a camp site and had a great time. I made a fire and when it was dark, everyone respected the quiet time hours, which I really appreciated. There are a ton of really nice trails all over the park. There is water access so walking down to the water was really beautiful. Not too buggy either. Highly recommend! read more

Spent only a little time here, just checked it out visiting my parents who live on the lake. No one else was there, we were there in the evening. Looks like it gets lots of use. Three separate abandoned flip flops on the swim area beach, some bottles and cans tossed on the sides of the walking trail. I would come here again when I had more time to spend here. read more

Be aware that there are wild/feral cats that will urine mark your stuff if you leave anything outside your cabin. Happened to me twice. Too bad as this was one of my favorite state parks in Washington. Otherwise a very nice park but I won't camp there again. read more

Camped here a few weeks ago sight unseen, just because I was intrigued by the name--the online site selector worked well. There was a bit of a wait to register but I blame that on State understaffing. The ranger was certainly helpful. Campsites were well-maintained but restrooms were somewhat distant. The main attraction here seems to be the nearby lake where all of the campers around us took their motorized boats. We enjoyed the views of the lake from the shoreline trail at sunset, but spent most of our time on birding hikes nearby. Across the lake from the campground is a very family-friendly beach complete with picnic tables and restrooms. read more

Staff of Volunteers and Park Aides are amazing at keeping this Park looking fantastic! Park Rangers also assist with meatier issues that sometimes arrive! Love this park!!! The views of the lake are sweet, and both primitive and full hookup sites are spacious.

We visited on a weekend in July and although the park was full, it still felt very spacious and private in our loop. Few sites are actually on the lake shore, but many have a peekaboo view like ours ( Site # 80 ) did. Although we were up the hillside from the lake we were able to pack the kayaks to the shore in front of our site and launch. Water activities are the main attraction at this park. There are 1.5 miles of hiking trails including a nice trail that follows the lake shore. The park has restrooms and showers, a dump station, day use area with picnic tables and horseshoe pits. For us kayaking was the highlight. We paddled north along the shoreline, past the day use area, under the bridge and all the way until we couldn't go any further. Along the way we encountered a shallow area where boats park and party during the day, including a float-able beer-pong table! Past that area the waterway starts to narrow and eventually you end up between two towering rock walls on either side. Along the way we also found a small creek that we explored on foot and it lead to a waterfall. It was a wonderful kayak adventure. We will definitely visit this campground again! read more

We love this campground and have been back several times. Highly recommend except: DO NOT STAY AT SITE 36 UNLESS YOU LIKE THE SMELL OF SEWAGE. There is a beautiful field adjacent to site that is a drainage pit underneath. Terrible smelling water bubbling up from clean outs, yay. When ranger told he said, "we'll get to it later. It's just water" that was three hours ago. Now rangers are gone for the night and our vacation is spoiled. read more

We recently had the pleasure of spending some time "camping" here. We stayed in one of the cabins (#5, the only pet friendly one) because I wanted to celebrate my dog's 10th birthday with something he would enjoy - an outdoor adventure! The state park is fairly easy to find and has lots and lots of campsites and grounds. It sits on a freshwater lake (Lake Mayfield), which my dog loved swimming in. The cabin was nicely done, it has a small front room with a futon couch and a dining table and chairs, and then a back room with a double bed and a bunk bed above it. Running water is located right outside the cabin and there is always a bathroom/outhouse within a short walking distance. There are coin operated showers here as well, in the larger bathrooms. All cabins have electricity and heat. All the campsites have a fire pit with a flipable grill thing, so you can just have the open fire pit or use the grill to cook meat. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because there was supposed to be a camp host on duty who sells firewood. I don't know why, but the camp host was not there or on duty during our stay. We had to go in to town to buy wood. They have several locations where they have firewood chopped and ready to go, but it's locked and only the camp host has the key to help you. When we wanted wood, we saw the camp host was "not on duty" and had no hours posted about when they expected to return. We waited for 6 hours hoping the would and we could buy wood at the park, but they never did and we were starving so we gave up and went in to town to get some. When we left the next day, the host still had not returned. Aside from that, we had a very pleasant time at the park and hope to return again soon! read more

This was an amazing park. It's far away from the city and the trees are beautiful. It has a few trails and a beautiful water view.

