I wanted to help my local community when I wanted 2 doors replaced in my house. The beginning started out nice. We ordered our doors and the owner came out to measure for the new doors. We waited and they came in, the subcontractor that came was very nice and very good at his job, he installed the front door that was poorly painted, you can see the drips in the window opening. But here is where it all when to crap..... the back door is not a normal size door. (remember who measured for the door- the owner). The subcontractor prepared and installed the new door, found that the new door is to tall and only opens about a foot now because it hits the drain pipes from the bathroom upstairs. He called Ideal and they wanted to just Board up our back door. He also wanted to redirect our plumbing that was in the way of the door instead of fixing the door..... That was not acceptable we had to live with the door that only opened a foot until months later when the owner realized this was not taken care of and then has to have the door sent to be cut to the correct specs. We waited about a month or more for the door to be back from getting cut. Finally it was installed and we were done. They were very difficult to deal with and I would not recommend them to anyone. TOO bad really, I could have spent less from a big box store and probably been more pleased with the outcome. read more

When selecting an entry door replacement to our home, we stopped at the booth at the home show and were impressed by the knowledgeable information we received. After deciding we were ready to go with a replacement we looked up Ideal windows and Doors and went to their showroom. Brian helped us through the selection process and put together exactly what we wanted explaining and getting our input. A quick trip to the house to verify measurements then a short wait while custom door was made. When door arrived we were notified and scheduled to our convenience. They installed two windows for us and they look great! They had trouble getting one of our old windows out and had to break it. My only complaint is that they left a bunch of glass pieces on our front porch/front entry area that I expected to be cleaned up better. This was in Cedar Rapids, IA. It was a pleasure working with Brian at Ideal to replace all 40-some windows (and a couple sliding glass doors) in our home. I had received quotes from a couple other companies (anyone can probably guess the usual's) and wasn't particularly impressed with either their bids, their product, or the service. A friend told me to call Brian, best referral I could've gotten. He was very thorough during the walkthrough, and made some excellent suggestions when it came to ideas for window style and design. In fact, his suggestions saved me a couple thousand dollars and actually added a legal bedroom space to our house simply by ensuring the new windows met egress requirements. Little stuff I never would have thought of, and things the other guys never mentioned. The crew Brian sent for the install was excellent, and they really went above and beyond in terms of some finishing work that made everything look great. The communication from the work crew was outstanding, we never wondered what was going on (rare for contractors!). Since the install, we had only one issue - a scratch in the glass of a sliding door on the 2nd floor (guess it was damaged hoisting it up over the balcony). I called Brian and he immediately ordered a new sliding door, no questions asked, and they replaced the whole thing about a week later. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. read more

Originally the intention was just have my garage resided and replace a side door/windows. After seeing a glowing review of this business, I called Larry who came out to take a look. He clearly knew what he was doing & answered every question. He had options, showed several siding/door samples, gave me a ballpark figure followed by a detailed estimate a few days later. I originally thought the estimate seemed slightly high but was so impressed with our interaction that I felt good about signing it. You might think this was careless, but I knew I was going to have the house resided at some point and I wanted to be comfortable with the folks I was dealing with again. A few weeks later, I was offered a very nice financing deal by my bank so I decided I was all in. Larry visited the house again with front door/sliding door options as well as some nice faux stone surrounds for the front of the house. (btw I thought the doors' pricing was very competitive considering installation) Made my decisions and they hooked me up with a subcontractor to have more insulation blown into the walls of my early 60's built home while we had it stripped. Again, I was given a nicely detailed estimate and a few weeks later the work began. These guys are neat, very organized and incredibly polite. At one point, I was home sick from work and Bob (the project point man) offered to come back another day to avoid the noise disturbing my sleep. The noise/activity didn't bother me at all, but it impressed me enormously that he made the offer. It pretty much set the tone for the entire project. Some of the materials were on back order so it took somewhat longer than expected but I received updates nearly every day from Bob. We discussed what he was doing, the details of what I wanted and any suggested changes, which weren't many, but they were good ones. The crew was also flexible when scheduling electricians etc who were adding outdoor soffit lighting. ( I wish the electrician had been as communicative as Ideal was.. that's another review ). In the end, everything looked amazing. Rave reviews from the photos I put on Facebook. The neighbors stop to comment (they especially love the stone surround at the front entrance), & picked up Ideal's business cards. The final invoice had NO surprises tacked on: Only the items we'd discussed which were no more than what we'd agreed on. The short story is you get what you pay for and I felt like these folks are worth every penny. I hope Brian (Ideal's president) appreciates how great Larry and Bob are to deal with. I sure do!
