We are old friends with this resort. We were in 105 this time. Fantastic spot. Quiet, and roomy. We love being on the first floor, although all our spots have had their own advantages. Great shower, comfy bed. We didn't get to hang at the pool this time but as always it looked great. Office staff is always so kind and helpful. We Love How Family Friendly this place is and with three little ones it's super Convenient with the kids as well. We have been visiting this place for years. And have been nicely surprised by the upgrades they have made to the public areas. The pool area is always well maintained and clean. The rooms are undergoing small upgrades beaded in what we can see. Mostly in the kitchen area. Which is nice. Partial upgrades in the bathrooms but they really need to update the green tile and shower. Also I think some of the furniture really needs replacing. The rooms are not as nice as the Icona but feel the pool areas are much better maintained and cleaned. read more

Clean, nice location, decent sized room, all you need for a great beach stay. Now here's our problem, we were only therefor two nights, the first night we get in bed and notice we're being drawn to the middle of the bed making it tough to even get out of the bed. It turns out the boards under the mattress was broken, making the bed dip to the middle. We informed the front desk and were told they'd "make it right". Well no new room, no new bed, so we thought they'd take something off our bill, guess what.....nothing! Very disappointing, we really wanted to like this place, but after this we're not sure we'd go back. read more

The Beachcomber is Avalon/Stone Harbor's best kept secret! The rooms are very nice, and the pool and patio sitting area are just fantastic. I had the pleasure of meeting the new General Manager Gena today. She was incredibly warm, friendly and helpful. I love this place. Our second stay at The Beachcomber Resort was disappointing compared to our first in 2020. Despite improvements to the hotel, we had issues with the service. We requested our room not to be cleaned due to work call commitments and having valuables in the room. It was told to the front desk staff at 830 am and then someone called to confirm this was our request at 10 am. Despite confirming this twice with the staff, our room was serviced anyway. On raising the issue, we faced a rude response from Jennifer who dismissed our concerns as an 'honest mistake'. We felt uncomfortable and upset that our clear instructions were defied and carelessly overlooked by the staff. The manager wasn't in that day and we were promised a call from the manager the very next day again at check out and the manager has yet to contact us. Overall, the staff's disregard for our requests and their poor response to the mistake was frustrating and we'll never be staying here again. ***For others wishing to stay here, please take note there are no safes in the room and no "do not disturb" signs for the door. This could have easily been prevented if this "resort" had door tags and better communication among staff. read more

This resort was in desperate need of updating. Our Murphy bed was extremely dirty underneath and there was hair in the shower. The room had a musty smell. The room was close to the beach and had a nice size kitchen for families. The hot water in the shower was good and had good water pressure. read more

The pool and hot tub are great. My daughter never wanted to leave the pool and even preferred it over the beach! The room/suite was very clean. The room was a little out-dated but still nicely decorated and well maintained. Each room/suite is owned by an individual so you will always have a different style. There was practically zero noise at night which is huge for me since I'm a light sleeper. Staff was very friendly prior to arrival as well as when we were staying. The free daily slushies were a hit with my family! We loved that the beach is not even a 5 minute walk. We had such an amazing stay that we intend on returning for years to come! read more

Most uncomfortable and cheep bed I've ever slept on- there was a giant sink hole in the middle. Now I need to save up some money to pay for a chiropractor. Decorative pillows had all kinds of stains on them. Pros: nice staff and it's on the nicest island in NJ! read more

My friends and their family have been staying there for years. We just went this past weekend. Our room was awesome beautiful kitchen area nice sectional everything was extremely clean. You should bring your own pillows and blankets if you want big pillows other ones that we did have were comfortable. I love Avalon New Jersey and if I have to stay there I definitely want to stay at the beachcomber. I just got home and I'm already booking another weekend. Great staff too!!! read more

Love the Beachcomber for what it is - a relatively inexpensive family friendly place. Heated pool is great with children. And a block from the beach. Rooms vary greatly. Most are somewhat dated but certainly comfortable and clean. Check their web site for floor plans. Be sure to check on deals und-week and off-peak - they're seriously good deals. read more

