My last visit to this clinic was for cleaning and yearly imaging. After cleaning was done dr.Ouyang checked my teeth and said I have two cavities. I was surprised and asked her where they were since I didn't see any cavities. she pointed to the xray image way too fast to get me suspicious. She also was very arrogant and short. I asked the office clerk to email me my images and made an appointment in another clinic for second opinion. I needed to find a new dentist and was so happy I found this place! I was seen in the Hartford office and my experience was wonderful. The front desk associate was helpful and kind. The hygienist was super pleasant and made for a pain free appointment. Dr. Gao was personable and actually involved in the appointment which I feel is not always the case with dentist offices. They don't try and unnecessarily charge you here, and I look forward to my next appointment. read more

I've been coming to the I Smile Dental Studio for about 2 years now. Until recently, I've only needed cleanings - I always go to Cheryl, who I absolutely adore. She's fun, gentle and does a great job. She did some special cleaning work around a lingual bar I have from when I had braces. Yesterday I had to get a filling replaced, so I went in a bit nervous. I've had tons of novocaine throughout my life (90% of my baby teeth had to be pulled because the roots didn't dissolve) and I always remember it pinching. Dr. Tomasi did my replacement and she was AWESOME. Personality-wise she's all business - warm but no small talk. But let me tell you, seriously all I felt when she gave me the novocaine shot was her holding my lip to the side. I'm not exaggerating. No pain whatsoever. She confirmed which style I wanted and drilled out the old filling and replaced it. No pain at all. The hardest part was keeping my mouth open - my jaw got tired but she let me rest it midway through. That and I hate the sound of drills. But it was quick and easy. From walking in to walking out, it took about 30 minutes. My only minor complaint is that when you get a cleaning, you share the room with another person. You're not right next to them so much that you can poke them, but if you look over, you can see them. read more

I've got a huge phobia about dentists but the hygienist (Cheryl) was super awesome, friendly, and understanding. She was very thorough with my teeth, but also gentle. She helped me feel more at ease and relaxed during my visit, and always checked to see if I was uncomfortable or in pain. Honestly, despite some unavoidable minor discomforts, this was the best dental experience I've ever had! I found the actual dentist (Gao) to be a little aloof and unfriendly and didn't spend much time with me at all. But then again, dentists have to put up with people dreading to see them so that can be tough for them. Overall, I recommend this practice for cleanings and basic dental procedures. read more

I was looking for a new local dentist and decided to try out "I smile"for my six month cleaning. They did the cleaning along with a "Full mouth series" of X-rays and a comp. exam, adult prophylaxis.which they billed to my insurance. Note that I have a pretty good insurance (high tier). Normally, when I've gone to a dentist they will call the insurance first to see what's covered or not. Well, I found out later (after receiving a bill for $124) that they were unable to contact the insurance that day and they were having problems getting a hold of them.? I asked why wasn't I informed about this? It would've aided in my decision to have a full mouth series of x-rays or not and I wasn't given that choice. Instead I was blindsided with a bill after the fact. After talking to Sally, I really didn't need the full mouth x-rays. They wanted to do this so they could quote me on having more work done in the future and needed to see how they would go about it with the x-rays. I will be looking for a new dentist once again. Very disappointed with their practice. read more

The dentist Dr. Hernandez was absolutely fantastic! His hygienist and I am sorry I forgot her name, Pamala?, but she was absolutely wonderful as well! The only problem was the receptionist. It took an hour and 10 minutes to pay for a tube of toothpaste and to be told that she was unable to make an appointment for me. While this was occurring my husband was sitting in the car with the dog with the air conditioning running and she knew that. He had to work late into the night to make up the time that he lost from work because of her being so inconsiderate and her passive aggressive style. I will never go to this office again. I had a crown done there by another dentist that failed after three months. I dropped the crown off and asked to speak to the doctor about it and wrote him a long note. He never got back to me. Because the crown failed that Dr. Anderson did I will rate the practice a 3. If you just need your teeth cleaned or you just need a filling I would highly recommend Dr. Hernandez and Pamela. I would give them both a 5. I have not had any other services done by Dr. Hernandez so I cannot evaluate any other work that he has done. He did a very complicated filling and did it in a very caring and professional manner and I was extremely pleased with his work and Pamela's work. They were both extremely personable and professional. read more

The staff and Dentists are all so helpful and fantastic. Very happy with the new owner in the last few years. Great help from the office staff. I needed an emergency extraction and Pat called everywhere to find an opening for me that day. I was never so grateful as the pain I was in was horrendous. Naomi has been the face of the office for a long time. She is so knowledgeable, helpful and so friendly. My hygienist is Chris, cannot say enough about her great work. Always friendly, caring and willing to work with any special requests. Great place. read more

Dr. Gao is the best dentist I have ever had. I get very nervous about the dentist and Dr. Gao sets you at ease. She's funny, personable and compassionate. She let's you know what she's going to do and if it will hurt. She is extremely patient and gentle. I have been seeing her for 2 years and sadly have to move an hour away but I will still make the drive to I Smile Dental Studio b/c of Dr. Gao! read more

This review is based on a crown I had replaced by Dr. Gao. The first appointment was to remove the previous crown and do an impression for the new one. After I left the office and the anesthesia wore off I felt pain in that tooth and told Dr. Gao when I went back for the appointment to have the new crown put in. I told her the pain I was having but she didn't see any issues with the tooth. She sized the crown wrong so she had to do another impression and it was extremely painful. After she took the impression the assistant in the room pointed at something on my tooth to Dr. Gao and that's when she said I needed a root canal. I felt very uneasy that the assistant noticed it before the Doctor. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Christian who does root canals in that office and she did a great job but it takes 2 appointments and it's not fun. I went back to Dr. Gao for the to have the crown put in and it didn't not fit for the second time. She asked if I gagged during the impression insinuating it was my fault it didn't fit. I told her I did not. She did another impression and I had to come back for another appointment. It was very frustrating because the Dr. and the staff never apologized for anything and just said "these things happen". They would not take any accountability no matter how many times I had to come back for follow up appointments. Dr. Gao was able to fit the crown on the 3rd attempt. After insurance, it cost my $800 for the crown and $250 for the root canal and an additional 4 appointments which means 4 times away from work. I am no longer a patient there. read more

I called I Smile Dental Studio when I was experiencing sudden serious pain in my tooth. They got me in right away and I say Dr. Michaelson. I am very nervous at the dentist but everyone from Naomi at the front desk, Maria the dental assistant to Dr. Michaelson handled me so compassionately! I was overwhelmed with their kindness. I have had some traumatic experiences at other dentist offices but this changed my outlook. I have moved around a bit, and have therefore been to 5-6 different dentists in the past 4 years. By far, this is the most disorganized and seemingly backwards dental practice I have ever used. Prepare to have the staff get appointment dates wrong. The actual facility appears to be falling apart. I have gotten some of the worst dental advice I've ever received here: "Oh, that filling is FINE." After 2nd and 3rd opinion from different dentists, the filling was replaced and additional decay removed, before it got to "crown stage." You will be charged PER PAGE for copies of your records. Save yourself the time and headache and just drive to West Hartford. read more
