This is a special pastry shop tucked away in a little corner of Alexandria that is worth a visit…read more They offer wonderful pastries, cakes, and tarts in small, medium and large sizes in many different flavors. I am quite sure they are using butter too as they make their own croissants as well. They offer the best ham and cheese sandwich on a buttery flaky croissant. Made with a thick slab of ham, cheese , leaf lettuce and tomato, all for the the modest price of $9.50 or so. Recently when I could not get their ham and cheese sandwich I went to another sandwich shop thattsupposedly had a highly rated ham and cheese sandwich . For $17, I got a panini sandwich with deli style ham and cheese and shredded lettuce and tomato . No comparison in taste . Hollin Hall sandwich was far superior and cost half of the competitor. NOTE: At the present time (June 2026) the sandwiches are NOT made to order. You need to call in 1 to 2 days before to ask them to make it for you and coordinate pickup with the staff. A neighborhood gem that is worth checking out!

Despite having lived in the vicinity for several years I only made my first visit here very…read morerecently. As far as ambience and service go, I think Hollin Halls Pastry Shop is fine. I also liked that the display cases have a wide variety of attractive goods for sale. I came here for a couple chocolate chip cookies. JP got the pineapple upside-down cake. Honestly and unfortunately, this was one of the poorest chocolate chip cookies I've ever eaten,. The chocolate chips were small and rather sparse. The texture of the cookie was odd; it was a combination of soggy and crispy. When later I put one in the microwave for a mere 15 seconds, it fell completely apart. (As an aside, the Richmond Hwy Costco sells chocolate chip cookies in their deli that are quite good.) I thought though that pineapple upside-down cake was good, though the cake could have stood more pineapple flavor. Bonus points for Hollin Hill Pastry Shop having milk for sale. I mean, how can you not have a cookie without a glass of milk?!
