These guys charged me 500+ dollars to refill coolant. The repair guy was nice, but tried to get me to buy a new air conditioner unit instead of reparing. He claimed the R22 was 450 dollars for 1.5 lbs of coolant. I will do some research and if this seems accurate I will change this ranking. Right now I feel as if I was raked over the coals by a scam. Are furnace was constant cycling during the dreaded polar vortex and not keeping the house warm. At 20+ years, I feared the worst for our furnace. Our technician quickly identified the issue and rather than try and sell us a new furnace, they made adjustments that they said would get us back in shape. It worked. This is the second time Ibbotson has been out and both times, Ibbotson addressed the issue for far less than we feared we'd have to pay. We're not kidding ourselves. We understand we are on borrowed time with this furnace but rather than exploit the situation we had a good, educational talk with our technician about ultimately replacing our system and given honest answers and solid options. It's universal for businesses to make mistakes, but taking responsibility is not... On a cold day in February, I called Ibbotson's for help with my 46 year old furnace. The technician spent two long hours diagnosing the issue, ultimately concluding that my ecobee thermostat was faulty. I purchased and installed a new thermostat based on this assessment. Unfortunately, a week later, my furnace stopped working again. This time, the issue was identified as a faulty blower motor, indicating that the original diagnosis was incorrect and the thermostat replacement was unnecessary. When I contacted Ibbotson's to request a refund for the thermostat, I was informed that they do not offer refunds on installed parts. While I understand the company's policy, I was disappointed that the initial diagnosis was inaccurate, resulting in an unnecessary expense. The two-hour diagnostic period, coupled with the service call fee, resulted in a significant cost. While I appreciate the prompt response to my initial call, I believe there's room for improvement in the diagnostic process. Accurate and thorough assessments are crucial for providing customers with effective solutions. I hope this feedback can be used to enhance the quality of service provided in the future. read more

Our AC went kaput. Had another company come out, they said the condensor was bad on our 11-year-old unit, and replacement would be about $4,500. We called Ibbotson for a second opinion. My AC went down just before the heat wave this weekend. I was able to get someone out Friday to look at the unit and was told needed a new one - it was very old. We had two sets of furnace and air conditioning units, one in the basement and one in the second-floor attic, and they were 25 years old. About 1-1/2 month ago, the second-floor A/C unit started malfunctioning. Sometimes it worked well but sometimes it blew out warm air. We had different HVAC companies attempting to fix the problem but to no avail. Since all the furnace and AC units were 25 years old, we decided to replace all of them so we would not have to worry about an equipment breakdown when we most need them. After doing some research, we settled on the Lennox AC and furnace. We went to the Lennox website and identified its authorized dealers near us. There are 8 Lennox dealers in our neighborhood, and we looked them up in Yelp, Google, and Angi. We ranked them by their ratings, and invited the top-3 rated dealers to our house to look at our existing equipment and discuss the replacement plan. Of the 3 HVAC companies coming to our house, Ibbotson provided the most competitive bid. Rich Okolita was the salesman and he gave us good advice. He was very diligent in following up on the questions that I had on the proposal. Contrary to some other companies who just wanted to push through the sale, Rich would point out what works and what doesn't work. Rich is very professional and knowledgeable. After finalizing the pricing, we scheduled the replacement for July 13 and 14. Derek led a team of 4 other technicians working in the attic, the basement, as well as outside (for the AC condenser). They were able to finish replacing the second-floor AC unit by the end of the first day so we would not have any interruption of AC. For the two days that they worked in our house, my observation is that Derek has good work ethic and he is a very responsible person. Under Derek's leadership (he himself worked in the attic, the hottest place in the house), the crew did a good job. It has been exactly one month since the new AC system was installed, and it is working well (knock on wood). Ibbotson has good internal and external communication. The lady picking up the phone is always pleasant, a very important first impression for the company. After I talked to Rich for the first time and made an appointment for him to come to our house, I needed to reschedule it. But it was already after office hours so I sent a message through the company's web site. I got a call back the next morning from a gentleman called Rob saying that Rich had been out in the field and Rob discussed with me the scheduling situation. Two days before the replacement, I requested Rich to ask the crew to put on masks when they worked inside our house since we were still concerned about Covid (only in the living areas, not in the attic or outside). When Derek and his team showed up at our house on the first day, they all had their masks on. On the second day when they finished the job, Derek was in the basement explaining to me and my wife the operation of the new equipment and he still had his mask on. This is the real "customer first" mentality. Finally, Ibbotson offers an interest-free six-month payment plan for equipment replacement. Customers can pay for the project in six equal monthly installments by credit card. They can also pay by cash (i.e., checks) over six months and get a 2 percent discount. I had been running several pieces of high end machinery throughout the summer of 21 that presented huge cooling challenges for my home. The technician that Ibbotson sent out was well trained in his craft and resourceful. He ran several tests quickly without wasting time and verified my cooling problem was not related to typical faults that come with overlooked maintenance. He checked the parameters of my AC unit and dialed in the performance and recharged it to the optimal level. I had a technician come out to look at our furnace and was told that our motor was bad and the part would cost $625, the install would cost $79.00 and then labor was $35 1/4 hour starting from the time the tech stepped foot into my house and including the time it took him to leave my house go back to the shop and get the part. I was met with resistance when I asked what the part number was, after they gave me the part number for the replacement part, I looked up the cost of the part and it was $200, so they had over a 200% mark-up. When I asked for an explanation, they told us they weren't going to fix it and would just charge us $120 for the labor and time to diagnose. If you're going to have that large of a mark-up at least have the ability to give the reason why. Also, charging for the time it takes the tech to retrieve the correct part from their shop is ridiculous. read more

