I came into the fluer HyVee tonight with my three kids wife and mom to get the chili and cinnamon rolls and as if waiting inline was not embarrassing enough when I got up to the counter to pay my card declined yes for $9 I was so embarrassed and the guy at the register Adrian I think it was could tell I was angry and embarrassed I told him to just give me the kids meals and I would give ours back, he smiled and quietly said don't worry about it man we got you. OK. OK. OK. So I ordered Chinese food from a supermarket. I was hungry, and it looked edible. Needed to pick up a few grocery items and while perusing the produce department I saw a "somewhat sizable" line formed in front of the preparing food section. Upon my approach I saw a variety of Chinese food in steamers with a sign saying "three meals, two vegetables for $9.99". Not feeling like scouring the town I took a chance. Yep, a chance! First off you get a lot of food for $9.99. Definitely enough for two. Nothing overwhelming about any of the selections with the exception being the eggroll. Most of the other food was bland but very salty. I have since consumed almost 3 bottles of water. I may need to consume a swimming pool. Can't compare this to any other local Chinese establishments so hard to put in context for good local Chinese cuisine. Airport Hy-Vee! This is the grocery store closest to the airport, so if you need travel supplies, it's actually a good place to stop in for a quick shopping spree. I was pleased to see that this Hy-Vee actually has a sort of Iowa pride section- where they have University of Iowa and Iowa State gear, with things that say Iowa on the side of them for no good reason. Go Hawkeyes! There's a large frozen section of this supermarket, and its own liquor store! The beer selection has a bunch of local options as does the liquor store. Parking was easy and I was in and outta there in no time. The self-checkout area was a breeze and I was thankful to make it such a quick pitstop before my flight. read more

4.10.2024 HyVee 4605 Fleur Dr, Des Moines, IA 50321. Stopped in at the can/bottle redemption area. Walked in with my cans and was told that the redemption area closed at 2p. I thought HyVee was a full service store with a smile in every aisle. No where online or the HyVee website do I see a time listed for the redemption area closing at a certain time. I wasted $3 or more in gas driving there and time with my family. I decided not to even shop inside after all this. Maybe the store closes at 2p also?? 4.11.2024 Went back and arrived at 1:45p. This time they closed the redemption area because the supervisor left. Wasted more gas stopping to try and turn in my cans. Since this is being discussed at the statehouse I will contact the governors office. Maybe HyVee can drive to my home this time and pickup my cans/bottles and deposit them at their store when they find the time to do so. I accept cash only when they arrive. read more

COVID-19 Review: Do not go into this store if you have any kind of medical condition or want to take this pandemic seriously. This store does not take the virus seriously. When I pointed out an associate a customer wasn't wearing a mask I was told that the mayors mandate is infringing on their constitutional rights. I then went to speak to a floor manager, Tyler, who didn't even allow me to finish my statement he interrupted me and told me that his boss told him that they were not to enforce the mandate and that it was up to the city of Des Moines to do so. When I asked if I was supposed to call the police he stated I could if I wanted. As I was finishing my shopping after this Incident I observed not only regular employees but the store manager not wearing a face mask. There were a couple of people in the customer area by the meat counter not wearing a face mask only wearing face shields which it has been shown as inadequate and not recommended by the CDC as a lone facial covering. When I went to check out there was another person standing by the earlier stated front end manager not wearing a facial covering. they were having a discussion and were not socially distancing. Overall it is very obvious that the store and very possibly hy-vee in general is not taking this pandemic seriously nor obeying the letter of the law in regards to it. I have submitted a complaint to their corporate office however I have no faith that anything will be done. I have also left a message to start a complaint with the mayors office. It's also worth stating that there is nobody at the stores entrance keeping track of number of people coming into the store, asking people if they have a mask or wiping down carts. This is standard procedure at their competitor stores. There is no hand sanitizer at the entrances or throughout the store. They do not have cleaning supplies for customers to be able to whip down their own carts. They had an open empty bottle of cleaner and a dry paper towels on an over flowing trash can. read more

