I contacted the Austin office in Hill Country Galleria on Oct 8, fully described the scope of my desired project and location. She said she woukd talk to some guy (forget his name) and they would call back. NINE DAYS LATER.....today is Oct 18.....nothing. No return call, not the courtesy of any response, professional or otherwise.....just.....nothing. Given this, I can only imagine how poor communication would be during a project with them. Clearly, I'm walking away from them and think any prospective customer should consider my experience as a warning before attempting to deal with them. read more

Ideal Turf provided the lowest estimate out of three. They also demonstrated work in my neighborhood in Austin. Know that, the sales person and project manager are not one and the same. You really need to be there when they're performing work. Tell them exactly what you want. It helps if you speak Spanish. I found it difficult to communicate what I wanted and it showed in the final result. I had an irregular design so sales and operations were reluctant to accommodate. I accepted the change so as to not generate more turf waste and get a little more turf area. This is a Fort Worth company. The crew came down from DFW to ATX. As a result, some obvious scheduling issues arose. Communication was missing. It made the process difficult. I am very understanding of rain delays and work backlog due to COVID. However the scheduler overlooked dates I was unavailable and the crew delayed after not having the turf available. When the crew shows up to work is when you need to be available. Customer service is not this company's strength. The process from initial sales meeting to project completion took nearly 3 months 4/16/21-6/11/21. Understandable during rainy season and the number of people wanting putting greens in their backyard during COVID. The crew used some of my tools and drank a couple sparkling waters from my garage. I confirmed this w/ crew lead. Turf was laid out in the street. Cars drove over it. Ideal's contract states they charge extra for removing existing landscaping and you'd need to deal with any existing drainage issues ahead of time. Take that literally. They lay out crushed rock and level it, but if you have any uneven grades or existing rock/pavers needing to be removed like I did, hire a landscaper first. In all the company did what they said they'd do, installed synthetic turf for the agreed upon price that was lower than competitors. Some of the edging is rough and a portion is not straight, but the turf quality is good. read more

Highly recommend. They did two partial areas in our backyard so had to merge with remaining natural grass. Price was much less than other 3 quotes I got. Crew was on time, fast, cleaned up everything. The foreman was worried about how our gutter runoff was going to affect turf, so they cut and rerouted our downspout (with our ok) and then *cleaned the gutters*. Holy cow. And it still cost 3/4 what the other guys wanted. Turf looks great, nice match with natural grass too. read more

Ideal Turf is the best choice if you want to buy from the experts. You can tell from the website to the knowledge of their people that they're experts. And due to the cost of turf, you want to make sure you spend your hard earned money with people that know what they're doing. The product I selected is specifically designed for dogs and has a faster drain rate than any other product I found on the market. Something you should know... We accapted a quote several months in advance of our pool being installed and gave a 50% deposit. We ended up changing pool installers and that pushed out the install until April 2023, almost a year from the date of the turf quote. At that point we were re-desiging our backyard and was not sure how the turf would fit in. I asked to cancel the deal and have them back out next year to start the process over. They said sure, as long as you pay the 30% (over $3,300) restocking fee. WHAT? I asked them when I had been told this since they are required to disclose this type of policy up front and they have never responded. I also asked for evidence that they are out $3,300 by us cancelling, since I really doubt they special ordered this turf and cut it and rolled it up and put our names on it where it sits in the corner of their warehouse. Again, no response. Ask a lot of up front questions. I will update this when we get back the results of the BBB complaint. read more

I requested an estimate for some turf for my dog. The guy came out and gave me a bid. I scheduled the install for a day about a month or longer in advance and paid the deposit. The day of the install, they told me it would be the next day. On Wednesday nobody showed up or returned my phone call. On Thursday nothing. Friday I called and they said the guys would be at my house at 3pm. Then I got a text saying it would be 5:30. At six I got a message that couldn't make it. I cancelled my project and requested a return of my deposit. I find Ideal Turf completely unreliable and now I have to start all over again. I do NOT recommend them. read more

My experience with Ideal turf was exceptional across many different levels. The first was service. They responded to my request for a quote within a couple hours and Tim worked around my schedule to be at my house within 48 hrs. He came to my house, explained the process and options, and accommodated for the unique areas we needed to turf. The second was quality. They have many types of turf and Tim helped us find the exact type of turf for our high traffic areas. His installers, Pablo and Chuy, were meticulous in their installation. The turfed area was around our limestone pool with many edges and different elevations. They were quite exact with how they packed the fill, put rings around our trees, and ensured that the elevation grade allows for nice flow into other areas of our yard. Their installers asked for any specific instructions (which I had). They were polite and professional. And after the job they cleaned and swept any leftover debris. Finally, even for this level of service they were economical as compared to the other providers I spoke with. read more

Mark came out, measured both areas, picked the one he thought worked best, showed me the design, and asked what I wanted. I told him: tough, hard to play, something that simulates real golf. That's what we got. Letting Mark design it the way he thought was best was the right call. The customer service was incredible. The pool company had left the drain area unfinished, so Mark drove to Lowe's, picked up a drain cover, and came back to finish it himself. He even updated where the irrigation should run to make it a fun, usable four-hole green. That level of attention to detail, not just letting things slide, was consistent throughout. We also had them install artificial turf in the other area. With young kids, Mark thought about details I wouldn't have, making sure it was soft underfoot and wouldn't get too hot. He really listened. He came back a week later for a walk-through and cleaned up the edges to make sure it was exactly what we wanted. The price was very reasonable for what we got, and the end product is so much fun. The green is tricky. You have to get the pace and angle right. I'm pretty sure one of the holes is impossible, but maybe that's just my golf game. So glad we brought in a specialist. The work from Mark and the team has been amazing

