My husband had to tell them he didn't want to be tracked. The beds and pillows weren't the most comfortable. There were springs in the bed that made a lot of noise from just getting up. One of two elevators was out of commission. We could not get to our room from the lobby by stairs unless we went around to the parking lot and then went up. This is the worst hotel I've ever been to period. The hotel clearly was not prepared for me to check into my room. Booked a room weeks in advance and it took them about 3 hours to clean the room before we could check in. Had to sit in the lobby and was offered a single water bottle as an apology. Front desk called me up multiple times just to tell me they were confused by the information the cleaning staff was giving them and was unsure if the cleaning process was even close to done. Mind you this wait was longer than my actual flight to Bloomington drives included. Pretty unacceptable even on short notice which is not the case here. read more

Stayed here for one night before attending the Indy500 race. Needed a room within a reasonable distance to Indianapolis. This location is very convenient. It is right in town, close to many restaurants/bars/shopping. Which means bar hopping with no need for a DD or Uber. The entrance to the parking of this hotel is via an alley. The turn into the parking ramp is tight, so it isn't great for an inexperienced driver or someone with an extra-large vehicle. The hotel staff was nice enough. Nothing extraordinary. Our room was clean enough with an underwhelming view, but this wasn't important to us. The bathroom had mismatched hand towels hanging, might be a huge trigger for someone with OCD. The fact that one of the washcloths hanging had stains was a trigger for me. I really don't want to be reminded of the fact that random strangers have used the towels before me. The biggest thing was returning to the room late and trying to find bath towels to be sure we wouldn't have to call down in the morning. There is a huge shelf under the sink. Not there. Not hanging. Could not see them. Called down to the front desk and let them know we did not have any bath towels. He advised to look in the rack in the shower. From his answer, I knew that he must get these calls all the time. There they were. I had my husband go into the bathroom and try and find them. It's like smelling something bad and having someone else smell it to prove your sanity. He couldn't see them. The other couple with us said they couldn't find them in their room either, so they had resigned themselves to using hand towels until one of them found them turning on the shower. Why not just put at least two towels on the visible shelf under the sink? You could avoid answering all those calls. The bed. Well, I didn't sleep much. I don't usually sleep well the first night in a hotel, but this bed was uncomfortable and the pillows were flat. The next day, I kept wondering why my back was sore. I know why. Anyway, this is an adequate place to stay. Lots of room with the pull out sofa if you need it. We had a "cleaned by" type envelope to leave the housekeeper a tip. She signed it in purple ink and the letter i was dotted with hearts, so cute. I am not sure, but they may have middle schoolers cleaning the rooms. I kind of like the envelope for tips. I always feel weird just leaving money on the bed. I could see guests thinking it was tacky, but those are probably the guests that don't leave a tip anyway. read more

It's the holidays. No one's expecting Herculean efforts. But don't, upon checkin, assure us a full continental breakfast on Xmas day and then only provide cold cereal and packets of biscuits, and not even coffee. Had I known, I would have gone to the store the day earlier and gotten things, but now everything is closed. Instead, management thought it fit to leave a young professional to deal with disappointed customers and having to answer why there isn't even coffee available. Do better, management. read more

