Apologies in advance for the later tone of this review, but I have to lead off by saying that the food was great. Service, however, left much to be desired. The gentleman who helped us was friendly for sure, but it seemed like he was doing all the work (save cooking itself) while the woman nearby played on her phone behind the register. She occasionally made coffee or tea, but ignored checking in on any of us or helped to clear tables. Maybe she was only in charge of making the hot beverages or something? Seemed like she could have been helping out. Regardless of that, the food was good and around the (admittedly high) prices of the area. Not a place I'll be rushing back to however.

If you are in Dalkey, you need to try this place. The staff is lovely and they were particularly happy last time I was there (wondering why - the good weather maybe?) Anyway, it is a small place but plenty of options in the menu. I usually for the carrot cake but this time they only had a single piece of cake left and it seemed... not good. So instead I had a cranberry and oat cookie. So good. I ordered extra cream just because it was fresh - I saw one of the staff preparing it. The menu is also on the wall. Wifi password is also there.

Typical run-of-the-mill cafe. Nothing special that does well due to it's location, and the sore lack of good coffee shops in the vicinity.

Great cafe, fun and sociable atmosphere. Perfect place to grab a nice breakfast or lunch before or after a walk on Killiney hill or beach.

It overlooks the peoples park and in the near distance, the sea. I went there for Christmas lunch with my family and it was a great lunch and I have absolutely zero complaints about the food quality, it was top nosh! The reason it loses a couple stars though are because the menu is very small and limited so you can't be a picky eater, luckily I eat everything but that's not the case for a lot of others. The fact that it's made from redbrick and glass also means that it's very very loud inside with everyone talking as it doesn't absorb any sound and it just bounces around the room, very hard to hear your own conversation. And my final complaint / warning is that the ginger beer they serve has a lot more ginger in it than you might expect, it's flavored naturally with powder ginger and really gives you a kick, so beware! Apart from a couple things if your looking for a decent place to eat, it really stands out over everywhere else in Dun laoghrie and the price is very moderate too!

When we arrived it was fairly empty, however as we ate it started to fill and by the time we were done the place was nearly full. I decided to go for one of my favourite and simple combos: wings and sweet potato fries. Wasn't disappointed. Really nicely done, plenty of food and could even share a few spares with the rest of the table to try. My friends ordered the burger, halloumi tacos and jerk chicken salad. All were very happy with their choices too. Next time I'll be checking out the cheeseburger spring rolls - sound intriguing! Lovely, friendly and chatty staff. There wasn't many on the floor but didn't have any issue getting their attention when needed and service was pretty quick. The only thing I was disappointed about was the lack of beer selection. From what I recall there was only Heineken and Tiger. I was really surprised to see a new restaurant, especially a modern style one with bespoke cocktails, lacking a range of craft beers. Not even one! If they owners are reading this review.. I'm happy to recommend some for you ;)

The teeny tiny town was about a mile away and had a couple pubs which was surprising considering most towns in Ireland have the streets dotted with pubs. The hotel and locals said go to The Magpie and we did and had a great meal. The portions were humongous and we ordered way too much food. Of course we had to try the local version of the seafood chowder which did not disappoint as it was loaded with tons of seafood. We also got a seafood linguine. When you're surrounded by the ocean you always go for seafood! At least we do.

Likely it was since the kitchen just opened that the oil wasn't hot enough or the chips were put into the oil still frozen/cool. So while the chips flavor was spot on this is more of a glitch than consistent problem. The the crab and crawfish cakes came out and they were cooked perfectly and very tasty. It was a light lunch as my friend and I shared the chips as a starter and then ordered starters for our meals. It was more than enough . The restaurant has a great view of the intersection and the shops looking towards Dalkey Castle. Inside it was clean and spacious as the tables were spaced apart to feel not close.
