Wow, I'm so glad I happened upon this place tonight! I was a bit peckish on my way home from visiting a friend, but at 8.30pm on a Sunday I was fully prepared for the eventuality that I would probably have to go to McDonalds... then I saw loads of people sitting at little cafe tables on the pavement and realised there was a place that was open! The tiny cafe I initially went into only had sandwiches in the way of savoury food, but he pointed me across the road and said they were the same business, and thus I found the majestic glory of ICE & SLICE. It was buzzing with people, and music, and the guy behind the counter gave good service and recommended the vegetatrian pizza as his favourite (it was tasty!). The real savoury treat though was the potato and mozarella croquette - it was ginormous, melty and gooey gorgeousness! *drool*. Next time I am definitely going to try the gelato... I'm a sucker for gelato so it'll be dangerous to live so nearby to this amazing, open late even on Sundays, cafe. The only thing I will say is that unfortunately I was made to feel a little uncomfortable by the clientele - all young, 'cool' people with their friends; I felt like I was being judged in a similar way to that imagined when someone goes into a local country pub for the first time and stands out like a sore thumb. Almost to the extent that I felt like I had walked into a private party - but I hadn't. That atmosphere was a real shame, but I took my food to go so it didn't affect me for long. And the pricing was very reasonable too! read more
