I don't even like ice cream, but I found myself at this Igloo Frozen Custard to get myself a little treat. This place is a chain, but it's a local chain within the Lafayette area, so it's still hyper-local, in my mind. If I'm getting ice cream, or frozen custard, as it were here, I need to get ice cream with "stuff" in it that I can chew. I'm not a big fan of the sweet mucus, if you know what I mean. (And I don't expect you to know what I mean, because you're not insane like I am.) When I saw that Igloo has chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches, I knew that's what I'd get! You can definitely chew an ice cream sandwich. One bummer is that I walked up to this joint and tried to go inside, but it was closed! I guess Igloo just functions as a drive-thru ice cream place most of the time. We've only gone to the drive-thru. They're usually busy, and the service is quick anyway. We love their burgers and tenderloin sandwiches as well as their onion rings, fries, and tots. Ranch chicken wraps are yummy. The frozen custard and flavored cokes are also delicious. Such a fun local spot! It's a fine ice cream / custard stand. Pretty straightforward - walk up ordering and outdoor seating, nothing overly remarkable. They do, however, have a dairy-free Dole Whip option, which is always welcome so even the dairy-intolerant can join in the fun. I came to Igloo for the ice cream, or should I say frozen custard. Apparently the ingredients in frozen custard are a little different than ice cream (eggs I think) and boy is this good. They have a large menu with lots of other items, but I came for only one thing. Their Coney Dogs may be delicious but I can't speak to that. Today I chose Butter Pecan. So good. If you find yourself in Lafayette, Indiana this place is worth the visit. It's a city treasure. read more

We were just visiting the area, and this location was conveniently very close to where we were staying. Their menu has a nice variety, including some specialty sundaes, but also the option to make your own sundae by choosing flavor and topping. I had the Oreo with peanut butter, and it was delicious! I didn't get a chance to take a picture--because I started eating as soon as it was handed to me. Service was pretty quick. We sat outside, and there was plenty of seating. Stopped by the drive-through to get vanilla custard with hot fudge and boysenberry sauce with whipped cream. While the custard was good, they were very heavy on the whipped cream--really not much custard in my cup, unfortunately. I wasn't offered the loyalty card, either. Still, the place has a nice nostalgic vibe and can satisfy a sweet tooth. The staff member working the drive-up was not wearing a mask or gloves, though. Hopefully they address this asap. read more

Heard this is the best frozen yogurt place in town so of course we had to stop by and check it out. I ordered their classic vanilla custard, my husband ordered the peanut butter fudge sundae, and brother in law got the Oreo custard. Everything was very delicious, but man was it sweet, rich, and creamy. I am so glad I ordered a small because it was a bit too rich for me. Everyone really enjoyed what they got and I wouldn't mind coming back, but I'm sticking with small sized orders. read more

First time having food from here. As a local, I had high expectations. Ordered the signature double burger that comes with slaw on top. Patties tasted a little old, slaw was nothing special and also old, and bun was so soggy I took it off. My friend has fries that looked crispy and amazing. Had issues with customer service. One person in my group ordered a large slushee and another ordered a medium. The slushees came super over saturated with syrup, so they went to ask for water to dilute it. It was a simple request, but the cashier was irritated. She gave a half-cup for the large and when my other friend asked she said that they charge for the cup. As my friend asked if she could just refill the cup, she slammed the window. also $5 for 4 school mozzarella sticks are outrageous. read more

Sad to say...we were disappointed. This was our first visit here, passing through and went off our track just to check it out. Only menu at counter was a digital...PowerPoint type, that was annoying. Had to wait for the sandwiches to scroll back around. The clerk at the counter got inpatient with us, as we waited to view our options. We were the only ones there...so it's not like there were people waiting behind us. The vanilla shake I ordered had a strange taste to it, there was too much butter on the grilled buns. Three stars didn't seem fair so four it was. Positives are the fruit drink is always great. The mozzarella sticks and breaded mushrooms are above average for foods that are served everywhere. We really enjoy there ice cream but I feel it doesn't transition well to the milkshakes. Also I ate a double cheeseburger there once and it lacked flavor entirely. This has been a local favorite for years. They have the yummiest custard options and old style cherry cokes, my favorite! Their fries are amazing, but the hot dogs are better at Dog N Suds on Sagamore. Don't waste your time on these. This place is pretty inexpensive and local high school kids run the different locations. We have one located right outside of our housing division and plan on walking the dog and pushing our baby there many times this upcoming summer. Food is ok. As a former employee I can say that it's not the best place to work. No one seems to be in a good mood and there's no communication. The wait is always long, but that's to be expected for good food; however, it's totally not worth it when, more often than not, the order is incorrect. Takes longer to find someone to help you fix the food order than to just take the loss to your wallet. Don't bother asking for a refund for missing food either, as the "Managers" never seem to know how to do that.
