I went last year as a camper and it was not fun. my counselors were gone almost every day and the…read moreother counselors had to sub in and take care of us. one of the counselors (I had 2 in my cabin) was super uptight and rude towards all the girls in my cabin. for example she yelled at my friend for leaving her bunk light on on accident. she was very unsupportive and the counselors seemed to care more about hanging out with each other than taking care of us. I didn't feel comfortable and happy in my cabin and was actually waiting to go home at the end. it says on the website that you can see your friends from other cabins and sit with them at mealtime, but I was barely allowed to go talk to them real quick then come back to my table. you can see them if you somehow tell them to come to the same daily activity as you. but the worst part was one rainy day we were playing bingo inside and I guess my counselors got bored because they were telling me a bunch of different times that certain squares had been called, so that I would get a failed bingo. I stood up and said bingo and obviously it wasn't valid so I just got humiliated while they sat there giggling. it was unnecessary and cruel and I definitely don't recommend this camp to anyone.

BULLYING AND ASSAULT AT CAMP…read more 1 star for activities and food Edit- after a review by the YMCA director in response to my complaint and this review below, they found that "no paperwork existed for this incident" which is very strange. Since then we have connected with the family of the boy who stepped in to help my son and they confirmed this incident. I am shocked that paperwork disappeared but frankly, not surprised... Is this really who you'd trust your child to? And it is pretty expensive as far as camps go... My 10 year-old son attended this camp and, on the way home, told us about his week. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to hear that he was repeatedly bullied by his cabin mates but also his counselor, "Nebula", who seemed to have it out for him. She refused to sign his memento on the last day, told him he couldn't participate in the talent show, berated him at mealtimes, and found fault in everything he did. My kid isn't perfect, but he's friendly, smart, empathetic, and makes friends easily. To make matters worse , he was also physically assaulted by another camper, punched in the face, and bitten in the leg. Another camper intervened (we have confirmation of events from this camper and his family!) and also got punched (This has now been verified by 3 campers!). The kid who assaulted them both didn't get sent home and no one contacted us to let us know of this but eventually, the counselor did intervene, apparently, so there is a record of this at the camp. I'm so frustrated that this was his first camp experience and immediately contacted the camp director, who is addressing this, but I feel that others should be warned. My son says the camp activities were great, but the people were just awful. This is a shocking review from a super positive child, and I feel bad that he spent a week in this toxic environment. If you are thinking you might want to send your child to YMCA Camp Collins, I'd seriously reconsider.

The integrity and the communication are there calming all of our anxieties. We look forward to the next four years and from what I can tell from the people in the community whose children have gone there it has been a blessing. It sounds family friendly, and it appears to me that the academics and the athletics have high standards. Looking forward to it. We are very excited about going to high school here and all that the school offers. Go Bruins!

We had Coach Daniel and Coach Quinn for summer session and now Coach Daniel for fall session. He is one of the nicest humans and so kind to each kid. He does not play favorites and meets every kid where they are at. Mine is very talkative and is always so kind to her. He always remembers her name and makes her feel welcome and special. They all keep amazing boundaries and teach the kids to have good boundaries. She has learned great skills that she even uses in her every day life. They have made soccer fun and accessible to all. I could not have asked for a better introduction to soccer for my daughter. We will be back for winter session, as long as the kiddo wants to keep going!

This park is huge! And it's in the middle of the Flats (okay, it's really in the middle of…read moreMontavilla)! And it's right next door to the Biblical Seminary! Besides the obvious--the community center, the rentable space, and the outdoor swimming pool--this is an enormous and green park that is awesome for huge groups. For example, tonight there were hoards of dudes running around without their shirts on holding hands. From what I gathered, they were practicing rugby...or something. And it's a pretty sweet venue for competitive kickball league games. Even with a few rugby scrums, there was still plenty of room for the outfielders to catch those ubiquitous fly-balls (those bunts were baaaad!). My only gripe(s)? Well, there is hardly any parking. At all. And this was at 8:30 p.m. So we had to drive around the block to park in the residential area. And by "around the block," I mean more like 16 blocks away; what looked like around the block was actually around the bible college. Then by the time we walk to the field's fence, we realize that not only are there no entrances (the one door was chain-locked), but the tall fences have barbed wire on top. What were they protecting the park people from? Holy water? Anyway, so we had to walk around the entire circumference of the field (and it's a big park), until we get back to 82nd, and walk all the way to the back of the field where the diamond was. People! Get more accessible parking!! My blisters say no.

This place was not well planned out when they built it!…read more The biggest problem is that this us a huge busy park. They have team sports like softball and soccer, plus a very popular swimming pool and recreation center. Yet the tiny little parking lot only has maybe 25 spaces. The location is the (very busy) corner of NE 82nd/Glisan. Obviously there's no parking allowed on 82nd and there's no parking allowed on Glisan between 7am-6pm. Crazy!!! So, if you're lucky enough to find parking, this is a decent park, pool and rec center. The gym is huge and there lots of outdoor play equipment for kids.