The Beachcomber is a comfortable, clean, pleasant place to stay for a shore vacation. It is not new but it is pretty nice and, for many people we talked to, an institution that they return to again and again. It is a short block to a beautiful beach. Walking distance to bars and restaurants (without the noise). As a real bonus, it has a really nice and pretty private pool area in the 'courtyard'. Many folks just visit the beach and hang out at the pool. They even have a couple of BBQ grills there. The units do vary in decor. It appears many have been upgraded by their (individual) owners and some are really terrific. They literally change year to year (as do owners since they are often for sale). None of them are bad, at worst maybe a little dated. Decor is a matter of taste too, but it isn't all 'hotel standard' either. The second and third floors require walking stairs but they are not very steep or high. Note that these units are CONDOS ( there are a few different sizes) with small kitchens, adequate for simple meal prep.This helps the budget a lot since dining out at all meals in this town can get a bit pricey (BUT there are places that are reasonable if you look hard). There are no 'hotel services' other than maid service (no on site food service, room service etc). The staff has been here for many years. They take pride in the place and the service. Overall results are usually excellent. The Beachcomber is not trendy nor elegant, but it is homey, comfortable, clean, and well managed. Oh, and Avalon-Stone Harbor is a step above most Jersey Shore towns (actually 2 steps above many of them). This does tend to result in higher prices than some other places, but in-season there are not enough rooms on the island. Off seasons can be a bargain and for many folks, the best time to visit. read more

Buyer beware when booking this hotel. I book hotels pretty frequently as I travel quite a bit so if I'm pretty certain I will be going somewhere I book a hotel without question because I know I can cancel with 24-48 hours notice with no concerns. Not at Beachcomber - I booked about a week and a half prior to my planned trip to the beach for a weekend getaway and had an unexpected event come up the week prior. I tried to cancel 4 days prior to my reservation but was informed that I would still have to pay the full amount for the reservation. Shame on me for not reading the fine print when booking but their policy is 50% refund if cancelled 15 days or more prior, 0% refund if cancelled after that or no show. (In other words, once you book you will never receive a 100% refund no matter how far in advance you cancel.) I've never once come across a policy like this. When I called to refute I was told there were no exceptions, they would not budge at all. I frequent Avalon and Stone Harbor in the summers but this hotel will never get my business. read more

Fantastic few nights with the family. We stayed a couple of nights in the tipis, in mid-April, and loved it. It was early in the season, so no crowds at all. Staff was very helpful and very welcoming. Prices are very reasonable and it's just far enough away from home that we can disconnect and enjoy some good family time. Buyer beware! Booked an Apartment room thru Booking.com website. About 5 room type options show as available to choose from - I pick Apartment with 2 queen beds and 1 sofa bed. 5 mins later I get called by the manager "just to let me know" how the reservation came through: one queen bed and a sofa bed. Tells me they don't have any more of the room types I chose available for my dates but, "we don't have to deal with that site anymore and for the same price I can put you in a room with 2 double beds and a sofa bed." Ummmm... no. That room was listed over $200 cheaper on Booking.com. A stressful start to our upcoming family vacation. read more

My recent stay at Beachcomber resort was an extremely pleasant experience. The place is very charming, and ideally located just one block from the ocean. The room was clean and equipped with two flat screen TVs, a DVD player, and a stereo. The bed was comfortable, and the hotel was quiet and peaceful at night. I had booked the 5 day vacation the day of my arrival not thinking it would be this easy, being that it is the peak of summer vacation time. I must say that I was extremely pleased with the front desk...specifically Stephanie Turner (General Manager), and Lauren Kern (front desk). Lauren was able to get me a room on extremely short notice, and was very accomodating . Stephanie was very helpful during my stay, and went out of her way to make sure that I was enjoying myself....oh, and she is quite attractive also (smile). I highly recommend this place...A+. read more

I've always liked this spot! Old school New Jersey, with a few touches of modern. The pool has been greatly improved since I first visited here in 2006, and they've made an effort to bring up the experience with propane grills, a hot tub, and a TV for families and friends (set behind a fancy bar counter). The downside is that each unit is individually owned, and so one place could be upgraded to today's standards, other may not. But ask the Staff and request a specific unit, should you find one that meets your needs. Ground level is good for anyone, but there is no elevator for those that struggle with steps. Only a block to the beach, and in the other direction, a block to the bay. At least three decent restaurants are working eyesight of the place. All in all, I'd say it's worth a visit. read more

Just got back from a last minute stay at the Beachcomber. We stayed in the room with a Murphy bed and pull out couch. We booked last minute after a hotel in OC couldn't find our reservation and left us stranded! The beachcomber staff was extremely helpful and nice when assisting us with our reservation. I was going to book via hotels tonight for one of our nights for a cheaper rate but the hotel was able to match the rate so we didn't have to move rooms. The room itself was a fine size for 2 people. Our room was an older style but had everything we needed- a couch, TV, little kitchen table and chairs, small refrigerator with freezer, sink, microwave, etc. There were small stains or marks on some of the linens but I was able to overlook that. If we were to come back again, I would bring my own sheet, pillow and blanket as the ones provided were thin and small. The hotel was super close to the beach, just a very short walk. The pool and hot tub were AMAZING and relaxing!!! They are open until 11 pm. They also had a fire pit in the pool area. After a hot day on the beach, it was nice to come back to a cool pool and at the end of the night it was nice to relax by the fire pit and in the hot tub with the jets. The hotel was also conveniently located a short drive from either downtown Avalon or Stone Harbor. Overall, we had a great stay and I would definitely come back based on their rates and the accommodating staff! read more