I had my furnace and A/C replaced fall 2024. The process was seamless. The installers arrived as scheduled both days, took precautions inside the house not to damage anything while removing old units, and did an excellent job installing into the existing duct system AND did not leave a mess. They were tolerant of a plethora of questions we had regarding the new system functionality, filter changes, etc. The Service Dept on their own accord contacted us for a follow up for the A/C system as it was too cool last fall to assure the system was properly charged and functional. The day had to be in the 70's and we had a stretch of days in March 2025 in the high 70's. they showed up as scheduled and did not tear up the garden. These were the second systems Ibbotson installed, the prior being 35 years ago, and we have always used them for annual system maint. since that time. For us, we have had a solid track record and will continue to use them moving forward. read more

I have used Ibbotson for many years and am always quick to provide their info to anyone asking for a good heating and a/c company! I have 2 houses on my property and they have handled repairs, maintenance and installation for a/c and heating over the years. All their technicians are great - nice and willing to explain things in detail and answer questions. Same with the office staff for booking appts, dispatch and sales people. I just had them out for cleaning/maintenance service on my boiler. All went well, was another 5 star rated service! In Nov of 2023 I had to have a new furnace installed (by Ibbotson) in one of the houses. A month or so after installation, there was an issue with the transformer blowing. Ibbotson came out replaced the transformer, all costs were covered under warranty. Same thing happened again about 10 days later. Technician came out again, replaced bad transformer for which they again covered under warranty. This technician took some time to look at some of the electrical wiring (since this was a recurring problem) and determined that the furnace s/b on its own 120v line, it was currently connected thru something with the kitchen. I had previously had 2 separate electricians out to look at things (which Ibbotson recommended I do). Neither of them found the issue that the last Ibbotson tech found...... Once that problem was fixed, there were no more issues with transformer on new furnace! This is just 1 example of why I will always use Ibbotson and recommend them to anyone who asks. I had what I thought was a very simple system replacement. Ibbotson came out for a second opinion on a furnace inspection after our usual provider claimed we needed an urgent furnace replacement due to holes in the heat exchanger. They quoted $11,000 for a new furnace. Ibbotson found NO holes or cracks in either the primary or secondary heat exchangers. They also quoted $5,000 less for the EXACT furnace in case we wanted to install a new furnace since ours is reaching the end of its service time. As senior citizens, maybe we looked like an easy mark to the first company, which we had been using for over 30 years. We'll be calling Ibbotson going forward. read more

Our furnace was making very strange noises and not blowing heated air consistently. Technician stated we needed a new inducer motor. He stated that the motor and parts would be about $250 plus labor. However after the work was completed, the total for the parts was $355. Even though he (Jesse) told me he had just replaced the exact same inducer motor assembly in his own house, somehow he didn't know what parts were needed for the repair until after he finished our repair. Additionally, the time to do the repair increased from about an hour to 1.75 hours because the space in our furnace room was "so small" it took him longer. So the estimated labor charge went from $140 (one hour) to $245. Needless to say, both the parts and labor were inflated in my opinion. I'm somewhat surprised and disappointed that Ibbotson would approve of this. I didn't think a written estimate would be necessary with Ibbotson, but apparently it is going forward. read more

Long term customer with both boiler (heat) and dual A/C units. Each year in late summer/early fall I have both the boiler and dual A/C units cleaned and serviced. Lately, after having annual service, we end up with expensive service calls to have the equipment we paid to service work. Last year it was the boiler. Today, it happened again. First day above 85 degrees and turned on A/C. Nothing. We have a service agreement and I'm told we'll get service tomorrow morning - so much for a service agreement with a priority service clause. My parents used Ibbotson for more than 40 years and I've used them now for more than 10 years. Somewhere along the line either the name of the business was sold off or the new generation of owners don't run the business like they used to. Either way, it's not the Ibbotson company imy family has relied on for decades. We will see how things go tomorrow. After this, it appears to be time for a new service provider. They can't be counted on when you need them and I must now question the quality of the service technicians they hire. It's become just too coincidental that everything "breaks down" after annual servicing. read more

Despite Ibbotson being very busy, Aaron was able to send someone to my house within a few hours. I have been a costumer for at least 3 years and every time I have been in contact with Aaron, it has been nothing short of a pleasant and positive experience. His customer service is top notch and makes me feel like a VIP. Andy O was the service person Aaron scheduled to come to my house. Andy arrived and was able to identify the problem very quickly. He showed me what was causing the problem with my air conditioner and explained it in a way that I could understand. Andy explained various options from charging the refrigerant to replacing my 20+ year old air conditioner. I, in no way, felt pressure to make any decisions and Andy was happy to answer my questions. Check other options. Our house needed a new HVAC ( emergency ). We called Ibbotson local company too installed a new furnace. They told us that they don't have time for us because they have to serve there's customers first. Like I mentioned it was a emergency ( our level of CO2 was over 150 ) and fire department shut out our gas. A technician , Ron even hanged up the phone on us. He was not helpful or professional . We have a several quotes per hr. First was $175/hr , but when I called second time directly to the office it was $145 Very disappointed. read more