This is one of our favorite regional Hy-Vee stores. They seem to go out of their way to hire great, positive staff. The way the store is arranged is fairly intuitive and easy to navigate. We seldom have any problems with grocery items we've purchased and 99% of the time they ring up with the right price, even for sales. They also offer special things other stores may not just as classes, events for kids, dietitian support and more. The main downside has been the Chinese food. They used to have great take-out Chinese, but then one day they must have changed staff. I got what seemed to be leftover fried chicken but with the General Tso sauce on it. The crab rangoons also got a different flavor. After that it never bounced back. I have since stopped getting Chinese food here. On our most recent visit, our son noticed a (hopefully) dead lobster in the lobster tank being eaten by the other lobsters. We wondered if they had to pay the $20 per pound for their cannibal meal. read more

Worst experience ever. It's bad enough with this virus nonsense that we have to be waiting in lines just to get simple groceries. But when you place an order for pick up and they take two or three days to fulfill it, you would think they would take the care to actually get the order right. This virus may be slowing down orders, it may be adding longer wait times, but how is it making people stupid or incompetent? I spent over $500 on this order, and when I picked it up only $100 worth of groceries were there. And I am not talking about things that are not in stock. I am not trying to get extra toilet paper eggs or anything that other idiots are stocking up on and ruining the supply chain. 100% of everything I ordered was listed in stock and available. They simply did not pull it or send it. So I drove down there a couple hours after I realized their error, and The manager assured me they would fix it. That was yesterday. I have attempted to call their corporate office and their customer service lines. But I obviously nobody is in the corporate office, and the customer service line has a 90+ minute wait time. I finally spoke to one woman a customer service rep, who could do no more than take a complaint and pass it along. That was also yesterday. So I am posting this review, in the hopes that might get somebody else's attention. I have simply exhausted every other means to reach this company. Don't blame it on the virus, this is a poor management issue. And perhaps reflective of the news reports predicting the demise of this company. I have to re-write my scathing review of this store sine management changes,But it still has a llloonngg eay to go to change simple mistakes. Mistakes an prices that don't show up at the register are fewer...but not gone. On one visit they charged me 184$ total and after I argued with them and the bice asst. mgr.ran around and checked the prices....my bill came down to 94$ !...but that is far and few between...but still too often.They are ripping people off who hurry in and out....don't watch their receipts.SO WATCH AND CHECK THEM!!! Their produce is WAY overpriced....attached pictures way too much bad produce....Wrinkled,..rotten even. They want to call this a high end shop....they they need to step up and supply the product. Onions at 1.69 # everyday price....when they are .89 or .99$ a pound all over the place...unforgivable.Rotting cucumbers,peppers,green onions...all in this store. I agree with the review saying too many flies in the bakery display case. Thay also do not want to work with you on any special orders in the bakery that should not be a problem. Seafood section is good...not great.They still offer very few CLEAN American seafood.A lot of their seafood is not PROMENENTLY marked as from China or Indonesia.It cost more...but I pay it on my small disability pay to get it.It is important to me ...and should be to you too. Clean. The assistant mgrs are SSSOO nice and helpful....at least 9 out of 10 are...their best asset. Not a fan of their food shops.But that is a personal choice. The food bar is OK if you like regular tasting food...nothing over the top to keep you from going somewhere else. I do love the salad bar if it was open until closing time. I am a night owl and go down late at night.....and 7 or 7:30PM it is closed .The store says it closes at 9PM..... I love Hy-Vee, Helpful smiles galore. I think Hy-vee is one of the nicest grocery store chains in the county. I'm not being biased either, just cause the corporate offices are here. The stores are super clean, they always have a bunch a people on staff ready to help. They employ all ages, races, and ethnic back grounds. They have a huge selection of organic, and healthy foods! Also great beer/wine selection also featuring local items! It's open 24 hours a day, and the sushi, salad bar, and hot deli food items are fantastic as well! I been all around the USA and I have to say I would put Hy-Vee up there when the best of the best of grocery stores anywhere! Glad we have them here! read more

