Víctor and his team did a great job on my garage door. It looks great and it didn't break the bank.

    Luxor Garage Door Service

    (171 reviews)

The Luxor team really knows their stuff. My garage door opener was very old, going on 20 years, the…read moresensors were starting to be inconsistent and they provided a well rounded set of options for either repairing it or replacing it. I went with the recommended upgrade with the intent of the new one lasting another 20 years. They installed it a few days later and it was super quick and smooth. It's also much quieter, more responsive, has better lighting and has an app so I can know if I remembered to close it. I am reminded of each of these upgrades every time I open the garage door and appreciate it every time. The cost wasn't too bad compared to many other things to keep a house going so the value is there for something that will be used so regularly. Great job by Luxor. Highly recommend as they are responsive, great at communicating, do great work, and really provide quality service.

Our customer-service experience with Luxor--especially the manager's attitude once problems…read morearose--was absolutely horrendous. We hired Luxor to install a brand-new garage door. It arrived with a cracked window and damage serious enough that an entire 16-foot-wide section ultimately had to be replaced. We later reviewed our installation video and confirmed that Luxor did not inspect the new panels before removing our existing garage door. They first inspected them after our old door was already down. Had they inspected first and told us the door was damaged, we would simply have postponed the installation until an undamaged door was available. Instead, Luxor discovered the damage and installed the damaged components anyway. I noticed the broken window before the installer left and was told it had arrived that way and that the owner had been informed. Worse, the installer also discovered the damaged door section during installation and reported it to Luxor, but never disclosed it to us. We found it ourselves after he left. Even when we contacted Luxor about the broken window, Luxor did not tell us its installer had also reported the damaged section. They acknowledged it only after we later discovered and complained about it ourselves. We have been cautious about operating the door while it was damaged, so I cannot yet give a definitive opinion about its long-term functionality. Visually, we generally like it. But the door itself is not what compelled this review. The owner's response to our legitimate concerns is. Luxor immediately demanded the full remaining balance before replacing the damaged components. We repeatedly explained that we were not refusing to pay and were not asking for a discount--we would pay the invoice in full as soon as Luxor provided the complete, undamaged door we ordered. We also identified several problems with Luxor's standard agreement under California home-improvement law. Among other things, it required an $824 deposit on a $4,119 project--about 20%--even though California generally limits home-improvement downpayments to the lesser of $1,000 or 10% absent a statutory exception. We also pointed out that the agreement appears to omit multiple disclosures required by law and contains a provision claiming the contractor may "retain" 150% of disputed punch-list items, which appears to reverse the California statute it references. We further objected to Luxor's insistence that it could collect 100% of the price before replacing the damaged components, even though California generally prohibits home-improvement contractors from requesting or accepting payment exceeding the value of work performed and materials delivered. Rather than meaningfully address any of this, the owner insisted we were wrong, that the agreement was enforceable, that Luxor had done nothing improper, and threatened collection if we did not immediately pay the full balance. When the owner finally came to replace the damaged components, he arrived already complaining that we had objected and had not immediately paid the full invoice while the broken window and damaged section were still installed. His manner was condescending and argumentative from the outset, with seemingly little concern for whether we were satisfied with Luxor's work or how the problem had been handled. Most remarkably, before he would even begin the corrective work, he required me to sign the same agreement again--the very agreement whose terms we had disputed. Products arrive damaged. That alone would not have caused me to write a negative review. What matters is how a company responds. A professional response would have been simple: inspect the new door before removing the old one, disclose all known damage, give the homeowner a choice, replace the damaged components, and collect the remaining balance once the customer receives what was ordered. Instead, Luxor failed to inspect before removing our existing door, installed damaged components after discovering the problems, failed to disclose all known damage, demanded full payment before completing the corrective work, and then treated our entirely reasonable objections as though we were the problem. I've never been made so upset by any company before. They refused to leave after making the repairs and demanded payment on the spot which was not possible because my wife had just left to pick up our dog from the goomer. I had to raise my voice and tell them to get off of my property before they would leave. That attitude--not the manufacturer's damaged components--is why I would not use Luxor again. I am a California attorney, and if other Luxor customers have encountered similar issues with this agreement, downpayments, demands for full payment before corrective work, or other aspects of Luxor's practices, I would be interested in hearing from them to determine whether our experience was isolated or reflects a broader pattern and whether any legal remedies may be available.
