The location and the price are the best things about this hotel. Minutes walk from the Bastille metro, from where you can reach just about anywhere you'd want to in Paris, some without even changing.
The room itself was nothing to write home about, two single beds were pushed together to make a double, and the legs on one of them were a bit dodgy making the bed a little shaky, but we didn't make an issue of it due to the short length of our stay. The room smelled strongly of carpet or air freshner when we checked in...too strongly...and a rubbish bin had been left unemptied since the previous guests had left.
One gets the feeling of being a little off the beaten track around here, which is no bad thing. There are plenty of restaurants on the walk down Rue de Lyon towards the Gare de Lyon, in fact we had difficulty in choosing which ones to go to. I imagine they were all a little cheaper than those nearer to the tourist traps of the city. There are also shops including a mini-market,so if you're really on a budget you can pick up some drinks and store them in the minibar fridge in the hotel room. There ae also drinks making facilities in the rooms, which I was grateful for after a fairly traumatic journey from Orly airport to get here.
Staff let us leave luggage at the hotel on check-out day so we could collect after a day out and about, and they were happy to order a taxi for us. They also passed us two shirts that i'd mistakenly left in the hotel room, which they had found.
The breakfast was functional, a small buffet of cold food including cheese, meats, bread, jam, fruit, cereal, drinks etc. Nothing amazing, but certainly good enough to line the stomach with before hitting the streets.
I would recommend this for a no-frills short break, but wouldn't want to spend more than 3 or 4 nights here read more
