For our long touristy weekend in Paris, Hotel Raphael was in a perfect, centralized location. The hotel and the room we stayed in was very charming, but the experience overall was lacking. Nonetheless, we're happy we gave it a try but will probably stay at other hotels in the future. ARRIVAL. It's right down the street from the Arc de Triomphe, which is fantastic. The bellhop service was great and very much needed to carry our heavy luggage up a few short flights of stairs to the main hallway. At the top of the stairs is a long wall-to-wall counter. One would assume this is the front desk, but it's not; it's the concierge desk. You need to walk down the hallway to a small counter to check in. I watched several folks get redirected down the hallway. ROOM. We stayed in a beautiful room. See the attached photos. Even though it was a good-looking room, it was poorly designed, and it hasn't been upgraded well over the years. There was ample (hanging) closet space, but not enough storage for anything else. The shower in the bathroom was ridiculously small. You couldn't even lather up the shampoo without bumping your elbows on the sides of the shower. The amenities are what you'd find in a 3-star hotel. The hair dryer was at least 10 years old. SERVICE. The service was decent, but the people providing the service weren't very friendly. We've had friendlier service at 3-star hotels. RESTAURANTS. We ate breakfast at the hotel each morning. The selection was good, but nothing stood out as unique or quaint from a 5-star hotel. Before we left the final morning, we went up to the rooftop bar. The views were fantastic (see photos), and I wish we had had time to visit when it was open. WHAT I LIKED MOST. The location and the room terrace with a view of the Eiffel Tower. SUGGESTIONS. Stay away from the mini bar. The water alone is 8 euros. They don't tell you this when they're introducing you to your room. read more

Highly recommended for a cocktail or two up on the roof. The service is fantastic & the cocktails are just awesome. Mine in particular, knocked it out of the park... was perfect in every way., if you're into gin based cocktails. You're paying for the spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower... so, while you're sipping away on your delicious drink, chowing down on the mixed nuts they bring to the table + the mini olive muffins... enjoy that view. Soak it all in, throw your card down & relax. This is the way to do it... I'm sure there are other rooftops in the area, but, Hôtel Raphaël was great in my book. Get yourself there. read more

Visited Hotel Raphael to see the rooftop views of Paris and wow was I impressed! You get a clear view of the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe from here. All the seats have a pretty unobstructed view so you shouldn't have any issues finding an appropriate spot. Prices are definitely on the high end most cocktails at 30 euros. But the view is definitely worth it! read more

I'm staying here now and this is the second or third time I have been here, always for extended stays, you will note most complaining reviews are by people who have brief stays (in any hotel), perhaps the hotel doesn't have time to suit their taste. In any event the hotel is even finer than I recall it. The last time I was here it was luxurious but some of the furniture seemed warn. They were renovating their breakfast room. Nevertheless my room was enormous and my stay luxurious. This time, everything seems in better condition. The staff is still extremely warm in both French and English and there is no need that is overlooked. This is an extremely discreet hotel perfect for love affairs or secret agents. The various other "palace hotels" were three times the cost of my room, I had the same issue last visit, to stay in one of the celebrated palaces required an enormous investment. This is almost "a palace", has a rich tradition (and it shows), and you will want for nothing. I just hope this doesn't become fashionable because I like the idea of discreet and secret luxury! Oof the "food poisoning" reviews and the "bad seating/service" reviews are hard to take. This is a very fine hotel. read more

From the time I first began communication with the staff at Hotel Raphaël to the time we departed, we received excellent friendly attention. The hotel arranged for very comfortable transport from and to Charles de Gaulle airport. We were greeted with smiles. Check in was very easy. Our bags were taken to our room for us. And we were escorted by elevator to our room where we were surprised by lovely pastries. The room was very clean and the beds super comfy. The bedding was luxurious and the decor truly fabulous. We spent a great amount of time on our private garden terrace with views of the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. We ordered room service a few times which was awesome but we really loved the red bar. The bartenders created signature drinks for us every night. Everyone was so nice with a great sense of humor. The hotel has several grocery stores nearby. And the location is central to so much. We used Uber to get around and also met with a local friend. I really didn't want to leave but will certainly return someday. Merci to everyone at Hotel Raphaël who made our stay wonderful. read more