Hy-Vee was open when we arrived at around 11pm. The prices were not as expensive as Whole Foods, but not as cheap as Target. During our visit, we were surprised to find an exotic food that I had initially tried in Peru called a Cherimoya. They sold Cherimoya (from Chile) at this Hy-vee!!! I've never seen it in any store (not even in Florida grocery stores) so I was soooooo happy to see it in Des Moines! Of course, the rarity of it made it expensive--$5 a pound! But it was nice to be reunited with the fruit I had longed for since coming back to the U.S from Peru. Hy-vee is also pretty good about offering alternative to the brand name stuff. Hy-Vee sells their own generic brand, similar to Target's Up and Up and Walgreens Nice. I wonder what I'll find at this store on my next visit! read more

This is a very convenient location for those who are waiting for s flight at the airport, it is a block away from the airport and you can get great hot foods here. Even after hours you can stop by here and grab their premade food and just heat it up. Their staff members are always friendly and willing to help. The staff at this hyvee is awesome. Everyone I've run into were all so helpful and friendly. The store is very clean and they have a good beer/wine selection. They also have a nice selection of health foods. I actually went to the back of the store to get some help on meet cuts for making beef jerky and although the butchers didn't know too much about beef jerky, they were still helpful and even attempted to cut the meet for me. The real meat cutters already left for the day so the guy who helped me didn't do too great of a job. I still appreciated it very much though! He tried! read more

I frequent Hy-Vee on Fluer since it's close to where I live. So far my experience has been hit-or-miss. I love Hy-Vee's selection- they always have everything I'm looking for. The fuel saver deals are great too! I've also loved the option to order my groceries for pick up. However, recently when I've come into the store I have felt that service is lacking. The store is constantly busy with not enough staff to keep up. I had a poor experience recently when my daughter was crying at the check out, and nobody was available to help me bag my groceries. Located just outside the airport and really easy to get in and out of. This location had something I have not see at the others. Hyvee has their own gym? This is new to me but what a good idea, go work out then grab your groceries and go home. Yes you will walk through the store a bit funky, which I noticed a few did. This is sort of like a mega store, they have the better products, a bigger selection along with an attached fully stocked liquor store. Better then some stand alone liquor stores I have been to. I love grocery shopping. Better yet, I love a good grocery. This particular High Vee appears to be one of Des Moines newest grocery stores and with that comes some perks - for example, you will find multiple sampling stations throughout the store, a cheese section worth taking Cholesterol medicine, a trail mix/nuts section that offers dozens upon dozens of snacking options (sold alongside vinegars and oils by the pound), several local ice cream options and a drool worthy meat counter (seriously - I'm not a big meat eater but that asparagus wrapped in bacon and chicken stuffed with all that is good had me coming up with excuses to take some home.) The only complaint that I would have is that the produce section doesn't totally knock my socks off and the landscaping/plant section is quite overpriced. I know my fern prices... read more

This is my favorite HyVee. I enjoy shopping here, and utilizing the pharmacy. There is a laid back vibe, and they always have poblano peppers a-plenty! Sometimes it's hard to find larger poblanos in large quantity in Des Moines, but the Fleur HyVee is on it. Also, I feel like the cashiers at this store are knowledgeable about the produce, which helps come check out time. I really like being able to come home from a trip, (airport across the street) and pop over for groceries en route to our home. Super convenient. read more

