Thanks to this restaurant, I had quite possibly the worst eating experience of my life. I wish I could give it zero stars. The last time I visited this ihop, granted yes, it was late at night, I had the worst service and the worst food I have ever tasted. When my fiancee and I were seated, which by the way was the quickest part of the entire experience, we waited for the waitor to take our drink orders. And we waited. And waited. With no menus, we waited for 25 minutes to get something to drink. The restaurant was busy, so i tried to overlook our wait. Then we waited to order. for another 30 minutes. The waitor was a young black man, and he intentionally waited on all of the black customers at the tables he was working before he got to us. When we finally got our food, it was cold, and the orders were not taken correctly, as i recall, they were out of french fries, onion rings, and mozzarella sticks, the latter two were supposed to come with my order. And the waiter did not tell us this when I ordered. Finally 2 hours later, we were getting ready to leave, and I was so upset with the service and quality, I complained to the manager and got my bill for free. Do NOT go here ever!!! Absolutely hated this place. Have never been treated so rude and disrespectful in my life. We been driving for 5 hours and stop for a "quick" dinner. There were about 5 servers smoking outside the restaurant (should've know then but we are in a hurry). 20 min to get seated since we had to wait for them to get back in the restaurant. Then she sat us and after about 30 more minutes another server comes and ask if everything was ok my husband said we just want to order (I wanted to cash out and leave). We order and in about 30 more min our food was on the table. There was about three other customers, empty and I see why... IHOP restaurants are usually crowded. Not only did we have to wait forever to be seated (not busy at all) but the manager yelled over the wall and told us to "hold on," we then waited another 10/15 minutes for drinks and I lost track of time between that and him ordering our food. We unfortunately sat next to the kitchen so we heard the microwave door open and close way too much, the servers badmouth several customers, saw prepared food sit out for around 10 minutes (one of which was my salad) and the manager stick his hand in his pants to take care of an uncomfortable situation. Once our food was brought to the table not only was my order wrong but the food was cold and chewy; My boyfriend's chicken fried steak was rubbery and luke warm, the hash browns were sloppy and half cooked. With orders that came out after our I saw the server use a pen to drag the food plate closer to her to serve it, i saw the same server us a finger to see if the food was hot, and that same server ended up giving the table behind ours free food for any issue they had, on top of getting the correct dish to them for free as well. Overall this place really grossed me out- seemed like it was a health department's example of where not to eat. We where sitting waiting for our names to be called for over 30 minutes. As we watched ever table that ordered had a complaint about the food set before them so we got up and left. They where so not organized there was tables empty but no one was being seated. read more

Horrible! I ordered my meal online to go and it was supposed to be ready in 15. I actually waged about 20 min leaving my house and my food was still not ready for another 15 min After I arrived. You'd think it would be warm but it was already cold. Then to top it off the bill was 20 but they charged my card 25. I even ordered drinks separate and the bill was 5 but charged my card almost 8 bucks. If I hadn't checked my act I would hAve noticed. The food from any IHOP is almost never a problem, it always turns out good. The service at this IHOP on the other hand was awful. Our waitress forgot our order, was seen hanging out outside talking to another coworker, and forgot many various items that should always be at the table like, napkins, sugar, silverware. The others that were dining with me finished their drinks quickly and we didn't get revisited by our waitress until she brought out our food, which ended up taking one full hour. My husband, child and I went here for breakfast. The host sat us down and when the server saw us she said "why didn't you seat them somewhere else." Usually come here for breakfast, but lately the service has been especially bad. Whenever I go here, I always get some sort of pancake (duh). Not only did the food take FOREVER to get out, but when it did come out, the pancakes were undercooked and thrown together messily. I've been here several times since moving to Grandview in December '14. I've been pleased with the service and quality of food. My orders have come out accurately and in a timely fashion. The evening environment is quiet and pleasant, and usually has plenty of seating. IHOP isn't really renowned in the serving industry for high-quality service. Usually tips for servers at IHOP are on the lower end, so it generally attracts inexperienced servers, however, I feel like this IHOP has average and above average service for an IHOP. Where I feel like this IHOP could improve is in enhancing their service skills so that their servers can smile and be friendly from start to finish, and be able to provide knowledgeable expertise to help me make the best menu choices when ordering. As a server myself I learned to help my guests make choices that enhanced their dinning experience. read more