Very comfortable and clean hotel. Not very crowded. The breakfast buffet did not have many options and the hotel gym needs maintenance. I was a little disappointed because I picked the hotel for the gym and half the equipment is not working properly (cable machine doesn't run smooth, treadmill wouldn't turn on, dumbbell is bent out of shape), they need to maintain the equipment. I am taking away a star because the water pressure is truly awful. I had to take a water cup from my room and fill it up 30-35 times to pour water on my head to shower because the water just trickles out. The showers are a big deal for me after traveling all day and wanting to feel clean. And yes, I turned the shower head and tried multiple settings but it just wouldn't give any more water. Down Market for a Hyatt. My room was dirty, I could write my name in the dust. The floors are cold vinyl faux wood floors, and the TV did not work. The room was not cleaned during our stay despite two request. The mattresses and pillows were not to my liking, of course that is personal and subjective. will not be staying here again. I would give less than 1 star if that was allowed. DONT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR STUFF STOLEN!!! I stayed here 2 nights with my Dad to see our annual Indiana University basketball game. When I checked in, I requested that my room not be cleaned. When we got back from the game this evening, not only was our room cleaned, but an important medical device was missing from the desk where I left it. It was not lost or misplaced...it was jacked. It is also bio-coded to me, so they can't use it or sell it to anyone. I just get the pleasure of having to buy a new one. What bothers me is that there is really no accountability. The Hyatt Place here in Bloomington has no desire to make this right. We are just little people who don't matter. They offered me nothing to compensate me. They would not even call the housekeeper because it was after hours. How nice that must be to not have to worry about late night calls after a late afternoon shopping spree in my room, and probably others (allegedly). Way to do the absolute least Hyatt Place. I would like to believe that it was an accident but I'm sorry nobody should have ever been in my room. That is of course unless that was the plan all along. If you stay at this hotel you are at risk. Hope you enjoy the uncomfortable mattress, the pillows that are terrible, the food that was garbage, and all the mechanical blinds in every room. Good: this place was for the most part clean. Provided breakfast. Good part of town. Walkable to lots of places. Bad: staff was incredibly rude and dumb. Every time I approached desk, someone was either on their phone or playing video games. Had to ask for towels. Never came back to a made up bed. Pool was out of order. Parking was expensive. I love this hotel. I've stayed here twice for conferences and both times I've had great experiences. Their location is in a really popular area, so everything is within walking distance, but they are just enough off the beaten path that there isn't a bunch of noise from the street. The back of the hotel leads to the B-Line walking trail and it is about two blocks from the convention center. Exit the front and you're a building away from the main square of the city. Staff is friendly and helpful with directions and restaurant suggestions. Breakfast is tasty and free for guests, although I believe I saw a sign that soon free breakfast will be limited to Hyatt club guests, which I'm assuming is a free program if you just register. Rooms are clean and modern. They are arranged so there is a small living room area in addition to the beds. My mom stayed in the room a lot watching TV and reading, so she really appreciated this sitting area. read more

Hotel is tired overall. The room itself was OK - that said, no housekeeping done and no instructions on how to have room cleaned and/or towels replaced. TV did not work for a vast majority of our stay (hotel wide), coffee maker in the room was disgusting and it was clear the hotel staff had never checked it, no EV charging stations (had to park down the street at the Hilton Garden Inn to charge - incurring parking expense - before moving my vehicle back to the Hyatt... All this for a cool $1,750 for two nights.. read more

The hotel is in a prime location close to many delicious restaurants. The staff are attentive and ready to help you. My room was clean and tidy. It was a long week, and I was facing a weekend of work to help out with some of Yelp Indy's events in Bloomington. And all I wanted was to find my room and relax for about an hour. Happily, Hyatt Place was clean and accommodating. I was able to park fast in Hyatt Place's parking garage and then quickly check in and get my room key. I was laying down on my bed, flipping through cable TV and zoning out before I knew it. My room in Hyatt Place was clean and well laid out. There was a gray L-shaped couch to the right of my door and then a frosted window screen, with my queen-size bed behind it. I typically have trouble sleeping in hotel rooms, despite however comfortable the bed is. But I remember getting a great night's sleep here. The TV had a decent amount of channels on it. (A few more wouldn't have hurt, but it was nice that HBO was included.) I will say, though, that my room's window faced the giant light-up sign of the bank next door. Thankfully, the black-out blinds lived up to their name! Some other pros for Hyatt Place: Parking overnight only cost $7, and you can drop your room key into a box when you leave the parking structure, to make it easy to add the parking to your room tab. And Hyatt Place has a 24/7 Starbucks. Didn't get to try this out, but happy that I could get coffee early in the morn on the way to a flight, for example. If I come back to Bloomington, I would be happy to stay here again. read more

