Hello, This is a fellow 7th grader at I Can Academy. I have to say, the staff are extremely nice and caring! Most of them are parents, so they have proper experience with this kind of stuff. The best part about the staff is that they don't just focus on teaching, they focus on YOU. The teachers have less students which means they can focus on students individually. Other schools have teachers which focus on the class as a student body. The teachers want to know YOU and what YOU need help on and what YOU like. It may be smaller than your average school, but makes up for it for the indivual care the teachers put into the students. It's a great cross between homeschool and school, where you have less stress and all the kids are chill and you get all the knowledge you need. It's a great low-stress alternative with social aspects to homeschool. ICA also has class 2 days a week (Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday). ICA helps kids LEARN subjects at an more appropriate pace and is great with helping each student GROW to be the best version of themselves. ICA will make your child SOAR into the wonders of fun and low-stress! Thanks ICA!

I had the pleasure of hosting a playdate at I Can Academy this past weekend. I've been working with Shaina for the last couple of months and she is incredible. She is a talented and dedicated teacher and the space she had created at I Can Academy is nothing short of spectacular! The space is clean, welcoming, and functional. I was blown away by the incredible learning spaces she has created for her students.

Where do you start when something has made such a profound impact in your child's life? This year has been a difficult year for my 6th grade daughter concerning math. Worse still, as a parent you realize that the methods taught to you decades ago just don't transcribe over all that well. What we learned as seniors in 1990 they are mastering in late elementary grades. Struggling as a parent trying to teach an already confused child is as disheartening for you as it is for the child. Oh I was able to come up with the correct answer, but only after trial and error at failing at it with incorrect answers. All the while your child is looking at you, they're not saying it but they know you are dog paddling in the deep end of the pool and your arms are so very tired. That was when her teacher referred us to "I Can Academy", in Mission Viejo. Located just a short walk away from Mission Viejo Mall, this place has been both of our saviors. Employing teachers that are actively teaching currently in the local district or have decades of experience, they have guided my daughter to first comprehending the math material (in her case) to now being able to confidently take tests in class and scoring high marks. Just 3 short months ago my daughter would cry with the stress level when she would come home, not fully understanding the material being taught. This is a common occurrence these days with over attended schools, class sizes that were unheard of in our time and a teacher that can only provide so much attention individually when the class is 30+ kids strong, all with differing needs to learn. Don't get me wrong, our teacher at the school is phenomenal. It's just that our daughter needs more indepth teaching with skills that I truthfully don't possess. Now she is in a tutoring class that has 3 children in it, that's 3 kids that actually want to learn, fully dialed in to the instructor and the course work in a private and quiet room with whiteboards, books and other learning materials.. This was our biggest deciding factor when it came to choosing a tutor. Some may be one on one that you find, but they are teaching at a table in the library. Full of sounds and distractions that hamper the lesson at every turn. We know this because we went through this with our oldest daughter. You can also try one of the cookie cutter tutoring schools out there. They are 10+ kids in the class and they are following a structured plan that was designed nationally. I'm sure that for a select group of kids this might work, but I wasn't willing to subscribe to what I feel is again an overloaded group (10 kids for an hour will not yield personalized results) when I feel that a more private approach, with a lower kid to teacher ratio would work better. How right I was, from the initial meeting we realized that Shaina and her teachers were the tailored team that would give our daughter the best possible outcome. Her tutor is a teacher that she knows at her school, teaching exactly what was needed in a way that a normal school would struggle to attain in this day and age. We just crested 10 one hour sessions and the impact is seen not only in test scores that have risen steadily, but in my child's demeanor. Gone is the stress, the tears, the look of terror on her face the morning of the test. She exudes a confidence of someone that not only grasps the lesson, but one that has found joy in the learning process. What more can you ask for from your child/student. The desire to learn more because the fundamentals are no longer floating in the ether, always just out of reach because the class has to move on to the next subject, they have become attainable. I couldn't recommend I Can Academy enough and we as a family are in debt to them for this gift of learning.