Worst vacation ever. First time out of country (I'm a US citizen)- My friend Amy (British) booked a reservation at the restaurant on the terrace and after eating the food she got absolutely sick from the Melon and ham appetizer. She spent the next 2 days at our hotel the Pullman violently vomiting every couple of minutes. The first night I called immediately to complain and ask them to contact their management. The next day I called back and they used the excuse that they were planning on contacting me. They said they were positively sure it wasn't their food and that because no one else got sick- it could not have been them. But they'll check with their GM. So I waited until we got back to London and she went to her doctor and after some tests they confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt it was due to a cured meat (aka the Ham) and occurred during the time frame we had dinner. It almost turned into a stomach virus. So after getting that confirmation I called the Raphael AGAIN and told them without a shadow of a doubt a doctor confirmed it was them. The next manager denied it again and said they'll check with their GM. Now I'm back in the US and it's 5am and I'm calling them for a 3rd time and the same manager from the 2nd call says in no way will they refund me the money because - in his own words: no one else got sick so it couldn't be their fault. Funnily enough my friend and I shared everything else the entire day OTHER than the meal that night. She had the melon and the ravioli as the main. I had the foie gras and the lamb as my main. I basically paid a grand for my hotel room for 2 nights, 100 for the euro star, and a 300$ meal for what was 48 hours of having to listen to a close friend die. If this were to happen to ANY other restaurant in the states, especially a 4 star restaurant- I'd be getting an immediate refund and an invite back. It's insane how hard this manager is trying to push the blame off of them. Only reasons I'm giving them even a single star is because 1) the Lamb was marvelous and I can't knock them for it. And 2) my friend lost half a stone (7 pounds for us Americans) in weight from being so sick and throwing up so much so she probably looks like one of those underfed models that are in desperate need of a sandwich now. View was great too from the roof. Pity I basically spent 2 grand to stare out of my room's window for the next 2 days. read more

I absolutely loved this experience, and for the life of me - I can't imagine who wouldn't. Comfortable hospitality, excellent location, and an incredible classic buidling. The room itself was stunning. Breathtaking views of the Sacre Cours AND Eiffel Tower were to be had from our room. The rooftop deck offered a view that was on par with that from the top of the Arc de Triomphe. A five star rating for a five star hotel is a different animal than for a three star - the expectations and costs are different. There is no exception here. We paid for a package that offered breakfast during our stay, and the first night we were provided with an opportunity to order our breakfast in advance - and it was fantastic. The second night, we did not receive anything - and in our exhaustion, we just assumed that the service would be the same. No service came the next morning, and the front desk was less than helpful when we inquired. (He was quite stiff - bordering on rude - in all of our dealings with him). From a maintenance standpoint, most of the fixtures in the bathroom - while beautiful - leaked or didn't work. These quibbles would be pretty minor in a lesser hotel, but at a place like this, perfection is the expectation. read more

We went to the rooftop for cocktails to watch set and the Eiffel Tower light up beautiful weather! As tourists it's interesting to watch Parisien's ID your origin so at first manager sat us at a table by the bar (no view and noisy) so for second round asked our wonderful polite server to move. He immediately moved us and when went around corner there were 10 open tables. We had our view and stayed 2 hours ! Service was impeccable and Le Mojito yummy with nuts and bits. the view! read more

Went to the rooftop bar and we requested to be seated in the shade, however was seated in the sun due to availability. When I went to let staff know I would like to be re-seated to a shaded area they ignored me. I said Bonjour to the bartender to which she did not reply. I also attempted to talk with the gentleman that seated us. We also sat at our table for over 15mins without being greeted by a server. We chose to leave after lack of service. read more

The Terasse at Le Raphael is one of the most luxurious bars I have ever been to. It is a bit on the smaller side, so it might be difficult to get a table on a busy day. The service is great! Don't be afraid to ask to sit at a table you want, they'll do their best to give you the best table. The hotel and the terasse are just beautiful. There is a garden within the terasse that wraps around the roof from which you can enjoy a view of both the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe. The decor is simple, with white and red chairs, with neutral tone umbrellas. The sprawling greenery and flowers really added to the peaceful ambience at this bar. It was also generally on the quieter side, with everyone sharing a few words in between enjoying the view and their drinks. The menu is quite expensive even for nonalcoholic drinks, but I think you're paying a lot of the view and experience. I ordered a peach Bellini which was exquisite, and I have to say worth the 27€. It was served with olives and some pastries. Definitely an experience to have if you'd like to enjoy Paris from a quiet rooftop with the best views in the city! The restaurant within this hotel is very nice. The service I received was wonderful, and the food was fairly good. They have a lunch set you can select and the options are not bad. I had the baby chicken rotisserie with scallops and oysters. Everything was well made. After dining, you can go onto the 7th floor terrace and gives the most amazing view of Paris. We stayed at this hotel for a week and really liked it. It reeks of history and old time elegance. The entrance is grand and so cool. Tucked away on a side street right off the Champs and soon to next door to the Pennisula Paris so it's a good spot. Rooms are huge (rare) and the bathrooms are so nice. Great products and awesome shower. The bar is famous and not as expensive as you might think. Great feel in the whole hotel, you can just feel Helmut Newton shooting the famous shots here. Arriving in Paris for the start of y honeymoon was excited and nerve-wrecking at the same time. I was nervous about the language barrier, comfort and my enjoyment level. All those issues were put to rest by the wonderful staff at the Raphaël. The hotel itself is quaint but grand, functional but opulent, and comfortable all around. When we first arrived, the kind staff let us know our room was not ready. So, they held our bags and treated us to a cocktail in their beautiful bar. There we sat amongst red velvet, orange glowing lights, and scruffy Parisian dog and sipped champagne. It was a great kick-off to the days ahead. Our room was quite large. A corner room which gave us several sets of windows and one balcony with a stunning view of the Arc De Triomphe. The bed was large and had a view of the TV, which had American programs and movies to rent. The bathroom was also large, with a separate tub and shower and was very clean. We had room service for several meals and were very satisfied each time with the flavor and quality of the food. In fact, the bolognese I had in my room was the best pasta I had in Paris. The front desk staff and concierge were also very accommodating. We often had questions about the city, requested taxis, and even shipped a package all with the help of a smiling staff. For the money and star-rating, this hotel gives a lot of bang for the buck. I would recommend getting a larger room and really using the property. Beautiful! read more