Very poor sound insulation let us hear the sounds of loudly shutting/opening of doors in the hallway, light coughing and clinking of the roll-on shade chain of our neighbors, and the trucks passing by. As noted by other reviewers, there is a gap between the door and the floor, allowing the light to enter the room. This and the light entering on top of the roll-on shade day and night, made it difficult to fall asleep. The decor of the room is more on the modern side with newer design. The choice for the dark brown shade for the room doors in uninviting and cheapening. There are plenty of outlets for plugging in chargers. A big plus is a nice size wardrobe and drawers for storage. Also, the couch+pullout bed is modern and spacious. There is $10 per night garage parking which allows very convenient entry into the hotel via an elevator. The breakfast closes at 9:00am - host explained that its intended for business clients, making us feel unwelcome and not suggesting an alternative. The reception hosts tended to be high nosed with a contemptuous tone. We received this treatment when checking in and inquiring about breakfast. It's not a luxury hotel; where is this coming from? (A rhetorical question of course) Overall, a below average stay, despite the modern decor and spacious layout, mostly due to noise and insufficient light blocking for a good night sleep. read more

Never again! On 7/15 I checked into one room and was billed later on my Visa for two rooms. Daniel Burton, Manager, lied to me stating I requested a second room upon check in, which I did not. Scam so be aware. This is a place where certain weekends are sold out due to the small college town and lack of choices. Upon check in I only asked if we qualify for new student orientation discount or a Hyatt member discount; never for an additional room. I was given one room key access and it was never mentioned if I wanted my additional room keys... because I never ordered more than one room. Clearly a scam because I only slept and used one room. Be aware IU families!!! Reached out to Mr. Burton via email twice and a voice mail. He lied and fabricated my request to get an additional room. See his response: Sorry for the delay in getting back to you- I went through the system and found the first reservation you made.... May 16, 2022. This reservation was made as a Non Refundable and Non Changeable reservation. Meaning- once booked It cannot be canceled and it will be charged. Then on the day of arrival it looks like you arrived and booked another room through the front desk and was checked into that room. This hotel exceeded all my expectations! Especially for such a reasonable price. Great location right in the middle of restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. VERY nice, clean, and stylish decor Both inside and outside the hotel. The rooms are like brand new. Super clean. Beds are very comfortable with goose feather pillows. Modern large shower. Everything looks brand new. If you get an upper floor or a corner room you can have a beautiful view of the downtown area. The front desk concierge is open all night with drinks, snacks, and fresh fruit. Parking is in a secured covered parking garage. The front desk personnel was super helpful and courteous. This is one of the better we have stayed at. We travel a lot and live close to Chicago and have stayed in Chicago Loop area hotels numerous times.This hotel out shines most of them. The lobby area is expansive. With a huge dining room and buffet area. It also has a full bar and several big screen TVs placed around the area. The daily breakfast is quite varied and includes all the standards. They also allow pets. The staff is well versed and knowledgeable. The will bend over backwards to make sure your stay is pleasant and enjoyable. Abby, Corbin and the rest of the staff were very helpful and always there to make sure we had everything we needed. The rooms are very clean and kept up to date. The room we stayed in was very spacious with a sitting area and a king bed. The bathroom area was spotless and had all the standard items you would find. The room included a mini fridge and Iron and Ironing board in the room. This will be our go-to hotel every time we return to Bloomington. read more

Wonder how you get five starts at a Hyatt Place? Well its simple, fantastic customer service. Let me start by saying, that if you have been to a Hyatt Place you have been to most of them. They all have very similar layout for the room itself, and I don't believe I have ever had a complaint about it being comfortable or clean. So right there you enter with having 3 to 3.5 stars. Then to get that next 1-2 stars you look at customer service and friendliness. Where they get high stars is really the issues that I had with some things that happened on the WebSite when making some changes to my reservation. Not only did they resolve it but they did it in a way with great follow up and honesty. If I ever go back to IU (hopefully not in January) I will definitely stay here again. read more

