We have been going to SJPHC for 2 years, ever since the birth of our son…read more Things we like a lot: -The location of the practice can't be beat, as we're right in JP. -Sick appointment policy -- call at 8 am on day of, and they get you in. -Warm and friendly staff, especially at the front desk Things that need work: -The pediatric waiting room is in desperate need of some new books or magazines. Things you have to live with: -Most of the time, the wait time hasn't been too bad. A few times, it's been awful. But I think that is more about the individual provider than the practice. -Yes, when you call, you're usually put on hold. But they're a busy practice with small staff, so what can you do. Other information about our experience: We initially had Dr. Rundquist as our pediatrician (picked randomly). Over the first two years of our son's life, we mostly felt lukewarm about her. She didn't blow us away with her bedside manner, but we also felt that our son (whose health is pretty straightforward) was doing fine and we liked the practice. An example of something that turned me off is at his 18-month well-visit. She went down a list of milestones and asked me which of them he'd achieved. At first, I said yes, and then I found myself honestly saying no to the whole second half of the set, getting progressively more worried that my son might have a serious developmental delay that I wasn't aware of. She finished the list and added, "Well, he's not meeting the 24-month milestones, but he's doing great on the 18-month ones." She was completely unaware that she had caused any panic on my end. Another example was that our son had a bad respiratory infection and -- after repeated visits to the clinic over the course of a week -- wound up getting taken via ambulance to the hospital. Dr. Rundquist never called to follow up, nor did she ever acknowledge at a future appointment that she'd last seen him on the way to the Children's ER. The breaking point was at his 2-year well visit where she was looking at his growth chart and asked me how tall his dad was, trying to project his future height. We are a two-mom family. The correct language would've been to ask if we knew how tall his biological/genetic father was. But I understand that not everyone has the right training/knowledge -- although this practice *is* in JP, not exactly lacking for same-sex couples -- so I simply corrected her, saying, "His sperm donor was about [this] tall." She didn't react to my correction, and didn't adjust her language. "OK, so if his dad was this tall, and you're that tall, then he should be..." Our son is two. He understands an incredible amount of language. I want him to have a pediatrician that can be bothered to remember that we're a two-mom family. This example I've given was hardly the first time she'd gotten this wrong, but it was the last. I found the center's executive director's information online and emailed to complain and ask for help switching. He responded immediately, apologized, and got me connected with a new pediatrician ASAP (Dr. Bastian, whom we've heard is wonderful but technically had no availability). I found his quick response and remediation to be very encouraging, and I'm now feeling a lot better about the practice.

I've been going here for over a decade, but today was the last straw. After three appointments in a…read morerow where I was kept waiting for 45 minutes and never even saw my doctor, I'm done. The appointment I made previous to this one didn't get into the computer system, somehow, even though I spoke with two different people on the phone about it before coming in. They seem to schedule appointments 15 minutes apart, which, not surprisingly, is not a good policy for the patients. As other reviewers have mentioned, the customer service side of things is the WORST. The phone situation is terrible, but the receptionists in Adult Medicine are also not very helpful in person. I've had pretty good experiences with the actual doctors, when I can actually get in to see them, although not the podiatrist who insisted my foot problems were due to high heels (I don't wear high heels, but he didn't believe me). But enough is enough. Convenient or not, it is time for me to move on and get aggravated with a different practice.
