Victor at Hye Lighting made my experience with lighting repair a breath of fresh air. I have sconces that I thought I could repair myself by buying the crystals online. Even though I had measured, they did not fit when I tried to attach them. I headed into Hye Lighting and Victor immediately attended to me and fixed the crystals. I later found another missing crystal I had missed and went back to Hye again. Victor and his assistant searched high and low for the one last missing Swarovski crystal and sure enough they found one in their stash the exact size. Victor was a lifesaver and the fact that this store has so many supplies on hand to fix anything really makes them a hidden gem. Just when I thought me and the Internet could do it all, this amazing little shop proves nothing beats a brick and mortar store with owners that have extensive knowledge, inventory, and good old-fashioned service. Please support the stores we can still walk in because if we don't, getting help without losing money on Internet purchases will be a thing of the past. I could not return the crystal parts I had bought online, so I donated them to Victor. I highly recommend Hye for lighting purchases and repairs. On another note, some lights I had on columns faded years ago. Even back then, they took every light and spray painted them black. 10 years later and my column lights have never faded. I got our kitchen pendant lights from Peter and waited for some time until i know the quality is there before i post this review. After a year and 3 months i can say that they are good. At first i thought these guys are charging alot but now that i compare the quality or what I got from these guys vs what we got from Bed Bath ... the difference is noticeably. Easy to install , complete with no issues, easy to clean and keeps the quality. In regards to their customer service, Peter did pretty good. He took my order and told me 3 weeks but then he got some extra of the same model from the manufacturer and he was kind enough to call and let me know. Saved 2 Weeks ! The guy is a total dick. WILDLY RUDE & insulting. So much so it was comical! Drove by this place multiple times, intrigued by their window displays, but they are closed on weekends, so I went out of my way to come in on a weekday and when I entered the store and told the guy that I was doing a huge remodel and what I was looking for he responded, "That's not where I'd put a light. That's stupid, why would you put a light there?" I then explained that my ceilings were too low to do it any other place and that the design of my home doesn't accommodate a large light over the kitchen island. He then responds, "People are buying bigger and bigger houses, so these lights look great in those big houses." (Okay, cool dude you don't get it) So, I brushed off his rudeness and continued to look around. I found a trio of pendent lights on display as a unit. I measured it out (thank you, rude dude, for letting me at least use the measuring tape) and inquired as to the price with the other sales associate (a lovely woman who genuinely did want to help me) and she involved the guy again, because they couldn't find the light on the brands website. The man explained that, that particular light was something that they had custom built. Going on (very curtly) to say, "But you don't want that light with 3 different pendants. That's Ugly in my opinion." who asked your opinion little dude? SMH Similar lighting displays are all the rage right now in modern home design... which is why I thought they had their own version ON DISPLAY. Rather than get into a thing with this prickly little fella, I thanked them and walked out. It's like he went out of his way to ruin a sale for thousands of dollars. This is why more and more people just buy directly online and these brick and mortar stores go out of business. Because dicks like this dude shouldn't be forward facing with customers. Anywho, they didn't have anything extraordinary or unique. So, I will continue my hunt online, or go back to De Light Ville down the street where someone actually gives a shit about the customer experience. Happy with this family owned business! I brought my antique crystal chandelier in to be rewired. They did a great job bringing it back to life. Not only does it work again but they cleaned it as well. Once I got it home & hooked up it didn't work! I went back in & the owner said it was because I had a faulty switch. He gave me a test bulb, discounted a new switch and after a second attempt it worked just as he said! I really liked Hye Lighting because it not a "big box" store. It is family owned and mainly ran by the family members. Another plus is they have a wide selection of all types of lights (outdoor and indoor) and if you do not see what you want they have many resources to get you want you need. It is hard to find specialty stores like this one that are not pushed out of the market because of Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. The one negative we did have was their customer service after we purchased the lights. They said they would call once they came in, and at times did claim they called, but we did not receive a call. We were the ones having to constantly follow-up. I'll chalk this up as an anomaly but it did happen multiple times so hopefully it is not a trend with the new generation taking over at the store. read more

I recently purchased a Danish modern lamp at Old Friends and was referred to Hye Lighting by the owner. In addition to rewiring, I needed to replace its crackly, crispy lampshade. When I arrived, the staff were very helpful and understood what I needed. I selected a custom shade from their sample book and paid $80 for the repairs. Six days later, I was informed the lamp was ready for pick-up. Hye Lighting nearly earned a five-star review, but the lampshade wasn't installed when I returned to the shop. Fortunately, I received an apology and the repairs were completed about a half-hour later. My advice is to take your lamp here, but be sure to verify your order is complete before hopping in the car. read more