We visited this IHOP for the first time yesterday evening. We had adults and small children to please and thought, you can't go wrong with breakfast food! Our server was nice enough but despite the place being almost empty (at 6:30 pm mind you) our food took forever. We saw a lot of employees just standing around not really doing anything. By the time the food came, half of our party's dishes were cold, indicating they weren't all ready at the same time. Almost everything tasted horrible. I know IHOP isn't gourmet food or anything, but we at least expect something edible. No one finished their meal and we didn't even bother to take it home. I went here with a group of 10 to celebrate a birthday, on a Monday around noon. Initially I was wary of coming here because of the numerous negative reviews, but I'm glad I came here anyways. Our waitress Ivron was excellent, and service was reasonably expedient given our large group size. We've gone to this IHOP about 6 times now, as it's the only place locally open that we know of after late night church services. We were seated promptly and order taken quickly so we assumed we would get our food quickly as well. 45 minutes later and with one screaming hungry toddler and no waiter in sight, we gave up waiting and had to leave to feed our child somewhere else. I would give this IHOP zero stars if it were possible. We order carry-out from here occasionally on Sundays when we're feeling lazy. But I honestly can't say why. Last week we were shorted every sauce we ordered (honey mustard, raspberry topping, and marinara) which we PAID for (~$4.50), but that's pretty typical of the quality/service we routinely receive from this Grandview location. There are always several things wrong with our order, but I suspect they know that since it's carry-out and they know that no one will want to make the trip back to fix it. We don't go to Ihop very often because we usually have crappy service. This time was no exception. We waited 5 minutes to be seated with only 2 tables occupied. We had two different waitresses and our main waitress must have been brand spanking new because while we were deciding what to eat (we have a young child so it takes a while to make decisions), she asked us if we were ready about three different times in the span of 5 minutes. Little did we know that would be the most attention we'd receive the entire hour we were there. We were ignored by our server until she brought the food, then we continued to be ignored until we flagged her down for our check (which took another 10 minutes to receive). Our coffee was refilled by another waitress (who had a majority of the tables) and we were I give this place 3 stars is because the food was great (as in our son actually ate all his food). Worst experience in a restaurant I've ever had. The girl with the blue dreads had a full section and never once came and checked on any table. I'm a server, so I know how things go and never have I not tipped somebody because of that, but wow she is the worst server I have ever had in my life. And this wasn't just our server it was every single server in the restaurant doing the same thing. All of us were out of drinks and she just sat at a table across the restaurant and never got up. We only asked for one side of gravy and when we got our bill she charged us twice. When we told her we only got one she said well you got a four ounce so that's why you got charged 2 times. We told her we never asked for a 4 oz and she said we'll that's how they come so that's how you get charged. Seems like a small thing wrong, but not when she's doing it to every table to run up her bills. They even told us there was a wait time when not a single person was seated in the restaurant. They made everyone just sit and wait at the door until I guess they were ready to do their job. What a disgrace read more

This is one of the worst restaurants in town. We went in on a Sunday around 10:30am. There was a line and no hostess in sight. When the hostess/manager showed up he was very curt with the customers before us. When we were finally seated we noticed there were lots of empty tables but also lots of dirty tables. There was a young lady with a hood on her head walking around dragging a blue rag across the tables, then I realized she was an employee. About 15 minutes after placing our order we were told that poached eggs could not be made. My husband asked if they had run out of water. The server told us that the egg station had burned up a few days before. We sat there an watched the employee with the hood slide her rag across more tables but at least four tables in our section were never cleared. When she wasn't sliding the rag across the tables she was behind the waitress station fraternizing with the other employees. When our server brought our check she told us that she would comp the milk due to the inconvenience. Really? Good management would increase receipts at this restaurant by 25%. You cannot serve enough free pancakes to compensate poor service. read more

I'm guessing that this place has undergone a change in management within the last year or 2 when all of the bad reviews were posted. I just had a remarkably good experience. We were waited on by Amy, who was friendly, lightning fast, and when I placed my order, she recommended I do the special for the same price because it came with 2 extra pieces of bacon and unlimited pancakes. Our food came out fast, and the manager came and checked on us twice! Honestly this was some of the best service I've received at any restaurant in quite some time. read more
