We ended up using some of the South African Rand we purchased from the Exchange as soon as we arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa. When flying to South Korea and I exchanged US dollar for Korean won. The difference in transfer rate was astonishing. When I showed them the exchange rate on Google, they informed me that Google only shows what the exchange rate is for wiring. How does $300usd turn into 300,000 korean won when it suppose to be 395,000. This is a difference of $78USD this doesn't include the 12.95 that they add on for commission. My wife exchanged $750 USD for Mexican pesos on 2/12/22, when the spot exchange rate was 4.9 cents per peso. ICE charged her 6.4 cents per peso, a **30% markup**, PLUS a $10 transaction fee. I didn't check her receipt until we got back from the trip. They ripped her off for close to $175 USD. I'd accept a 5-10% premium, but 30% is beyond absurd. Just use your ATM card overseas. When I returned to exchange my left over euros for dollars they purchased my Euros at a rate of 9 0.91.
