Staff here are what make this place go from good to great. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. They seem to enjoy working here. Rooms are well maintained. There is a Cafe on site where you can get lunch and dinner. Only ate there once but it seemed good enough. Parking spots are a little tight and you only get one so if you have two cars you will need to find another place to park. Office has coffee all day and my sister preferred to get it from there rather than make it in the room so that was a plus. Office also has games you can borrow and we took advantage of that one night. I would happily stay here again. It was a nice relaxing week.

Fitness center is a bit outdated, but has an elliptical, couple of treadmills and some weight equipment. There is a great little restaurant attached to the back of the hotel that you can walk to through the hotel. When in the area, it's a great choice. However, during the prime season it's out of my budget unfortunately.

A lot of good and a lot of odd! Let's start with what I liked: + Great amenities for a beach vacay! Indoor and outdoor pools, super quick access to the beach front, ample parking for guests, nice sized rooms with a couple of different layouts, that you can explore on their website which is helpful. + Amazing location - quick walk to downtown area, easy beach walk, and close to restaurants and wedding venues. Pretty sure it was exclusively wedding guests staying here while we were attending. + Decent in-room amenities as well - we LOVE a hotel with makeup remover wipes. Free wifi, etc. The not so great: + Rooms are pretty bare bones and drab from a decor perspective. Haven't have an upgrade since the 80s? + The payment process was so wacky. You can "cash" in on a deal if you're willing to jump through hoops (at least in a not so busy weekend in October), like sending in a cash deposit, paying in cash upon arrival...and then getting a $50 visa gift card back. It was bizarre. I think finding accommodations here can be a challenge, so they'll continue to get away with it..but dang. Any seasoned traveller would say "WTF" to this process. + Like other reviewers have said, staff isn't super warm or welcoming. A fine option if you're looking for a cozy spot on the beach!

Each bedroom had two queen beds and a tv. The room was spacious and the shower was nice until we found out our water wasn't getting warm no matter how far towards heat we turned our shower handle. Our room was cold (which was okay - I enjoy sleeping in the cold) but the air conditioner was very loud and was constantly turning on. I thought my bed was comfortable and the bathrooms were nice. There was plenty of parking surrounding the hotel and lots of seats outside around the patio. I didn't mind staying at Desert Sands and it was more affordable than other options in the area. We didn't spend too much time in the room during our 2 night stay, but it wouldn't have been a big deal if I had to spend a little extra time in our room. It felt/looked clean. This was my first time in Avalon and I don't know when I'll be back but I would consider staying here again (as long as my shower had hot water lol).

Both the room and bathroom were very spacious. The bathroom had two sinks which was nice when getting ready. The room felt like it was thoroughly clean and smelled pleasant. The building itself was well-maintained and the Victorian aesthetic was preserved nicely. A small downside is that because of the building's age, noise cancelation is non-existent. We could clearly hear the people next door and directly above us. Overall, a great value.

The woman at the front desk was very sweet, friendly, and helpful. My fiance and I stayed at the Brittany. This is the first room as soon as you come up the steps to the right. The room was a nice size, had a renovated bathroom, nice hardwood floors, and a beachy feel to it. Very nice! The rooms did not have much insulation (you could hear EVERYTHING throughout the Victorian house). You can hear the people talking next door or across the way, you can hear people going to the bathroom or washing their hands. I felt like my fiance and I had to whisper just to talk to each other. One minor complaint I have is that there is no phone in the room, and therefore, if I have a complaint, there really is no one to address it to. For example, the Inn enforces "quiet hours", however, the only people downstairs at night is security. The drunk people across the way were being so loud and stumbling around at 3:00 AM and I did not know if Security was the one who handled it or not. Then, around 6:30 AM, a little child is SCREAMING to their parents at the landing of the steps (WHICH, AGAIN, MIND YOU, IS RIGHT OUTSIDE OUR ROOM). The children upstairs were also running BACK AND FORTH, BACK AND FORTH for MANY hours of the day and night. It was annoying and kept me up. The blinds in the bathroom were broken in some pieces, and other parts had tape holding it together. As well as tiny stains in the bathtub. All in all, the cosmetics of the Inn don't bother me (they were not significant enough to give me a negative experience), but the CLIENTELE did give me a more negative experience. I think the Inn needs to sound proof the rooms somehow so that way, it won't be as loud. Or STRICTLY enforce quiet hours for not only drunk people, but people with children as well.

There are different styles of units to choose from to suite various vacation needs. There's also a nice outdoor shower for rinsing off the sand. If you're looking for a clean, quiet, and classic beach motel, this is the place. I look forward to coming back!

But when I got there on July 23, the room I was given was not the room I booked online!. The room price per night was $209, the room I was given - my goodness - I wouldn't have paid $209 per night! This room looked like $60 motel room! I was furious. I told the proprietor to return my money for false representation. Long story short, I left, I didn't even unpack. The pictures are true. DON'T stay here, you'll get fleas and who knows what else.