The shame of it is, this place should have been a 5-star review, but serious missteps prevent anyone from grading it above a 2. The building is brand new (August, 2014). The staff are friendly and the location is great. Walkable to many of the great restaurants and bars in Bloomington. Inside the guest room it's a train wreck... First, no heat. Maintenance had to adjust heater insulation. The thermostat is locked into low fan, and no VIP mode, it's all centrally programmed. The thermostat initially was set at 80º, but then displayed temps of only 64º. I let it run for two hours set at 85º and it only raised two degrees to 66º. Finally, I called the hotel front desk. Maintenance was very quick to respond, very friendly and very thorough, but regardless of his work, the guest shouldn't have to endure a fix like that in the first place. Let's put it this way, it was warmer in the parking deck elevator lobbies than in the room. While changing out rooms at the front desk. I overheard another staff member exclaim dismay that seven guests had complained of heat issues. I understand that hotels want cheap heating and cooling masqueraded to the customer as environmentally friendly. Though how much do you save if your guests vow never to return because of the horrible experience they had with your HVAC system in the first place? Now I completely understand when you have design flaws that are tough to repair or replace with things like heating and cooling. One area completely within the hotel's control is housekeeping and cleanliness, the hotel failed horrifically. My room was littered with dirty sheets, dirty towels and dirty pillows, worse yet, there were various hairs and fuzzes on them. One bed had various red fuzzballs in the bed. The other had the hairs on the pillow cases, it was evident the bed sheets had been made, but never changed. Gross. The front desk changed rooms, but then I find long hairs all over the towels in the new room, and a heater that worked only slightly better than the original room. Bottom line, look elsewhere until they clean up and fix their heaters. read more

Everything about this place is fine until you go eat breakfast. The bagels where hard as a rock. Plus there were no Covid procedures to serve the food. No tongs or spoons for some of the items. People were just grabbing bread items with their hands. On day two things got worst. I guess they ran out of many of the items on day one and then just had random leftovers from the day before. Yep the same bagels were served again and now even harder. It was ridiculous. It would be better if they didn't even make an attempt to serve breakfast. The woman at the front desk just stood at the bar area and looked at her phone for hours. Not exaggerating. When I asked if they could supply cups for the coffee (because they didn't supply any) she just looked up from her phone and didn't say a word. Good job squeezing a modern hotel blocks away from IU campus and blending it well with college town atmosphere. Decor is slick and modern yet reminiscent of dorm living and library trips. Complementary breakfast is always a big selling point to a traveling family. Egg white options and calorie info is a first for us and makes Mom happy. Multiple Yelp high-rated restaurants within 0-3 minute walk - happiness. Enjoyed the little "nook" in the room, the crystal-like modern showers, and fruit infused water in the lobby. The pool is not huge, but is good for working the last scraps of energy out of the kids. No hot tub, sigh. Staff was very friendly. A quick recommendation - you have to explain to each visitor the fact that the elevator requires the key card swipe before taking you to the required floor. We were lucky our first ride was with somebody informed, but we observed others punching the buttons and looking lost. Good hotel option in Bloomington! read more

Booked a room three months in advance via booking.com, reconfirmed arrival time day in advance directly with the hotel. Less than an hour before we pulled into Bloomington, these bastards unceremoniously cancelled the reservation by text message with a "sorry for the inconvenience" and no assistance in finding alternate accommodation. And they charged my card the full stay even though *they* canceled the reservation. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

Very spacious double queen bed room with a decent view. All Hyatt proprieties we have stayed have a sink outside of the bathroom which is very convenient especially when travelling with family. I would like to mention Dennis with the breakfast service. My son is allergic to eggs so he took a second look at the ingredients and gave us a list of all the items he could have. He was very helpful and a pleasant personalty.His Professionalism and thoughtfulness made our stay even more enjoyable and memorable. I booked the Hyatt for my daughters college orientation at IU. We prepaid for the room for 2 nights and I called in advance to let them know that we were arriving late in the evening. Upon arrival after a 5 hour drive we were told by the front desk that they didn't have a room available and that the area was sold out because of orientation. We ended up staying at the Hilton and got the last room with only one bed ! We originally booked a double queen. I've left several messages for the hotel manager Dan but he doesn't return my phone calls. Will never book a Hyatt again ! read more