I needed two older lamp bases converted so new lampshades I had purchased would fit. After several attempts at doing this myself using harps and other parts purchased on Amazon failed, I brought my lamps to Hye Lighting. Should have done this in the first place! Friendly, knowledgeable staff, the modifications were done in a few days, price was reasonable and in addition to the repairs, the lamps were cleaned and polished and look better than they did when they were new! Had to update my review! The pendant light I purchase are beautiful but the led bulb keeps going out and I had them replaced at least twice now by hye. They promised me better led bulb but it never came. Now I have to go else where to fix this problem. It's very sad since I really liked them. Best price in the valley! Lots and lots of selection through the web and in store. It's family owned so you don't feel pressured to buy anything or if they are trying to work on commission. Upon my arrival, I was immediately greeted by the manager Peter. I showed him images of my dining room, color scheme and decor, I let him know my budget and what I was looking for. Brought in a lamp to Hye for repair because the three-way switch or socket seemed to be loose or burned out (I didn't know which) because even brand new 3-way bulbs would flicker and only light at one level. After a few days they called and said they had installed a new 3-way socket and the lamp worked fine now. When I went in to pick it up they quickly tested it in front of me and it seemed to work fine. So I paid them $58 for "re-wiring new 3-way socket" and took the lamp straight home. However, as soon as I got it home and turned on the switch with a new bulb, it did the same thing as before: the bulb flickered at first and then only lit at the one mid-level brightness. So I called in (this was only about 20 minutes after I had picked up the lamp) and told him that as soon as I plugged it in at home it did the same thing as before. He, with some attitude, disavowed any responsibility, insisted they had repaired it correctly, said they had tested it in front of me in the store, that he personally checks all repairs, so the problem couldn't be the new switch or their repair job. Well, to make a long story short, the next day I took the lamp into a lighting place in Sherman Oaks and explained the situation, and after checking it out the very nice man said the problem was with the new 3-way socket Hye had installed because it was a push-in type of socket. Since I was clueless, he explained "Push-in wire connections are much more likely to fail than the standard screw terminal connections." So he offered to put a new screw-in socket for $25. I paid, he installed it while I waited, and the lamp has worked perfectly ever since---haven't had a stitch of trouble with the 3-way socket or switch in several months since. 'Nuf said. So much for Hye Lighting. read more

From the older reviews, I'd have to say things have gone downhill at Hye Lighting. I visited their store for the first time on 2-16-13 & it was not a good experience at all. When I first walked in, the cashier was arguing with a very dissatisfied customer. I didn't know what the original problem was, but it was obvious the employee was rude to the customer. I needed some wiring covers & bulbs for a lamp fixture. After being ignored for 15 minutes, I asked an employee for help. I brought one cover to show him what I needed. He said, "I don't think we have that in stock," then he disappeared. 20 minutes later, he returned with the covers & bulbs. I asked him how much they cost. He told me they were $2.00 each, then he said, "I'll help someone else while you think about it," then he left me standing there for another 20 minutes. As he was ringing them up, I noticed one cover was missing. He sent another employee to find it, & 15 minutes later, she returned with one that was the wrong size. By then, I'd had enough, so I left. I feel fortunate that this experience occured before I did any major business with Hye Lighting. After that, it was "Bye Lighting." read more

HYE lighting has the largest selection of lighting I've seen under on roof. They carry all the top names and have a division that creates custom lamps. I've given them antique lamps for repair and have received them repaired without compromising their integrity or value. Pricing: Their pricing is unbelievably great. I used to love this place. Have been going there since they were on Van Nuys Blvd. They were so nice. Now they are in the big time, servicing builders and they are rude rude rude. They have no time for repairs or consideration for older people or long-time customers. They say on their voice mail that they follow COVID protocols, but they don't! Often Victor or others are not wearing masks or only half wear them and get defensive if you mention it. It's very sad because there are not a lot of family run businesses like this and I would like to support them, but I can't stand the way they act. Fantastic service and very unique collection. This place is a gem and I'm so happy to have found it they have a customer for life! I was shopping for a modern grand chandelier for 20' ceiling everywhere I went the only choices were classic old styles that didn't match my ultra modern house. I found the most gorgeous chandelier that is not only beautiful but it's a quality unlike any other. The prices are very reasonable and they even did the instillation for me. Everybody from Victor to Tamara and George were excellent! I can't say one negative thing about them everything was super smooth their installers were professional and very clean not messy like the other contractors I used before. Probably one of the rudest and worst customer service establishments I have ever been to in my life time. I do not even understand how Tamara has a job there. You can never get straight answers from them, they are extremely condescending when they speak to you. It looks like from the top to bottom this place does not get what customer service is as you can see from their recent reviews. Another lady in front Dianna is also extremely rude which I am not surprised because it is a common theme with everyone you run into here. Their orders are never ready as promised or there is something wrong with the lights and they make it seem like it is your fault. Very unfortunate to see the start of the decline of this place. It had nice potential that was ruined by two bad seeds (Tamara and Dianna).
