All the while doing nothing to solve my issue with the automated check out. Then after I returned to the store (as I was a bit short to pay the due amount) I was greeted by her at the customer service desk, she tried to ram the trolley into my leg. She missed the first time but got me the second. Coles, while apologetic, have really done nothing in the way of getting me to return to the store. Instead of getting the lady to apologize they offered me a $20 then $100 voucher to make it go away. The lady abused and assaulted me in the store and I cannot even get her last name to get a restraining order against her. Now me and my family do not go to this store and never will again. The most disgusting customer service I have ever come across.

This is one of my regular supermarkets and has recently undergone a massive refurbishment, not only…read moreinside but outside and the car park as well. Another thing I noticed with the new changes is that they now have a man whose sole purpose is to hand you a basket on the way in (it is freakily starting to remind me of China where I saw someone whose sole job was to help trolleys off escalators). Anyway it is a nice feeling to be welcomed and handed a basket. The other change I like is in the fresh food section. The smallgoods and seafood areas have lovely coloured tiles behind them that, at least, make you feel like you are in a real market. The produce is beautifully displayed on ice to try and make you feel like it is fresh but they don't fool me. I only go here for such foods if I can't make it anywhere else. I personally don't like buying any fresh produce from supermarkets. Anyway it fulfils a need. The supermarket, in general, is well laid out and airy so at least you don't feel claustrophobic. It has a good selection of just about everything but in recent times I have become aware of home brands taking over all the shelves so it is hard to find the real brands. The other interesting thing about this supermarket is that in summer there are often lots of tourists from overseas doing their grocery shopping which is always entertaining.

It is cheaper than stopping off at an all-night servo, and they have a bigger range. This is my one-stop shop for toilet paper and chocolate on public holidays! They are even open on Christmas Day and Good Friday. Sometimes later at night they have security out the front, and there is also an ATM outside. I have been shopping there for years for my work in hospitality and event management. But, I am sure that most of you have not been able to shop here because you don't have a ABN to get a membership. Not any longer! I found out recently that if you have an RAA membership or work for a non-profit organisation such as a school, sporting or a social club you can apply. All you need to is download the application and show your cards or documentation. Check out their website for more details. Now, what will you find in this gigantic warehouse? Well, it is like a giant supermarket really. You will find everything you need like toiletries, pasta, canned tuna, spices, soft drinks, etc. You can buy items singly or in bulk. What is the price difference you ask? Well, to save money you want to buy in bulk, that is where to true savings are. But, if you want single items you still have a bit in comparison to a normal supermarket. So, let's just say you have a party coming up and you need paper plates, cups, forks, party pies, lollies, chips, etc. You can buy all those items and more really well priced here. This is my one stop party shop. Just yesterday I needed a bunch of popcorn kernels and paper bags for an event. I really need to buy bulk items to feed a lot of people. I purchased 500 paper bags for $8 and 12 bags of 375g popcorn kernels for $10. That is pretty good! It might surprise you to know that you can purchase good quality fresh meat and vegetables here as well. Great place to shop for Christmas dinner to save some money. So, if you meet the criteria to get a membership it is worth checking out if you have a big party coming up! Or if you like buying in bulk to save money.

This one time I was making a really giant sculpture out of grey PVC duct tape. I had bought ALL the…read moreduct tape at my local cheap stores. Bunnings was ridiculously overpriced. What I really needed was a lot of really, really cheap tape. Cheap stores were selling rolls at $2.50 p/unit. Campbell's Cash and Carry hit back at $1 p/unit. Right on. If you consume any item in bulk, this is the place to come. I'm talking Red Bull, Extra Chewing Gum, Neapolitan Icecream, toilet paper, condoms, Skittles, whatever. The lolly aisle alone is bigger than my local Foodland. Don't lose your shit when you get in there, stay calm. Get your bearings. Get to know the aisles - cruise for bargains before committing. Don't go crazy, you don't need a four litre bottle of chocolate syrup. But the more you buy, the cheaper the unit price. To get cheaper bargains, you need an ABN. No sweat, anyone can get one - sort yourself out online.

There isn't that much in Woolworths that we need, but it still makes us happy to pay a quick visit every once in a while after work. Everything you need in a grocery store is here. I just wish it was as big as the Wal-Mart I saw in Texas. Depending on what you need, you can spend anywhere from $10 to $120 as you exit the store. By the way, I scored a brand new computer desk lamp for only $19.95!! Where else can you buy such a thing for a low price? That's half the price of the lamps that rip you off at other places! I needed one desperately for my long hours of yelping in front of the computer because the old lamp that served me for 15+ years finally ran out of globe life. If you hunt properly, you can actually find some great grabs for less than $5! They're always doing low-price promotions here! I love it! I don't usually carry much cash, but that's okay! There are plenty of those swiping machines for you to use now, when you've collected all your items. Yay! God bless the staff in green for helping everyone out when they're stuck on the swiping machines, as we walk out. God bless this new invention for supermarkets! I wonder if any other non-grocery stores will take this concept on? So I walked out with new boxes of tissues for my hayfever in less than 5 minutes. In and out. If only I had more cash for groceries, I'd actually love this store because they are the number one most profitable supermarket business in Adelaide, and none of their competitors come close to the amount of profits "Woolies" make every year. And I must commend the staff in their green uniform, thank you for the friendly chat when I needed to decide which orange juice to buy, and the difference between the Aussie juices and the imported juices. However, this depends where you are exactly. If you're shopping on the upper level (there are only two levels), then you have a very slim chance of being helped in the aisles (no-one's there!), and that's not right because that's where customers need the most help = finding things! Nevertheless, I ALWAYS find myself drifting back and forth inside here everytime I'm in Rundle Mall. I confess, I'm a certified Woolworths regular.