We stayed here January 4th to move our student in to IU as a transfer student. After about an hour and half we were unpacked and watching tv. My daughter jumped up because she had a bug crawling on her. Got her settled down and got back in our beds. Not 10 minutes later another one on her, this time more visible. I immediately called down stairs and requested another room. After we got down to lobby to change rooms we decided to just check out all together as we were grossed out, and we needed a good night sleep for orientation the next morning early. We brought the 2nd bug down to front desk as we checked out, and the young man apologized. He said he would refund our money and parking on our credit card. After checking into another hotel a block away we realized those bugs were bed bugs!!! Now we are doing laundry at midnight trying to get all of our possible infested items cleaned. This was a horrible experience. We threw most of our belongings away as we were t going home for a few days. Pillows and clothes and some bags were just pitched. With the visible bugs I think one could viably say it was a pretty bad infestation. I just hope this doesn't happen to anyone else it was a costly and horrible experience. We're just hoping we didn't bring them home with us. read more

You know how sometimes you pay more for something because you know they will stand behind their product and make it right if something just isn't right? Hyatt looks nice and acceptably clean at first glance...but I wonder! The prior guest's shampoo was left in the bath/shower, which indicates a cursory job was done (if any) on cleaning the shower or else it would have been discovered and removed. There was a wet towel on the floor and a sack of fast food still in the trash - the bag said "Julia" on it! Breakfast just so so. Cold eggs, greasy hash, low quality bacon. Lots of starch and carbs. No cheese of any kind....but the Seattle's Best coffee was good! The most unacceptable part of our stay in his hotel is about our pets. This hotel advertises that it is pet friendly without giving one iota of thought to what the experience would be like for persons staying there with pets. Rooms start on the fourth floor because of the parking garage. Rooms are nowhere near being close to grass! This necessitated long walks down corridors, a ride on an elevator, and more long walks down corridors to get outside. My puppy couldn't make it to the grass and pooped right on the cement in front of the entry door - (letting us all know how he felt about this hotel!!) I picked it up and I let the front desk know about the residue still there that needed to be hosed off or a pitcher of water emptied on that spot. But the spot was still there untouched 10 hours later when we left the hotel. Guests are tracking poop residue into the hotel lobby as I write because of lack of this hotel's concern. We were supposed to stay one more night. But the first night was so uncomfortable, that I just couldn't imagine doing that again!!! So we are cutting our loss and leaving to go home early! We chose this hotel because of that pet friendly promise....which they broke. I wish they just hadn't tried to pass this hotel off as pet friendly in the first place! The guy at the front desk charged us for two rooms for a second night even though we were leaving just a little past checkout time because we were so unhappy. He was totally unconcerned about my misgivings, and wanted me to know first off that I would be charged for both rooms for two nights! Just so Hyatt gets its money ...that is ALL they care about!!! They are not looking out for you nor do they care about having you as a loyal customer...they JUST want your money. If you travel with your pets, don't stay here!!! read more

