He isnt a drill sergeant, but will upliftingly try to push you to your best. Also picks up on cues as to why you mightve missed your last lift and helps you correct it. VERY knowledgable and makes you feel comfortable and confident he'll have an answer if you ask him something. Programming: very organized programming that follows a xx week cycle. Tackles everything from gymnastics to weightlifting, aerobic to anaerobic workouts. You get alot of work done within the hour class time frame. If thats not enough for you, he also programs complimental accesory to touch up any weaknesses you may want to improve. Location: right off blaine/3rd street off the 60 fwy, very convenient to anyone near the riverside/moval/ san bern area. Gym: has all the equipment you need. There have been so many changes over the years to the gym here at UCR, mostly to try to better the place. They've moved things around, made things nicer, added more things, and overall improved the gym space but adding things like extra power racks and now they have a weight sled on the second floor. Service is generally friendly but usually whenever I ask the front desk for things, they seem lost or they act like they don't care about anything. Overall, I do think that this recreation center is a lot nicer than other the other UCs. Some of my complaints include that they refuse to have higher dumbbell limits, since the highest dumbbells only go up to 100. I know it's not in-demand to have them, but if students need to progress, you'd think they'd add more weights. I also don't like that they got rid of some of the leg machines downstairs and moved them upstairs. By doing that, you're making students become even more lazy from doing leg workouts more often and you've created a chicken leg epidemic! haha If you're coming to this gym from outside of the university, I believe that they have guest passes for $5. But if you're from UCR, I highly suggest utilizing this gym because it's included in your tuition.

The equipment is kept clean, and you can use the rooms to do floor training when classes aren't being held. Speaking of classes - they have people come and teach Zumba, Pilates, or again - anything you need. Water stations on both floors, and clean bathrooms on both floors as well. Sometimes the SRC gets crowded, but that's mostly after the New Years. If you avoid prime hours of working out you'll have no problem getting the machines you need. However, even if it is crowded, you'll still get what you need with a short wait time. If you're a student or have the opportunity to use this gym, I strongly recommend it!

Located in Riverside, this Hangar 18 has plenty of top rope and belay projects for fans to do. Parking is located in the front and toward the sides of the gym. There are two different doors you can enter from. The main door to scan for membership will be towards the sides with the gated parking spots. It was extremely hot and there isn't AC blasting in the climbing section. AC is available in the changing area and restrooms. There's also a lounging area, which is very unique. There was plenty of routes for climbers of all different types. As a fan of the slab wall, there wasn't much for me to do. In comparison to my home gym, we aren't allowed to sit on the mats at this location nor could we have our drinks on it. So do be mindful. Other than that, it was a unique experience, but I prefer my main location more.

At first, I missed my old girlfriend (Athletics United) but quickly I started I became infatuated by Ape Arena. Right off the bat they bought all new equipment. Rowers, Bikes, Bars, Plates, Ergs, Racks, Dumbbells, Kettlebells. It is a first class operation. Not to mention they have meals, supplements, and fitness plans to help meet your goals. The owner is a nut. Yes I said it. He is all over the map in a good way. He has unlimited energy. He's the type of person that you wanna be around because he inspires and motivates you. He is very intense and he might be crazy (in a good way). With that said, Chris is the guy you want to train you and energize this group fitness environment. Chris really cares and is so passionate about good technique, gains, health and he loves to yell, play loud music and motivate you. It is a blast. He is in your corner. Chris is a solid dude and you will take the time to give you the tools for your success. Jessica (Chris' wife) also is very passionate about fitness. She is a beast, and has an extra gear and often works out with the group when she is not busy with new clients. Chris and Jessica are an awesome team! It is more than a business to them and they love what they do which makes all the difference. Workouts: Expect the unexpected. No other workout routine can give you so much in so little time. I think the best part of Ape Arena is the family environment. Most people here are not teenyboppers or people that are looking to date other people, they are folks that are established and are trying their best to achieve personal goals and there is definitely a sense of community when we're all working out together. What sets this gym apart from others I believe from what I hear from my other friends at other gyms is our coaches are absolutely amazing. In addition to Chris, you have Malik and Chity (I know I misspelled it) and they are alike in consistency but all have great strengths individually. Collectively they are all professionals and masters of their craft and they all care about you, your goals, and your health. I love the team that they assembled I think I will be coming here a long time because I have so much fun doing hard work and the results I have seen are absolutely amazing. Pound-for-pound I am probably the strongest I have ever been in my life and that's pretty crazy because I was pretty fit in the Marine Corps. You can't go wrong at this gym but I will say things are not easy. You have to put in the work. You have to be focused. You have to work on things that coaches to tell you to do.