We loved camping here! My hubby and I live in Seattle and usually backpack to our camping destinations. However, our bodies and joints needed a break from extreme hiking so we ventured here for a car camping trip, and we are so glad we did. There are 3 main sections (RV only, RV + tent and tent only), and we stayed in the tent only loop. Plenty of space in each camping spot, a fire pit and enough privacy to really enjoy the little forest you're nestled in. Our spot was really close to the water and a little secluded trail that went behind most of the campsites and along the water and it made watching the sunset really easy and beautiful. The onsite bathrooms were easily accessible and really clean. Definitely coming back here for the next R&R trip from backpacking! read more

Annual camping trips here even though we live only five miles or so from the park (Mossyrock)! Ha Very clean and well kept, beautiful surroundings, nice park and green grass embankment with water access so if you bring your water toys (boats, waverunners, etc.) you can tie up near the shore and easily get to and from throughout your stay. Boat launch is less than 1 mi away from campground. There is a kids climbing and playground stuff within walking distance from campsites at the State Park across the street. Paved roads and paths throughout for bike riding. We always have a great time! Friends from out of town join us by renting the primitive (but new and well kept) cabins - all within walking distance to campsites and water. There are roughly 6 cabins from which to choose. The only suggestion or word or warning we have - book early!! Spots open and are available for booking online roughly 6 mos in advance and we always book our annual summer spot in roughly Oct/Nov. read more

This State Park is a real gem, you can easily reach it in 2 hours from Seattle which makes it a perfect weekend getaway. The A Loop is the older of the 3 loops and has the most private/spacious spots (although that isn't to say the other loops were by any means "bad.") We stayed in A Loop and really enjoyed the several, wooded trails that crisscrossed the inside of the loop. All of them emptied in to the restrooms area but were fun enough to keep the kids playing hide and go seek for hours. The loops are all heavily wooded and while we weren't bombarded by mosquitos this time of year, I am guessing they could get pretty ferocious come August. Another great thing about this campground was the "family friendly" vibe it had. Lots of kids and dogs and happy parents/grandparents. Most all of the "exterior sites (12-34 from what we could tell) were basically waterfront and you could be on the lake in just seconds. This is a SUPER cool thing but be warned, a lake trail runs all throughout the park and was heavily used over the weekend we stayed. Not a big deal and for the most part, privacy was still to be had but definitely something to consider if you like to let your well trained dog off leash in your campsite. (Even the nicest pup could be startled by an unexpected hiker.) Another note on the dogs- we've gotten slightly lazy about bringing our own poop bags to State Parks because most of the parks are so good about stocking them nowadays. Neither the day use area or Loop A had any. Lucky for us, we found some in the Loop C just as our last Safeway bag was used up. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5? The Day-Use Area. This part of the park is actually across the street from the campground. Not a big deal and made for a fun bike ride BUT goose poop. Lots and lots of Goose poop. The swimming area looked so inviting and the lake water was crystal clear but there was no way to get to it without trudging through mountains of goose poop. There was also a beautiful picnic area, horse shoe pits and nice playground but all were covered in goose poop. It was probably the most goose poop I've ever seen and made the area completely un-usable. The second reason for the 4 out of 5 stars is definitely more personal preference but so you know, there's TONS of boaters on this lake. It can for sure get pretty loud. We weren't bothered by this but again, you might want to avoid the exterior parts of the loop if you are noise sensitive. The cabins looked really nice and were right on the beach above a pretty grassy area but, I noticed the previous reviewer mentioned they brought their dog. While we were there we saw several signs saying "No dogs in the Cabin Loop." Not sure if that pertains to cabin occupants but you will definitely want to double check if that is a part of your plan. read more

Campsites are nice for this State park. The 2 star is due to the swimming day use park for grilling, etc. Littered with garbage. An employee even commented on how dirty it gets. Lots of thugs and again even the employee commented on the behavior. Back at the campsite across the street there was two park rangers, however they did not bother to "police" that activity. Instead one of the "rangers" got his kicks by blocking the road continuously while he stopped and confirmed reservations with some guests. At dusk, they should be monitoring the day use area to make certain people are safe after a long day bbq and the like. Keep the belligerent drinking kids off the road and keep the park safe. Police campsites at other hours. The ranger in question was a large husky blinding brown haired guy training a young female recruit. God bless her having to be trained by that guy. I may return to camp, but will never bother with the park across the street. Too many hazards. read more

This park was exactly what our family was looking for. We arrived at site 83 on a Saturday and left Monday. The site was very private with a trail from our site to the restrooms. We fished, hiked, and played at the convenient day use park across the street. Spacious sites, clean restrooms, friendly rangers.... we will definitely be using this as our go-to spot. read more
