Outdated, only 1 working elevator, semi convenient location. Breakfast options are very limited; majority of the food is VERY greasy. Gym is tiny, but it does have a scale. Hotel needs to be updated this is clear. However, Kendra at the front desk is a doll and made it worthwhile. It used to be a Hyatt place so things are a bit...dated. I don't mind some character but the halls are pretty dark and it feels kinda like your grandmas old house. Now the room was clean, beds were fairly comfortable, but the toiletries and towels left more to be desired. There was like one thing bath towel. I stayed on the highest floor 5 and it pretty much seemed like I was the only one there. I do not mind that. Breakfast is cooked well, and there's ample options. We stayed at the Sonesta Select Austin North from July 2-5, and it was one of the worst hotel experiences we've ever had. We flew in from Michigan to spend time with my daughter's husband before his military deployment and hoped for a comfortable stay. Instead, we were completely catfished by the photos and descriptions online. I've stayed at the Royal Sonesta in San Juan and had a great experience, so I trusted the brand. I booked two upper-floor rooms via Expedia, but on arrival we were told the elevators were broken--and had been for a while. No warning was given. We were moved to lower floors, and the stairwells reeked. The rooms were filthy, with stains on furniture, pubic hairs in the bed and bathroom, and black mold in the shower. One room smelled strongly of marijuana. Housekeeping never came--no towels, toilet paper, or basic cleaning. When we asked, they simply said "no." The worst part: my daughter found a roach crawling on her 3-month-old baby. We found another in the bathroom and recorded it. Even more disturbing, we saw homeless individuals bathing in the unlocked pool. There are no cameras by the pool area, and no manager ever on duty. Staff admitted Sonesta took over an old Hyatt and put up a sign. The hotel is unsafe, unsanitary, and poorly managed. We have photos, video, and proof that no cleaning was ever done. Update on review: Albert refuses to speak to me or give my money back so unfortunately I had to escalate it to corporate. The worst general manager I have ever experienced. You left your customer room unsecured and unsafe and every time I call he stepped away for a meeting or isn't available lol this place is a complete JOKE. I'll definitely be having corporate review these yelp reviews and sending them my police report about how the police had to come to my room guns drawn because they also had to make sure their SAFETY was first being that we all don't know who could be in my room since it was left open for 12 hours smh. read more

If you're looking for a reasonable priced hotel to stay at for ACL Music Festival this is a decent hotel to stay at. If you're looking for luxury,nice pool,vacation like stay. This is NOT the hotel you want to stay at. Basic breakfast included,nothing fancy your basic eggs,biscuits,bagels,yogurt etc. It was convenient for us because we took advantage of what food we could have before festival to save a little money. All of the staff is really nice and friendly. But they seemed to be uniformed or poorly set up for success by whoever manages this place. Sometimes no one is at the front desk. We stayed Thursday evening to Monday morning. And our room was only cleaned once the whole stay. We had to ask for more towels for showering. So short staff is an issue here too apparently. All in all. We were pleased with our stay for our needs. We just needed a place to sleep,shower eat dinner and breakfast at and prepare for each day of festival. Be mindful of parking lot especially at night. It seems like people just kind of hangout at night sometimes. Best to be accompanied by someone and not alone. There are several things that went wrong with this stay. I would avoid this property at all cost. 1. There was black mold growing in several places in the shower... 2. The hotel advertises free breakfast and we came to the breakfast area at 8:45 and there was literally nothing left to eat. I asked the girl at the front desk and she said they ran out and would not be getting anymore food (even though the breakfast was supposed to continue until 10am. ) 3. The girl at the front desk could not care less about our concerns...she had ear buds in and was on here phone. It was if I was really bothering her to even speak to her. 4. There is NO management staff on property on weekends...NONE. 5. The towels are micro small and thin. 6. The bed mattress in very old and worn out. 7. The hotel was filthy. Very uncomfortable and misleading. The photos are not accurate. Once you make your non-refundable reservation, you have no option to complain or cancel for a refund, be warned. The guests were roaming halls and smoking drugs at all hours. Cockroaches in hallways. Hallways had no lights. The room was full of stains and bad smells. Free breakfast was published, but not true. Customer service at front desk is very rude. Limited to 1 or 2 towel sets and they challenge you if you ask for replacements. read more