Everytime I'm here I get a cheese and bacon roll, and it's always softy-soft, and seems to have been freshly baked that morning. I'm not the only one who thinks so as last time I was here at 11am, and lucky to get the last one. The staff are also very friendly (almost a little too friendly, they might just chew your ear off yapping). In a nutshell - support the non-conglomerates!

Ok, I know it seems rather silly to be writing about a giant supermarket that nobody will miss if…read morethey ever enter chinatown, but this one holds special significance to me and used to me a nightly haunt for me whenever I was up late at uni and needed a place to walk around or just restock on red bull and chips in the middle of the night. The only supermarket in town that opens again after midnight, it was like a beacon of hope for all those international students who had come to Adelaide not realizing that most places closed at 5pm and there was literally nowhere to go at night in order to shop. It has gotten better since back in those days, with shops opening up to 7pm or 7:30pm I think along Rundle Street, but back then, you'd go to Coles in chinatown after 12 and you'd see mostly asian people walking through the aisles, not necessarily to buy anything, but just to walk amongst potentially purchasable goods. I'm not one to judge, as I used to be one of them and really do appreciate Coles giving me a place I could go to in the middle of the night. Since moving away from the city, I have found an IGA near my place that never closes. Still, first's will always be firsts, and the chinatown Coles will always hold a special place in my heart that no other supermarket can replace.

You can enter either from Grote St or from the inside markets, to save you walking all the way around. Apart from the fact that I see everyone here, from old friends to old teachers, what makes this Coles great is that it sells things like imported gelatine, Korean wafers, and other international brands. Being on the brink of Chinatown probably explains why it stocks these amazing creations. Additionally, the staff are always friendly and cheerful, and ready to help. My shopping experiences have been nothing but pleasant here. Oh, and did I mention that they're open from midnight, Mondays to Saturdays? How convenient for all you nocturnal folk!

This Foodland is one of three that are embracing organic produce, wider range of locally sourced produce and less demanding impulse buys. I will generally source most of my shopping from farmers markets and local butchers but for my main shop for everything I will come here to get all those other daily needs. I can't tell you how happy it makes me to support a local business but I do have a tendency to pat myself on the back regularly :)

So, to hear so many people rave about Foodland means they must be doing something right. Friends that live in Norwood think they have the best Foodland. Same with those living in Mitcham. I'm a huge fan of my local at Frewville and this is my review, so I can say wholeheartedly, I think Frewville tops them all! I've been shopping here for six years and drop in two to three times a week. It had a major renovation in 2011 which has turned it from a daggy site with a great selection of produce, to a sensational, modern site with an array of quality products and a strong focus on local producers. Foodland are big supporters of South Australian products and offer a great range. The foodies I know will often shop here if they can't make it to Grote Street (or can't face the parking hassles) and I know why. I've picked up stuff here that I've never seen in a Woollies or Coles, such as Persian fairy floss or yiros meat in the freezer section. There's even an entire corner at the entrance of the store dedicated to fine foods. The small goods and cheeses available rival the Central Markets (big call, I know, but I stand by it) and there is a dedicated organic fruit and vege stand at the entrance. The staff always have a great attitude and are of all ages and give the impression they genuinely enjoy their job. With the renovation they've introduced a mini cafe at the entrance that offers espresso coffee, lunch items (rolls, wraps etc) and biscuits and cakes. There are a few tables near the checkouts and despite their odd position, there is almost always someone sitting at one of them sipping a coffee or having a bite to eat as I leave. On the odd occasion when a special is too good to forgo, I'll slip over to the nearby Woollies at Arkaba, but generally, you'll find me here, supporting a local company who supports local small business.

Caruso's Fresh Foods on Jetty Road at Glenelg is much more than just a greengrocer. While they…read morestock ample supplies of all the best quality fruit and vegetables sourced daily from the Adelaide Produce Markets, they also carry a range of other foods making them a one stop shop - more like a mini market than just a fruit and veg shop. As well as your fresh produce you can also pick up cold meats and smallgoods, fresh dips and pates, a myriad of Olive varieties, quiches and ready made salads. I personally love their Arrancini which are like risotto balls in a 'to die for' Bolognese sause. Oils ain't oils anymore with what they have on offer at Caruso's in the oil department. You can get your hands on brands and varieties including Pendleton Estate, Lucia's Fine Foods, Maroudas olive oils, Brookfarm Macadamia oil, Jamie Oliver's Avocado Oil, Rice Bran Oil and Azalea Grapeseed oil. There's also a range of coffees, teas and (my personal favourite) chocolates in the store. Caruso's is located about half way down Jetty Road and are directly opposite the end of Waterloo Street.

This section is headed up by Julie who remembers the names of the regulars and enjoys a chat with them as she slices the meats. They have a wide selection of hams and their short cut bacon is a hit in my family. I love the fact that you can cook a whole meal from this one place without having to venture into a cold impersonal supermarket. You can buy specialty bread, milk, eggs, a variety of cheeses and pasta to go. As a regular, all the staff turn to say hello as I glide past with my trolley. At the checkout, if you are ever there say hello to Ollie, she has been there for years and is good value, always reminding me to get my loyalty card out when I forget. Her till is the one closest to the wall. Tip: If you are buying lots of groceries and your car is a distance away, the lovely staff will help carry your bags to your car door!