I was looking an upscale hotel for a group of clients that are going to be doing a tour of Paris this spring and a friend of mine told me that I should put Hotel Raphael at the top of the list and sure enough she was correct. Avoid. Maybe once upon a time was good, but not anymore. Where to even begin. Took a 2 bedroom suite. Air conditioning in one half of suite broken and won't work at all. Took them 2 days to finally come up and look at it and then their solution was to set up a fan in the room. They said would take 7 hours of work to fix and too much to ask. Really?? At these rates? Their other suggestion was to leave kids alone in tge working hajf if tge suite and move the adults far away into a standard room. Uh, what was point of suite then? I get it if ac broke upon our arrival. But was clear that this had been broken for a while and they knew it. Noise. You hear every footstep of every person above you, as well as music and voices. Good luck resting peacefully. Food and drink prices. Yes it is charging 5 star prices, but even at that level there is a limit. Restaurant meals wanted 285 euros per person for brunch or dinner. Drinks on terrace bar over 30 euros per glass of wine. Coca cola 20 euros per glass. No joke. No wonder both were always empty. Decor. Outdated. Furniture quite used and faded materials. Only bathrooms are nice. Modernized for most part with bright lighting. Only positive is room sizes are large by European standards. So many better offerings. This must have been an elegant hotel at one time. The atmosphere is desirable but the service, with the exception of the concierge, was about average. The bar was pitiful and the bartenders were always in a hurry to close. Maid service was good. Breakfast was boring, but nothing exciting. read more

Awful. Don't waste your time. We spent over an hour waiting for drinks, were never brought macaroons (which were included in every purchase) and were ignored and served after multiple tables that sat down 20 to 30 minutes after us. Horrible experience. The staff is rude, and the drinks are NOT worth anywhere near 20 euro. We have been to both the Four Seasons hotel and The Peninsula and had far superior service. Seriously- don't ever come here unless you're in the mood to be disappointed. read more

This hotel is unlike any other - it has old world charm but is updated for comfort and truly makes you feel like royalty. The rooftop bar/restaurant open May-Sept has stunning views of the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe. Drinks won't come cheap though (15E for a beer!). The breakfast spread is included and offers eggs, yogurts, fruits, and pastries (chocolate croissants to die for) as well as delicious fresh squeezed orange juice. I have stayed here 3+ times and have loved it more with every visit. read more

Great location 1block off Champs and near the Arc. Metro,station outside the door. Rooms are high ceiling very traditional French, Louis the something style with crystal chandelier in the living room. Incredible roof top garden to watch Eiffel Tower light show at night. An old Parisian beauty that needs a refreshment. I stayed a few days and the hotel is old style nice. However the rooms are in need of refreshment. The carpet in my room was stained; internet just does not work. You barely get a signal everywhere in the hotel and I could barely check my email. So if you are in Paris and want to stay connected, go elsewhere. The restaurant as well is need of a new Chef. I was served an uncooked rack of lamb that was all fat and muscle. Sent it back to the kitchen and when I got it back and I still could not cut it and asked for a steak knife... They did not have it. I ended up not eating. They served dinner on the roof top of the hotel and not in the main dining room. It was 55 ° F and we had dinner with blankets. I made the reservation for the restaurant; no Monsieur; we only serve on the roof top ??. The rooms have also poor noise insulation and I heard the people next door until they went to bed. The concierge and some of the staff were pleasant. To conclude I do believe Raphael does not deserve to be in the LHW portfolio and is more 4 stars than 5. read more