We literally have a bag of meth in our room (my gf is a recovering addict) that is not ok at all especially at these prices!!! They have yet to come and I asked about a hour and a half ago the other thing that bothered me is we accidentally got locked out of room somehow latch closed behind us had to wait a hour for a maintenance person after that they threatened not to let us extend our stay because their maintenance man had to walk here like???? We picked this because of the price and with it being much lower than a lot of hotels in austin area we were a little nervous on what we would get. Ended up pleasantly surprised and happy to report it was a nice stay. Rooms are more like a suite than regular room with couch, desk and small sink/fridge bar area. No microwaves in room but there are two in the lobby. Breakfast was $6 but given the hotel low price I was ok with that and it was decent box with juice, apple, sandwich and yogurt. There are also lobby snacks and drinks for added fee. The bar area was closed, breakfast area closed as well. Staff was very nice and the rest of the hotel is decent. It appears to be an older hotel that was nicely redone. Would do it again over a Hampton or Holiday. read more

Horrible customer service, disgusting rooms, bad area, and overall an awful experience. The room smelled like burnt narcotics, mold in the shower, broken closet door, ripped up carpet, and very run down. When these issues were addressed with the General Manager himself, the issues were not addressed and he in fact blamed me for not telling him sooner. (I checked in at 130pm, immediately left for a function within 5 minutes, and returned at 330pm). I never spent more than 5 minutes in the room and I told him to check his cameras but I'm sure they aren't functioning. His ego was so strong he never waivered on changing my room or even agreeing to look at the issues. When I stated I would be leaving a review for others to know what to expect when coming to this hotel, he told me I was no longer welcome and completely cancelled my reservation and told me I wasn't welcome. I couldn't be more disappointed and would highly recommend people don't stay here. It's gross. read more

After staying at Hyatt Place in Northern California, I have grown to be a fan of their hotels. If given the right price and location, I would stay if I can. Parking is free and plentiful. Based on how Texas seems to be, you probably need a car to get around since public transit isn't that great/ accessible. (+) Their rooms are consistently spacious -- with a small bar area and living space (with a coffee table and sofa!) and as well. It gives you the impression it is a small suite except you didn't pay for an upgrade ;). (+) Another bonus, if you're a rewards member (which is free to join), you and your guests can also get free breakfast. There are plenty of options and it's actually pretty popular because there were hardly any seats! (+) they offer newspapers to read... I was able to snag a WSJ! (+) they consistently have staff onsite, they also have a small bar area I traveled with a friend and having our own full size bed was a luxury. There is a separate faucet / restroom area, too. The TV is somewhat awkwardly placed so that both the living room area and bedroom can still view it so you will get a somewhat less ergonomic sitting. One interesting bonus, if you forgo housekeeping, they add points to your rewards account, but the catch is you need to know if you need to make the decision once you check in. Some parts of the room look dated (more like sadly worn out) but for the most part, it didn't negatively affect my stay. read more

We stayed here to be close to the hospital for a family member. We used Priceline and purchased 5 days. Stay away ... place is dirty and outdated. On top of that, no one came the entire time to empty our garbage or make beds. We complained after the first day and someone brought fresh towels, but that was it. Worst hotel stay ever. read more