Never got the chance to stay. I booked a room several weeks in advance of a soccer tournament being held in the area. Unfortunately the soccer tournament was forced to cancel because of insufficient registrations. When I called to ask for the hotel to refund my full deposit, over a month in advance of my stay, they refused, citing their policy, which was communicated. However, given the utter lack of willingness to work with me ( and likely all of the other families in the same situation) I will not give this property a second chance. By the way, the weekend that I had to cancel is Columbus Day weekend. One might assume high likelihood they will rebook easily. read more

I took my daughter and three friends to the Beachcomber Resort in Avalon, NJ August 2017. Unanimous decision , we will be back again this August 2018 ! We luv'd having the option of the pool versus the beach and dining in rather than eating out all week ! Morning coffee and an evening glass of wine pool side, truly made my vacation exceptional. We stayed at the here this summer and called and asked if our room could be ready early. Response was non-committal. Ok those are the rules. Upon arriving, we asked politely again, but no assurance other than they would request our unit be made up ASAP. As we watched from the pool, our unit was the last one cleaned. Oh well. The big problem was the very noisy AC and the amount of light one gets in the rooms because the windows are poorly or not completely covered. So not good for sleeping. Unit itself was OK, but 1970-ish and on the small side. There is almost no shade at the pool and only 1 uni-sex bathroom at the pool level. There is no drink or food, except for vending machines and the "lobby" is about as big as my kitchen. There is no elevator. While we were waiting a couple asked for beach passes (which are advertised as free) which drew the response that they had no more, and they would have to wait until someone returned from the beach. At $325 per night, it "ain't cheap"! read more

My fiancé and I spent 2 days at the Beachcomber in a one bedroom unit which could comfortably sleep six. The unit was beautifully furnished and immaculately clean. The bed and linens were very comfortable. The courtyard looked brand new with a nice pool, large hot tub, and huge gas fire pit. The courtyard is built for outdoor entertainment with two of Avalon's hot spots (Windrift and Icona), as well as the beach, only a block away. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the rental rate was very reasonable. We will definitely stay here again. read more

I had wondered why the reviews for the Beachcomber were all over the place until we checked in. Each unit is individually owned, and there are no real standards required for each room from the establishment. Therefore, it's more accurate to review a room as opposed to the resort as a whole. We started off in room 317 (had gotten in past the office's hours; they'd left us a key), and spent a very uncomfortable night on an extremely uncomfortable bed. The furnishings were fine, but dated. The bed was rock hard, had no pillow top, and every movement from my significant other shook the whole bed. The staff was very helpful in the morning though, and gave us the choice of 2 other available rooms. 107 smelled like cat urine. We took 117 instead. Nice furnishings, comfortable bed. Traffic noise was drowned out by the wall unit fans. It worked out well. There's no exhaust fan in the bathroom, which made the unit a bit humid as we were both trying to get ready for a wedding. We didn't get a chance to take advantage of the pool/hot tub area, but other guests seemed to enjoy it. Overall, we'd stay again, provided we could choose a specific room ahead of time. read more

Stayed here for a long weekend, and overall had a good experience. Though the room was a bit dated, it was clean, had a kitchenette with small fridge, plates, dishwasher and was relatively inexpensive when compared to other places to stay in the area. It was also conveniently located close to shops, restaurants, and just a block away from the beach. Would stay here again. read more

Wow, this place has been kept a secret! We had a one bedroom with a new kitchen and bathroom. The pool area is so pretty with flowers, lounging chairs and tables with umbrellas to relax and have lunch/dinner. It's only a block from the beach with restaurants all around. Our kids played at the large play ground that was just across the street. It was clean and the people in the office were so helpful. We've booked another vacation there later this year! read more

I did not get a chance to stay. I had to cancel my reservation because of a family emergency. They refunded my deposit immediately. I work in the tourism industry and fully understood their cancellation policy and read reviews that they refuse refunds. I expected to be charged, but thought it wouldn't hurt to call and ask for refund. They were very nice, I will book with them in the future. read more