For the first time ever I decided to try Aisles online at the Hyvee on Fleur in Des Moines because I was pressed for time today. All went smoothly, my order was ready at 3:00 and following the text instructions I got there promptly at 3 to pick up my groceries. The first annoyance was that there is NO clearly marked area to park to wait for my order. Most HyVees have prominently marked RESERVED parking spots for Aisles online shoppers to park; not HyVee on Fleur! They just have randomly placed paper signs with arrows pointing half-hazardly no where, to the ground, to the sky, to the prescription drive through. So at first I thought I was supposed to park in front of the RX driveway until realizing I was blocking the fire lane. So I aimlessly drive around the parking lot trying to find the designated parking spots, which were nowhere to be found. Finally I see lines painted on the ground directing to ONE parking spot that appeared to be the Aisles online parking spot, but it was occupied by an empty car so I parked at the closest available parking spot that was literally at the end of the row. I waited down there until the "correct" spot finally cleared out and sat there for 45 minutes waiting on my order. By this time I was furious, running late, I had to use the restroom by now but was afraid to leave my car because I just knew someone would be out with my groceries the instant I disappeared into the store. Mind you I texted that I had arrived promptly at 3:00 and had heard NOTHING since then and by now it was 4:00 so I texted "HELP", and received a text back that I would need to call customer service, which I did. And then sat on hold for 5-10 minutes before someone took my call. So I explained my dilemma, she puts me on hold for another 10-15 minutes before some guy picks up and I had to RE EXPLAIN my situation. Then I find out the girl had just dumped my call over to the MLK store without doing ANYTHING to resolve my issue. So after explaining my situation he offered to have my groceries delivered which I accepted and it's now 4:40 PM and I still do not have my groceries and haven't heard a thing from anyone. All I know for sure is that my card was charged hours ago and this was first, only, and last time ever using HyVees Aisles feature because it caused nothing but angst, irritation, catastrophic failures at every level of the experience from start to present and it's not over yet. I cannot believe the level of incompetence and failure that I experienced every step of the way. Since this was the only time I ever tried Aisles I am pretty surprised at the fact that 100% of this exercise with HyVee as an Aisles pick up customer was such a dismal failure that I will never attempt it again, and I don't know that I'll even want to continue as a general HyVee customer especially when there are so many other grocery stores and delivery services out there, all competing for peoples' business. Another great Hy-Vee store in the home area in Des Moines. Just stopping in from out of town looking for a fresh Deli section and I found it. The Deli choice seem to stretch a half-a-block. Well that's exaggerated but it is huge. With happy smiling matronly ladies behind the counter making a stacked sandwich it's like going home and having mom make something for you in her cozy kitchen because she just bought your favorite ingredients for your visit. I used to work 5 pm to 3 am, so to have a 24 hour store close by when I need to go grocery shopping in the early morning is awesome. All the employees are always polite and quick to help of you are just wandering around looking clueless ( which I usually am). While they aren't my primary grocery store anymore I still go here couple times a week to pick up quick dinner of pizza or Chinese food for my husband when there just isn't any time to cook. I love this Hy-Vee! The store layout is fantastic and routes the always-heavy traffic so efficiently. The staff is friendly, the items are easier to find and they carry everything I need. The parking lot is a mess, but it's a busy side of town. The outside is deceiving in regards to how beautiful and clean the inside is. Never do the online pick up for this location. It is awful. Multiple times I have had very long wait times (would have been faster to shop). This last time made me really not want to come back as I waited a long time for my turn. Then they would take care of cars that pulled up after me!! Ridiculous. 0/10. Great store with plenty of variety. All the staff is very helpful and kind. The layout of the store also makes it easy to find what you're looking for! They have a large selection of prepared foods- pizzas, salads, sushi, Chinese food, a salad bar, a hot food section, etc. They have a small register where you collect your food and pay them if you wish to eat it in their cafeteria area. A good majority of their section has organic produce if that's what you're into! I personally love their meat and seafood section. They have wonderful fillets of salmon (love their citrus salmon filets!) and plenty of different cuts of steak available compared to Walmart. They also have pre-cut chicken wings in their chicken section! Hy-Vee is a bit more expensive than Walmart, so I'll most likely only be coming to Hy-Vee when there's something Walmart can't offer. Enroll with the fuel saver program! Purchase fuel saver items and it will save bucks on your gas in the long run :) read more

Hyvee is great! The only issue I have is that they only carry one brand of dried mangoes, they have multiple brands of prunes and dried apricots but one hyvee brand of dried mangoes and that's all. The mangoes are cubed, which if you eat dried mangoes you know that's fake, I'd appreciate it if hyvee could step up to its competitors and carry more brands of stuff such as dried mangoes. read more