Check in was quick and effecient. At all times staff was very friendly and cordial. The room itself was clean and nice to have the separate sitting area. Our prob was the outer areas of our room. The elevator stank of vomit, alcohol and weed covered in a strong deodorizer smell. It was hard every time to go into the space and try not to breathe. But then our hallway stank of weed, again covered with heavy deodorizer. Doesn't help that I hate the smell of weed and my sinus react to an allergy reaction. We have a very busy, work heavy life. Was so looking forward to enjoying Austin but also wanting lots of pool time. Our 2nd day here, pool not opened yesterday, again today due to "it didn't get cleaned". Asking if it's going to be open the next couple days (here 4 nights) was told "possibly". I'll take that as a NO. Don't advertise a hotel has amenities of a pool with pics if you don't have availability. It's 90 degrees out, beautiful weather with some humidity. We're on a much needed vacation. Picked this place with a pool that doesn't let you use the pool. Again, nice staff but really Sonester ownership? Staff and management that doesn't have control to do guest care. Somewhat hard to find at first glance but finally found it from other Yelpers. The room and washroom was impeccable and clean. Given the fact that am a bit OCD... I didn't noticed any dirt. The room was typical for Hyatt looking exactly like the next across the country. Comfortable beds and a pull out sofa bed. Had a large tv, ample space to move around, a desk, multiple input slots into the tv, and anything else that is accustom in a hotel. Also the free breakfast buffet was worth the stay here. Hyatt is a good place for those overnight or two. Hotel staff are personable and friendly. Plentiful free parking front and back. Would recommend this one! However, as very frequent nationwide hyatt place guests, Hyatt corporate must upgrade this hotel's facilities to be in par with the expectations of the hyatt place brand. From elevators that are old/scratched with carpet that looks like its from 1960 to a missing corner table in our room to television channels with static to a hole in our nightstand & more - this is not what we expect in a hyatt place room. Really enjoyed this hotel! The room was spacious and clean, the pool was a nice size and the pool deck well kempt, and the breakfast buffet was divine. I had Greek yogurt with granola and dried fruit every morning, there was French toast, deviled eggs, berry compote, and this morning an ancient grain and kale dish. I only had two qualms, and that was that the staff seemed a little...gossipy, I guess? There seemed to be a lot of personal conversations taking place across the lobby. Also there are signs to keep your towels and save water but housekeeping still took our towels and brought fresh ones. I'm trying to save the sea, man! read more

I booked my stay here at the Sonesta Select Austin North and was greeted with such warmth and kind hospitality. The entire staff Anne Wilcox, Victoria Riley and Isaiah, and Bree are super accomodating and friendly. My room was crisp clean and cool (Texas is HOT) Wifi was good, breakfast selection was on point. I look forward to returning. I totally recommend staying at this wonderful location so close to literally everything restaurants ae in walking distance the property is tuck snug away from general public access. I enjoyed the pool and gym the lobby was my hang out most of my stay as the sofas are comfy and I enjoyed reading and writing in such quiet atmosphere. the hotel itself was okay. the staff on the other hand... me and my partner decided we wanted to stay an extra day so we paid an extra $117 including the deposit. it's been 3 weeks since i've been home and i never got the deposit back for both times i was charged. ($100) so i called them and they said it should be 2 weeks and i'll see it. clearly since i'm writing this review i still have yet to see it, ive called and they don't answer i had to go into my bank and dispute the $117 because the hotel wasn't gonna give me back my money because "they couldn't see it on there end" also the pictures make the hotel a whole lot nicer then what it actually is so beware! very disappointing, stay a different hotel!! read more

Starting with the positives first: this is a decent hotel to stay in when in town for a business trip. Every morning there is a hot breakfast bar where you can make different breakfast bowls. My stay also came with 1 free "craft" beer a day. I say "craft" because their version of craft is the Stella, Budweiser, etc category although they did have a couple of Texas beers to choose from. The hotel is in a convenient location where it's only a 10 minute drive to the downtown areas and there are a few restaurants within walking distance in case you wanted to step out for a bite to eat. Room and amenities were relatively clean. Now on to the not so good: The first night I was in town, I saw that there were dark stains on one side of the bedding, like a cart had run over the sheets and the wash wasn't able to get it out. I had the house cleaning staff change the sheets for my next night and I didn't have any issues after that, but not a pleasant thing to experience on your first night's stay. Also, the food here is not so good. I ordered the quesadilla the first night and while it wasn't horrible, it was pretty meh. It tasted like the bartender just threw several things together and nuked it in the microwave and ta da, here is your meal. Lastly, even though my stay came with 1 free craft beer a day, I was charged for a couple of them, which I was annoyed about. However, when I called in the next day after noticing the extra charges on my invoice, the billing department was able to fix everything very quickly, so thumbs up for customer service. Overall, not the best experienceI've ever had at a hotel but considering the value and price in relation to other hotels in the neighborhood, a decent choice. read more