If I was only reviewing the first 2,…read morethis would absolutely be a 5-star review: they are amazing, thorough, and exactly what you need to pass! However, I cannot advise anyone to purchase part 3 in good-faith without a strong warning. The material is fine, and she is forthcoming about this study guide being "different", but once you purchase it you'll see the quality-disparity is pretty drastic in a not-so-great way. Laura provides videos where she goes through them, but the questions are not modeled after real CSET questions , which is the entire magic of the first 2. In addition, several of the worksheets assume we can use a calculator, but calculators aren't allowed on the CSET, which proves these questions and worksheets are NOT what we actually need for the test it's supposed to be guiding us on. While I am sure part 3 is sufficient to pass, it feels very bare-minimum compared to the first 2. I think pricing all 3 equally gave a false-impression, since the disparity in usefulness/uniqueness are massive. The first 2 study guides are unlike anything else out there, and set her apart from the rest; but I cannot advise anyone to purchase part 3 unless you don't have any other resources.

Kumon has helped me excel in school by honing my writing skills, problem-solving skills, and by getting me into a routine of doing my homework every day. I was a student here throughout elementary, middle, and high school. I also had the pleasure of working here for two years as well. I was able to finish the entire Reading Program and almost finish the Math Program. Kumon helped me excel in math in school, where I was able to take advanced math classes three years above my grade level. In addition, the reading program definitely helped me develop good reading and literary interpretation skills that are much needed, especially now that I'm in college. Currently, I am an undergraduate pre-med student at UCSD majoring in Molecular Biology. I wouldn't have been able to get where I am today academically without Kumon. I paid their $800 fee up front, made our first appointment through their system and showed up. They had no idea who we were and why we were there. Apparently she needed to finish up her assessment which we had almost completed the first time we went to the location. We were told by the person there that Robert tends to tell parents the assessment is much shorter to complete than it is to get them into the facility. She completed the assessment during the session and while I was talking with the person there, he proceeded to shout back to another child to do their work. My daughter was so uncomfortable the entire time she was there, and once I witnessed this interaction, there was no way I felt comfortable with her attending. I emailed the location and explained my experience and asked for a refund since no services had been rendered - only the initial assessment. I received a phone message from Robert stating we would be refunded yet after another 6 weeks, we still saw no credit on our account. I contacted them again and then received an e-mail from Robert that our refund request had actually be declined by 'ownership' and he offered to put a credit towards 1:1 tutoring or their school year program. I told him tutoring during the school year does not work for us because our daughter is highly involved in sports and there's no room in her schedule once her fall season starts and requested the owners' direct contact information. I received another voicemail message from Robert stating again that my refund request has been declined and my only way forward is to call my credit card company and ask for a charge back from the facility. What absolutely terrible customer service. Now I'm still fighting with them for a refund and again asked for the owner's contact information which I still have not been provided. I even called the number and received an answer from a call center and they too would not provide it. I would caution anyone looking to sign your child up you give it good thought. Once you pay them, you will NOT get your money back regardless of your experience.

They really put the goals of the students first. There are many unique skills that are not covered very well in school, I call them accelerated learning techniques, all of which are practiced in abundance at the Math & Science Academy. Several of my friends have had their children get expert one on one tutoring with SoCal Math Academy, and have experienced dramatic increases in their grades. It's not a fluke, rather the process they use. As a child (many years ago!), I struggled with basic algebra for years, until I had the right teacher come along. He instilled in me the right way to learn mathematics, and from that point on, I transformed from a C grade student to straight A's in math. That helped me get through college and into a great job in the technology field. You'll agree with me that math, especially in a place like California, is a subject you must master if you desire to get into a highly sought after technical area. I am not bashing the SoCal school system by any means, the teachers are some of the hardest working, yet underpaid professions in the USA. Sometimes it's the slightest changes in the environment of HOW you learn for an individual student that makes all the difference. If you or your child, like I did, struggles in a traditional classroom setting, this may be your ticket to getting top grades in math. When you experience one of the tutor's classes, that is what you will experience - a different learning environment that leverages the individual learning styles of the students. I didn't mean to write such a long review, but as a parent and one who struggled with math as a child, I fully understand how valuable having a tutor can be and the HUGE difference it make - not just in math, but also in your career. You can use these same skills in many areas of your life. To the team at SoCal Math & Science Academy, I appreciate all that you do for our children, your absolute dedication and passion for this subject is simply unlike any other. Thank you!
