The japchae on the last visit did not appear to be the said dish. The kalbi also didnt appear to be spare ribs. When we asked, we were told they removed the bones. Also didn't serve any banchan. A great family run restaurant that has fresh delicious food. We've been going there for years, and always really enjoyed the food and the staff. Now, I am super picky about what I consider "authentic" and "delicious" when it comes to Korean food. Having lived in NYC for way too long, and enjoying the K town way too much, have to say, Ichiban is very good. I know the restaurant serves Japanese food, but I get Korean dishes at Ichiban. So yes, there are some generic non Korean dishes on the menu (guilty of ordering crab rangoons too...). One of my favorite sushi restaurants in Rhode Island, especially when I lived in Cranston. It was one of the first sushi restaurants that opened up in town and it was actually the first place I tried sushi in! The service was always good and the owners are friendly. They make sure to swing by each table and ask how the patrons were doing. They serve Korean and Japanese food. They also have a full bar and serve delicious mixed cocktails. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and there's a parking lot right outside; there's also on-street parking. I've tried most of their sushi rolls and I'm never disappointed. I also love their bulgogi and their bibimbap. We always order steamed shumai or squid salad as an appetizer. The squid salad was so flavorful and complex. The most recent dish I ordered and I really liked was the unagi(eel) over rice. I really love their food and service; it's definitely one of the best sushi spots in Rhode Island. read more

A lot of the patrons were Asian, which is also a good sign. Our two servers were AMAZING, energetic and on point with water (which is critical for spicy deliciousness!). My gf had spicy scallop roll and stir fry squid (which I stole some of) and she loved it (despite burning her tongue on hot tea earlier in the day) Plenty of street parking when school is not in but they also have a private lot. Amazing place for Korean/Japanese food, came here with slightly low expectations but ended leaving quite happy. It's located not exactly in the center of Cranston, good amounts of parking available. It doesn't seem like an upscale place or a chain restaurant or a hibachi kind of place, instead it looks like a family owned joint. Everyone is super friendly and do their best to make sure your food is good. Got the scorpion bowl which was pretty good, asked them to not make it sweet; we were maybe expecting a slightly bigger bowl but good nonetheless. Coming to the main part, their food is amazing. Got the dragon roll which was absolutely delicious and looked great too. Also got the pork bulgogi, slightly spicy but very nicely done. Lastly the dumpling soup was the best of them all, the winter weather might have made it taste better but the food was really good. Overall, def 4.5 stars, im definitely coming back here, only 10 min away. Best Korean food and best sushi we have had in the Providence area. This unassuming place is run by the nicest people. Being half Korean, this is the closest thing to mom's home cooking I have found. We have dined in and carried out and the food is always prepared with care. We love all their sushi rolls, the miso soup, and the yukaejang (spicy beef soup). Jajangmyun (black bean noodles) was also good. They actually put pork meat in it which other places cheap out on and don't overload it with grease. Prices are great for quality and portion. I am in Rhode Island on business. Whenever I travel to an area I'm not familiar with, as I am not familiar with Warwick, I check with Yelp and look for a local business but I can support. I love sushi and I love Japanese food. I eat a lot of it. So I was very pleased to find ichiban on Yelp and highly rated. Once again Yelp did not disappoint. The reviews were spot on. It is a hole in the wall, as I drove right past it, but it is clean, the food was outstanding and the ownership is very friendly and inviting. I got the soft shell crab tempura which was good and I got a sushi combination dinner that had 20 pieces on it. It was excellent. The sushi was the right temperature so you know they just made it and it wasn't saying in the refrigerator someplace. When it's cold I dream of kalbi tang. When there's a Nor'easter, I even daydream of kalbi tang melting all the snow off my driveway so I don't need to shovel. But the problem is I love Ichiban's kalbi tang so much, I'd probably be tempted to pick up the now-frozen kalbi tang, suck on the dirty meat popsicles and get brain freeze/lasting neurological effects from the gasoline/oil residue from my driveway. Ichiban's kalbi tang is THAT dangerous. Yum, I love Ichiban. DISCLAIMER: I normally look at a restaurant for all its offerings as a whole, but I have extremely picky standards for sushi. Frankly, the sushi here is American-style sushi and falls in the "good for Rhode Island" category for me. BUT. The good news is, you're in Rhode Island! And Rhode Island is in the USA! We had the following: Ocean's Eleven, Dancing Eel, Bibimbop, Salmon Avocado, Cracker Jack, Calamari appetizer and Tempura appetizer. Overall the food was excellent. We shared and tried some of everything, family style. I wasn't a huge fan of the Dancing Eel because the sauce wasn't eel sauce. Instead it was some other sweet sauce that was way too sweet. I've been here twice, most recently to celebrate my birthday. The staff are amazing - they take a lot of time to make sure you are happy with your food and to answer any questions you may have. My friend and I split a scorpion bowl, which was delicious, and we all split several rolls. The rolls were really good. Ichiban means "number one" in Japanese. This family operated Gansett Avenue eatery in Cranston most definitely lives up to their namesake. As soon as you are greeted by your server, you know that you are in for a great experience. First, you are graciously presented with small complimentary samples of house-made favorites such as namasu, kimchi and slices of monkfish cake. The Japanese namasu-a lightly marinated daikon & carrot salad-is delicious simplicity at its best. After sampling the chef's family recipe for kimchi, I now understand why kimchi is the national dish of Korea. One word? Addicting! Ichiban's panfried gyoza are incredible! The chef prepares these delectably succulent pork belly dumplings exactly the way he watched his grandmother make them for him as a child. Literally one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. The shrimp tempura was crisp yet very light, allowing you to taste the briny flavor of the shrimp. The robust house-made tempura sauce was a perfect balance of tangy & sweet. My wife and I went here for he first time today. We really enjoyed our dinner here. The outside of the building isn't super attractive, but they inside is very nice and clean. I had the Nigiri Sushi Deluxe, which was very good. I liked that it was also authentic prepared sushi and not the garbage paste like sushi some buffet chain restaurants serve. My wife had their thick homemade noodles with vegetables and chicken, which she really enjoyed. It was a Friday afternoon, so it was pretty quiet at the time we went, and service was very fast. The gentleman who waited on us appeared to be the owner and was very friendly. An older woman, who I believe was his Mom, brought over our drinks and food. She was cute, didn't seem to speak a lot of English but was very nice. It's a very comfy place, the food was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. Driving by this place you may be reluctant to stop by because it sort of looks like a hole in the wall. I ordered edamame here for the very first time like probably 15 years ago now and have been hooked ever since! They offer u a complimentary plate on your first visit and It's all pretty good IMO- but not something I'd specifically order! I love their sushi rolls and their plating is absolutely beautiful! Some may say the building is in shambles and although it could use an update; I like the small intimate and quaint setting and I love that you can leave your chopsticks here. I also always love admiring the cool styles of them! My friend couldn't stop raving about their soup and I see it's a theme for others who frequent this spot! The problem with cheap sushi is that as you eat it, you wonder what the negative effects will be after the meal. A stomach ache, paralysis, possibly death are all on the table. We had dinner here with our toddler the other night and enjoyed the service and the food which was rich, flavorful and beautifully presented. The sushi is fresh and the curry Katsu don gravy was delicious, protein was crispy but a little dry.