My daughter and I are actually still staying here for 1 more night...been here for 5 nights, but as it is impossible to get the staff (usually 1 person under 21) to fix the issues or get a hold of a manager wishing to return a call, so I thought I'd vent here. The wifi is still working well! Good news first. Got here late at 9pm on a Sunday and checkin was easy. The room was as advertised and expected for a Hyatt Place and clean. The Teenager checking us in informed us of the no housekeeping rules without night before notification to the front desk. So at the time I notified we wanted it every day. She wrote that down in the calendar in front of us. She was also kind enough to say, while I've done this, I suggest you also remind the staff on your way out every morning just to be safe. That is it for the good news. Bad news: 1) The women who checked us in was under 21 and unable to pour a glass of wine from the bar that was open and Hyatt expected her to also manage with checkin... ok, good for her for following the state law. Bad for Hyatt for having 1 person onsite to manage the property and that person being under 21 when you have an open bar. 2) Despite my initial recorded request for daily housekeeping AND my am reminders, zero housekeeping until today...yes 4 days. Last night I had to call down as we had no TP or shampoo or clean towels and was told by a not so happy teenager that he was alone and no one could bring any up. That if I wanted it, I had to come to the desk to get it. I informed him I wasn't leaving my 10 year old alone in the room and he had to figure out how to how to at the very least bring up tp. He said he wasn't allowed to leave the front desk. Great. It is a Hyatt place but at $200 plus a night, its not camping. 3) Free breakfast. LOL it is free because it should be. Worst breakfast ever all 4 days. Forget the signs saying awesome bacon and eggs and fresh fruit stuck on the walls in the rooms....indelible and non existent is the only word to describe the slim offering. 4 mornings: zero bacon, zero fresh eggs (cold, cubbed watery liquid eggs 2 of the 4 mornings...no eggs in the egg dish the others), hard spicy sausage like links that weren't edible despite they looked like they might be ok to eat every day but today...today was a step up, they ran out of the sausage imposters and substituted hot dogs. Thank goodness, maybe you don' t want a hot dog at 7am, but it was identifiable and tasted ok. Zero cereal...none. Bagels yes! cream cheese no. a couple of sad apples and green oranges, or orange limes...neither edible. Asked for bananas and was told they weren't allowed to put them out. Coffee ok if you take it black and got yours before it runs out at 9am. Hyatt, seriously do better. Don't offer products you can't deliver. 1 person manning a hotel (regardless of the hour) is a recipe for disaster and puts your guests at risk not to mention its terrible costumer service...unless Hyatt Place now means Hyatt campground. Even then, all campgrounds I've been to have had more than 1 person on site. Consider putting some of the $$ you make into hiring a few more folks. This is a really great hotel. I like that they let our dog come. The pet deposit is pricey, but this was one of the few hotels that even allow larger dogs in the neighborhood. Only complaint: the lock on our bathroom door didn't work. I had to trust my wife on the honor system not to walk in on me going number 2. But honestly, that's not too bad given the niceness of the place. But if you're making a reservation here, think about bringing a long pole or something to hold the door closed while you go. Overall, I give the Hyatt Place Bloomington high marks for staff and low marks for the design. The staff was friendly and responsive - every single person I encountered. Top marks!! Whoever designed the room, however, gets no stars. I have 3 primary gripes. 1) The vanity was 3 feet deep. This means that to use the mirror, you have to squeeze in between the toilet and vanity or straddle the toilet. Either way, it was not effective. (see photo) One positive point for the sliding door. 2) Putting glasses on a bottom shelf, right side up, without a door is asking for debris to get into the glasses. (see photo) Yes, there was junk in the glasses, and no, I would not suggest using them. 3) The heater was LOUD. I've been in highway motels with numbers in their name that have quieter systems. The location is great. Easy to get to, right on the B-line trail, a block from Little Zagreb or Uptown Cafe, across the street from The Tap. Overall, if you are coming to Bloomington, bring your earplugs, bring a hand mirror, and bring a glass or some dish detergent. The people, though are great! read more

Really nice hotel in a great downtown Bloomington location. Friendly people at the front desk efficiently checked me in. The in-building parking works flawlessly with the room keycard and is worth $7 a night. The room itself was quite modern and attractive. Great bed. Nice sectional sofa that was actually clean and pleasant, with a huge leather ottoman. The flat screen tv pivots so you can watch from there of from the bed. The bathroom was great. Super sleek, nice stall shower and a frosted barn door to the room itself. Great coffee downstairs. Didn't try the breakfast. The hotel is a ten minute walk from the IU campus. Highly recommend the place over the others I've stayed at in town. read more

The hotel is stylishly designed with comfortable decor and in a great location but the hotel rooms have poor noise isolation. I heard every word my neighbors said and every step in the hallway. After staying up almost all night due to noisy neighbors and a front desk that was largely unresponsive to my calls at 4am and again at 5am, I finally got a few hours of consistent sleep and woke up later than planned. When I called the desk to request a 1 hour checkout time extension (on the tail-end of a three night stay) they denied it. I asked them if they had a note of my calls and they confirmed they did. I politely explained the situation again and they said they were sorry but that they could not help. I said I was dissatisfied and they said I could discuss it with the manager upon my 12pm checkout. I made plans to live out of my rental car for the day in order to meet their deadline and made the best of a bad situation. I think the root of the noise problem is 1/2" gaps under the door to the hallway and the door to the adjacent room on top of a hard tile floor. You can get a sense from the photos I posted. The Hyatt Place basically used nice sounding words to say F-off to me over and over. This hotel needs less tile, better doors and a customer service team whose deeds match their words. read more
