Many of the other tailors I visited worked out of small or makeshift home studios, but Connie's space was open and airy, with a large mirror and a platform that truly makes you feel like a princess when you step up to see how the dress is coming together on your body. Connie herself was just as impressive--kind, professional, and very mindful of my budget. Appointments can feel brief, but she is fair, efficient, and clearly skilled at what she does. Overall, I was extremely happy with how my dress turned out and would absolutely recommend Connie to other brides in the future.

I admit I came to Helen…read morea bit late in the game so there was a tight deadline getting my dress and the fitting but Helen made it happen. You call Helen to make an appointment. Then there you can browse her selection of designs, which she designs herself. If you give her enough time you can pick the fabric. Otherwise you'll have to settle for the fabrics that are more readily available. She'll take your measurements and then you set an appointment to try on your gown. Make sure to bring the shoes you plan to wear on your special occasion so she gets the length right. Then on your second trip, make sure you have your receipt number handy. Maybe take a picture of it as soon as she gives it to you on your first visit. Then she may make additional adjustments or not. Helen also has a lot of dresses available for rental as well. This is a very homey, small business shop so the fitting room is basically a big closet in the back. She is really nice, kinda reminds me of many friends' moms. She speaks limited English so if you have a particular vision and don't speak Mandarin, I'd bring a friend to help translate. My dress came out so well fitting and I got a lot of compliments on it. Hope to find another occasion to wear it again (and hope I can still fit it lol). It was around $300, not too bad! There is street parking in front and residential parking around.

I was looking around for a QiPao to wear to…read moremy graduation and stumbled upon Brocade Apparel after multiple failed attempts of finding a well fitting, generic QiPao in Chinatown. I am very glad that I decided to come to Brocade to see Helen. I did not have an appointment, but Helen took me in graciously. Which she did not have to since she does state on her website that appointment are REQUIRED. I clearly did not read it carefully enough at the time. I told her where some of my insecurities were and she explained that QiPaos look best on people who have some extra meat and fluff to them and she was able to point on what type of designs would help accentuate my natural curves. She rushed my order a bit as I did not know that QiPaos that are custom takes a minimum of 3-4 months to make. I had the basic QiPao design and Helen added the sleeves for me although there is normally an extra charge to add sleeves to QiPaos. Please DO NOT throw away your receipt since you have to text that to her the day before the fitting so she can track your dress. I had a initial fitting in mid November and I received my dress about 3 weeks after since I had gained some weight and the dress needed to be altered to go up a size. In the end it all worked out and I had my beautiful, pure silk QiPao just in time for my photoshoot. Everyone who saw me in the QiPao could not stop complimenting me on the day of my photoshoot and the day of my graduation. I had never felt more confident in clothing than putting on the QiPao. I am so grateful for this experience with Helen in designing a custom QiPao. Also, expect that basic QiPaos are a minimum of $500 and up. If you want embroidery, I was told that it will be a minimum of about $1,000+. Prices are due to change based on the economy of course. Helen also informed me that she can design other clothing besides QiPaos and I had even noticed some wedding dresses in her changing room. I will definitely go back to Helen when I get married to design another dress. She also informed me her busy season tends to be from Jan/Feb until end of August as that is when Lunar New Year and Wedding Season is, so expect a longer turn-around time during that period.

She came off very kind in the beginning but she is a very hostile woman who made the entire experience a very sad one for me and it's still on my mind. When I went to pick up my dress, she called me and immediately accused me of being "disrespectful" for not doing all my alterations with them--something that was never stated to me as a clear policy. In person, she continued to speak to me harshly and said I wasted their time and what I did was not acceptable. She said it so many times and so aggressively I started to cry, and only then she felt bad for being so ridiculously harsh. I even offered to apologize to her seamstress who she claims I was wasting her time, to which she then told told me "it's not a big deal" To make it worse, I was quoted $50 but charged $75 with no clear explanation. I did not want to further argue so I paid what was asked. I went in to pick up my wedding dress, an experience every girl wants to remember for the rest of their lives and left feeling upset and honestly in tears. No customer should be treated this way. I was definitely loving the dress and they offered to set up an appointment the following day. I returned the next day with my dad. While all the dresses I tried on were beautiful, nothing compared to how I felt in the beautiful first one I tried on the day before. We celebrated with champagne as I said YES to the dress. I was also very lucky to have walked in when they were having their end of the year sample dress sale. I got the most amazing deal, even with alterations included. I was a little afraid of coming to this place after reading the reviews, but I actually had a good experience. But I think that may be because I went with my Cantonese and Mandarin speaking mom. Usually Chinese places are nicer to people who speak the same language as them (sorry, but so true) There were quite a few dresses to choose from, along with the Chinese style dresses as well. As mentioned in a previous review, this place rents and sells dresses. The lady who helped me try on a few dresses is named Elaine. She is very nice, but does not speak much English. She spoke Cantonese with my mom. Macy Lu is the make- up artist and she was pretty nice to us. She speaks English and Cantonese. We were not pushed to purchase anything. Both ladies provided us information and was very patience with us. One thing I forgot to mention that for bridesmaid dresses are there for renting only. If you want to have a bridesmaid dress in another uncommon color (like emerald green, the color I wanted for my bridesmaids dresses, as it is the theme of my wedding and also my favorite color), you will have to purchase it. They will special order the dress for you. For those typical Chinese wedding photos (where you wear several dresses and you have make up and your hair done), the price ranges from $688- $4,300. These prices include a 11 x 18 inch album with 1 photo CD. (not sure if this is a good price or not, because I haven't been to the other places on this street yet to know) I didn't end up purchasing anything, still want to check out the rest of Las Tunas Dr. bridal row before purchasing anything. The staff members are beyond RUDE, forcing on you their "artist view", excessive hidden cost, and majority of their wedding dress are strapless. My soon to be married friend invited me to review her wedding pictures. We were not even greeted. While reviewing the pictures, one of the staff sarcastically asked if I was the decision maker. Apparently my input lead to a lot of revisions they did not like. They also force my friend to select a more traditional pose for the large portrait. My friend repeated herself so many time that she wants a less traditional pose. What happened to "the customer is always right"? Oh my goodness, I didn't even pay a cent but left feeling ripped off. There's better prices and service to be had....ELSEWHERE.