We only stayed here for the first night of our trip and it was probably best that it was just one night. My first impression of the place was great. Everything looked clean and modern and the amount of space in the room was enough for two couples. The TV swiveled from the bed to the living room which was pretty neat. Major cons for me was the VERY low water pressure in the shower. That was the deal breaker. It just dribbled out of the shower head no matter how much you adjusted it. The closet space was also very tiny, so if you're looking for a place to hang a lot of clothes then this isn't the place for you. The hot continental breakfast was also subpar. Stayed 03/25/11 -03/27/11, paid $109+tax per night. Giving 2 stars because the price didn't match Hyatt brand name or the quality of service. Rooms look as described in pictures and it was nice to have a big screen but what's the use if it has very few channels. Unfortunately, the hotel need better care. The shower tiles are molded, the windows are dirty, closet is so small that if you hang your clothes the closet door will not close. Requested to change the sheets and they didn't for the second night. I could get the same quality at a lower grade hotel. Very disappointing for such brand name as Hyatt. Clean and nicely furnished common area upon entry with ample seating, a "store" section with snack foods and adult beverages, along with a free hot breakfast served each morning. The rooms are spacious. My room had a seating area w/ a couch and chair, a desk, a coffee pot w/ mini fridge and sink, and a separate area for the bed. This hotel is worn and in need of major renovations. Only one elevator worked and was very beat up. The Ice Machine on the 3rd floor had a swampy cesspool growing in the bottom of it. They also would not clean the room daily. They advertised a hot breakfast but only had cold grab and go for $6.00 The hotel hallways reeked of the smell of marijuana. They put a hold on my card for $25.00 for incidentals without asking me or informing me... The bill was $200.00 a night all in and was not worth it. This hotel was A-OK. Nothing wrong with it, but there was nothing exceptional to write about either. The rooms were spacious yet average. A mini fridge was included but no microwave. The water pressure of the shower definitely sucks and if I remember correctly, the water didn't get very hot either which was very disappointing for a person like me who likes hot showers. The breakfast wasn't anything to rave about either. The pancakes were actually crunchy. That being said, they didn't taste very good. The thing that I did like, however, was the variety of teas that they had. I definitely took advantage of that :) All in all, we didn't have a bad experience but probably won't return to this hotel if we're in the area again. read more

My brother and I stayed for three nights at the Hyatt, and I would definitely choose this place on a future trip. You have to watch a bit carefully when you're on the service road of the highway, because unlike all the other hotels along there it is not right up against the road. So look for the sign, not the building. We were happy with our digs. The room was clean, with big, comfy beds and pillows (I see other people appear to have had pillow problems - I certainly didn't), with modern styling. Bathroom had a huge tub which was nice for a restful soak after running around all week-end. Not a lot of noise, even over the week-end (I like that "I have the place to myself" feel even when you see people in the lobby and elevator and know it's not true.) We got a room with two beds, and the one way to book this was that is also came with an extra sofa-bed (okay, whatever); as such, the room was sort of like a suite, with a couch, dresser and desk in front, then the beds and bathroom beyond. For this the price was reasonable: places further into the city (with a decent rating) get crazy expensive, and this is not far from the center of town off I-35 (if you have a car; parking is free at the hotel). The TV only lined up with one bed (due to room layout; it was wall-mounted); we never even turned it on, but if that is a dealbreaker to you know that this could happen. The complimentary bath products were nice though the base note in one of them (conditioner?) was clearly juniper, because I was showering away and suddenly went, "Why do I smell like gin?" Speaking of smell, I will say that perhaps the only negative thing I can think of was the extremely strong perfume/deodorizer/whatever that they are using in the lobby. The SECOND you walk through the doors you are hit with this floral funk with a vaguely antiseptic undertone...it's just not inviting. This was not isolated to one day (i.e. they had not just cleaned something and it hadn't faded yet). Gladly you escape it once you hop in the elevator and it does not affect the rooms or halls, but they should really work on that "signature scent." Overall though, I would definitely stay here again on a trip to Austin. read more