I have been attempting to get Bo and Eli at Smart Turf to honor their one year installation warranty for the last two months with no success. If you are looking at Smart Turf, you should be aware they sub-contract the installation work and these sub-contractors have no time to warrant their installations. This is not what I was told when I agreed to move forward with Smart Turf after interviewing more than five companies. Smart Turf and their installers are driving new business only and do not have the business controls and management structure to take care of warranty work for existing customers. I have had six no-shows from their installers in the past four weeks. I have made several attempts to contact the Smart Turf Corp office and have not heard back from any executive of the company. I would not do business with Smart Turf based on my very poor experience.

With the staircase and multiple contours that they had to contend with, it wasn't a typical typical dog run, but they cut the turf perfectly to the complex area and the project came out extremely clean. They even installed a french drain at no extra cost when they realized it would be necessary to preserve the integrity of the turf. They nicked an irrigation pipe which was completely reasonable and expected, given the criss-crossing network of pipes, but they were quick to own up to it and repair it with no questions asked. This team is just starting out in Austin in an effort to expand beyond their Las Vegas home base, which explains the low (but positive) number of ratings. Give them a chance; I promise you won't be disappointed.

Unfortunately, despite countless follow-up messages over several months, no one ever showed up and the issue was never resolved. We even ran into Zac by chance in person, hoping that would finally move things forward. He apologized and told us he would send someone the following week. Based on his promise, I rearranged my schedule and changed my plans to make sure I would be available. Unfortunately, once again, no one came. There wasn't even a phone call, text message, or courtesy notice to let us know they weren't coming. After that, they simply stopped responding again. The most disappointing part wasn't the defect itself--problems can happen with any project. The real issue was the complete lack of communication, accountability, and follow-through. When you pay for a professional installation, you expect the company to stand behind its work and honor its warranty. Unfortunately, that never happened. I cannot recommend US Turf based on my experience. If customer service and warranty support are important to you, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Lone Star Turf responded to my inquiry within an hour and scheduled a consult the very next day. They were honest and straightforward explaining the entire process thoroughly. I never felt like they were trying to upsell me like some of the other companies. They were also able to quote me for black rock in my existing flower beds and a small drainage issue. I found a lot of the other turf companies only provided turf installation so it was nice to find a company that could help me with my entire yard, not just the areas I wanted turf. Lone Star Turf finished my yard in one day. The installation went flawlessly, and there was no mess leftover. Overall I was very impressed with the professionalism, speed, and quality of their work.

However, post-install, I discovered that my sprinklers were no longer working, although they were working the 1st day of install (I ran them to make sure the crew found all the sprinkler heads). I ultimately identified a cut sprinkler common wire next to a valve box, and under the new turf (confirmed with a wire tracer). If you know in-ground irrigation, you know that a cut common wire brings down THE ENTIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM. So now my sprinklers haven't run since the turf install in late April. In all honesty, I can't prove Lone Star cut the wire. But the sprinklers were working the 1st install day, and then I identified a cut wire under the new turf. Not a lot of ways that can happen. When I notified Lone Star about this damage, I was told that (quoting from the email Lone Star sent to me), "I do need to refer you to the terms outlined in your signed contract with Lone Star Turf. Our agreement includes a provision stating that Lone Star Turf is not responsible for damage to underground irrigation systems, lines, or related components during installation, and that it is the homeowner's responsibility to identify and mark the location of all underground systems prior to the start of work." Remember when I said that I ran the sprinklers for the crew to make sure we knew where everything was? Also, this wire was next to an in-ground valve box. I would think that would be indicator there were wires and pipes in that area. But I guess that wasn't enough effort on my part. Anyway, Lone Star then "kindly" offered to send a crew to lift the turf so that a irrigation contractor (that I would need to find and pay for) could fix the cut wire, but that I would also have to pay for the Lone Star crew. On top of the $20,000+ we just spent on our yard. Honestly, just unexpectedly and disappointingly poor customer service that was not what I was expecting after my research into the company and definitely not what the sales rep pitched to me when we were closing the deal. I'm hoping to get another contractor here in the next week or two to fix this (I've given up thinking Lone Star will make this right) and am probably running to the store tomorrow to buy some manual sprinklers since none of my lawn has been watered since late April. Such a let down from the excitement we were enjoying after the install was completed.

I view myself as an avid gardener but my lawn has always been a source of headache. I was tired of the weeds, the yellow patches from my dog and the overall appearance of my Grass not matching my flower beds. Not only did I find Ideal Turf to be very knowledgeable but exceptionally friendly when calling to inquire about their product. My yard last year looked fantastic compared to my neighbors and my grass looked greener than ever! My neighbor, who is using a competitor, questioned the competitor as to "why does her yard look better than mine?" Needless to say, she's thinking of switching.
