Scenario: We purchased a vehicle from CarMax and it was in Columbus, OH. We paid the transfer fee to have it brought to Louisville. It took 2+ weeks, multiple phone calls and follow-ups, and several false starts to actually get it transferred. The local team reimbursed the transfer fee and did what they could to make it right. Corporate CarMax, help these guys out and fix how your departments work together to support your local teams who are in front of customers.

I have previously purchased cars from CarMax so I went back........Big mistake! I was greeted at…read morethe door and I was asked? Are you working with any salesperson? I said No so the gentleman said "well I can help you. I knew what I wanted to test drive so I explained to this salesperson and he retrieved the vehicle from its place on the lot. He didn't tell me he had to jump start it........ I test drove the vehicle and they evaluated my trade in. During the test drive I asked the salesperson what route people usually take. He told me he was new to the area and didn't know the streets. (You would have thought that was part of the training!) After the test drive I was told how much my trade was valued so I agreed and completed the paperwork for the purchase. After completing the paperwork I was waiting for the car to be brought up to the area where I could drive off. However........the car wouldn't start. The battery was dead. So the salesperson told me I could pick up the car the following day - they would replace the battery. He explained that service would have it ready when they opened at 10:00am. I arrive at 10:00 to complete the sale and pick up the car............I have my vehicles titled in my revocable trust. So the person in the business office asked me if my Wife was with me? I told her No it wasn't necessary. She then told me it was necessary. Another person in the office actually looked at my "Certificate of trust" to see that I am a Trustee and either Trustee can sign! (Again, you would think people in the business office would be trained!) Then I was told the car wasn't ready............they requested I go get a late breakfast! They admitted to not knowing the car needed service. Needless to say I could not understand how a Customer buying a Major Asset would be treated this way! I left before I said something unpleasant. While having my "late breakfast" I received a text telling me they ordered a battery and were waiting on it to be delivered! They would contact me after the Service Dept installed the battery. Needless to say I did not buy the car. WORST CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE EVER ! I left and went to Bachman Hyundai in Jeffersonville and purchased a Hyundai Santa Fe.

When she tried to take it back to have it addressed, staff treated her poorly and attempted to charge her for repairs. She was in tears. This was her first car--purchased with the entire $5,500 she had worked over a year to save during her last year of high school. She had no money left to fix a vehicle she had just bought. We contacted the previous owners and learned Craig & Landreth had paid less than half of what they sold it to her for--and made no repairs before reselling it. When I spoke with Joey, his response was essentially, "That's the risk of buying a used car." I reached out multiple times seeking some form of remedy. No meaningful effort was made to do the right thing. My family had purchased several vehicles from Craig & Landreth before and trusted them enough to send our daughter there for her first car. That was a mistake. They took advantage of a young, first-time buyer and sold her garbage. That $5,500 was everything she had. Watching a company show zero conscience about taking it from an 18-year-old speaks volumes about their character. The experience was devastating for her and permanently soured what should have been an exciting milestone. We eventually repaid our daughter ourselves because we felt awful for referring her to a business that treated her this way. I reached out to Joey again recently--still nothing. It's especially disturbing to see him publicly brag about spending $3,000 on a cheesecake for charity while showing no remorse for ripping off an 18-year-old fresh out of high school for $5,500. I guess one makes for a better photo op than the other.

He was patient, answered all my questions and took the time to send additional photos of the car. I live out of town and it was more cost effective to fly there and make the 4 hour drive back with my newly purchased car. Terrance offered to pick me up from the airport and ensured I had a smooth experience. He truly advocated for me and listened to a concern I had after the test drive. My one complaint is that Bachman was not flexible with financing. I have stellar credit was forced to take a high interest rate from one of their partners. They told me they don't accept financing presented by the customer so I was forced to take the high rate. My credit union's loan officer said dealers are more than capable of accepting outside financing but often will mislead because of incentive for using their partners. The rate they gave me was insulting and I plan to refinance immediately. Overall, smooth process and big fan of Terrance. Be prepared to fight for financing.

1 STAR -- BUYER BEWARE…read more This was easily one of the worst car-buying experiences I have ever had. I wasted nearly a week trying to purchase a Subaru Forester from this dealership, only to have them REFUSE TO SELL ME THE CAR after taking my deposit and running my credit. My first interaction was with a salesperson named Jim, whom I found extremely pushy and condescending. I told the dealership I was not comfortable working with him. Manager Jeff Williams then reached out, offered me a good deal, and assigned me to another salesperson, Walker. I test drove the Forester and put down a deposit on Tuesday. I was waiting for an insurance settlement to arrive, which came in Friday. Walker was out Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and specifically asked me to wait until Monday to complete the purchase. I agreed. On Monday, I communicated with Walker throughout the day trying to arrange a time to finalize the sale. I completed their online credit application and was approved for the promotional financing. I had already insured the Forester, had my down payment ready, and had made it very clear that I did not want GAP coverage, warranties, or other add-on products. I repeatedly explained that I wanted as much paperwork as possible prepared ahead of time so I could come in, sign, pay, and leave. I initially asked about coming in at 3:00. I was told they had other vehicle pickups and to come at 6:00 instead. Then, at approximately 4:30, Walker called and told me that if I came in that evening there would be AT LEAST a two-hour wait just to finalize my paperwork. At that point, I asked a very reasonable question: When can I make an appointment to purchase the car with minimal waiting? Their response was essentially that they don't make appointments for this. Instead of giving me a time when they could complete a transaction THEY HAD KNOWN ABOUT FOR DAYS, they refunded my deposit and told me they were no longer going to sell me the Forester. Seriously. I wasn't negotiating the price. I wasn't backing out. I wasn't asking them to hold the vehicle indefinitely. I was an approved buyer with a deposit on the vehicle, insurance already obtained, a down payment ready, and financing approved. I was literally asking them to give me an appointment to come PAY FOR THE CAR. Now, after wasting nearly a week, I have no Forester and I have a hard inquiry on my credit report from financing a vehicle this dealership ultimately refused to sell me. The entire experience was incredibly unprofessional. I found the sales staff rude and the way this transaction was handled completely unacceptable. If you're considering buying a vehicle here, BUYER BEWARE. Get absolutely everything in writing before allowing them to run your credit or taking a deposit. Based on my experience, I would never attempt to purchase a vehicle from this dealership again.
