Fuck this place brought in my truck in for an alignment and asked if they could also replace a battery wire. They put on the battery wire and hammered it down upside down making unable to come off and they didn't even align any of the steering linkage correctly that they needed more time and charging me more money because they couldn't work with after market parts. Then when I bring it in to have them fix their fuck ups the were supposed to leave the keys in it so I could pick it up after hours but they couldn't do that either and I'm without a truck for the weekend. Truckee resident. Check engine light appeared so made an appointment for 8a, Friday 9/12/25. After not hearing from them by 3:30p walks back over and was told they were too busy to even look at it (or apparently even too busy to call me to say they wouldn't get to it). They suggested I bring it in "first thing Monay morning and you'll go right to the top of the list." Even got a text message Sunday afternoon at 12:30p reminding me of the appointment. Brought it in at 8a 9/15/25. When I still hadn't heard from them at noon, I walked back over and the car hadn't been moved from the spot I parked in earlier. This is how they treat their customers. We were coming down from Bay Area to Lake Tahoe. Just on Donner pass our wiper blade got broken and we had to come down with a single wiper blade on the passenger side and other mechanic (Quality auto repair) in Truckee asked us to wait five days in the middle of a winter storm to get it fixed, he didn't even look at it. it was even very difficult to drive the car locally in Truckee, but they didn't listen. They just said go help yourself. Hy-tech immediately helped us, invited my family inside their office. Fixed. The issue in 15 minutes did not charge extensively at all. They were very kind and responsive and they prioritized us in their busy schedule. Was able to drop it after hours, they communicated with me in the morning, fixed it for a reasonable price, and was able to drive home that day. As the only STAR certified smog station in the area, part of me expected them to be rude. They were the complete opposite. The parking lot was filled with cars when I got there at 8:20am on a Friday but I still got a spot and went into the office to get the smog. Most of the cars were just parked there as there was only one person ahead of me waiting for a smog and a few other people there waiting for other services. Clean waiting area, clean shop, very friendly staff. I don't live nearby but if I ever need something when I'm in the area, this is the place I would go even though they might not be the cheapest. read more

Terrible service. I called three different times and got three different answers to find finallt find out they dont smog Class A RVs but theyll smog other claases of rvs. They have done the past 3 smogs on the RV, no issues, we maybe put 300-1000 miles on it in a year. read more

Terrible Experience. Had my ram towed there due to gelled diesel in fuel and no start. Asked them before I had it taken there if they would park it inside to thaw out and put a charger on the battery and they said yes. Next day at 1:00 PM I called to check and they had done nothing and let it sit outside in 25 degree weather. Half hour later they called to say battery wont charge after only less than 15 minutes on a charger and sold me a new $120 battery for $500. Then they called a half hour later to tell me it needed a new fuel pump that would take a week to get and cost $3000. I asked if the tried getting it inside to thaw out and they said no and hung up on me. Before I took it ther they told me that diagnosis would be $200 and apply toward any repair. After it was there they said they would only apply 50% of the diagnosis toward the $500 battery charge/ instal. Next day I went there with a portable heater (truck still parked outside in 25 degree weather), put it unter the fuel tank for 1.2 hour, trucke statred right up and I left. Apparently they are the only ones in town that can perform inspections, I've gotten them done before at different places in California and the most I've been charged is $80. Which is reasonable. We have a classic car that is my husband's pride and joy. The car is 80+ years old so needless to say not the easiest car to work on. It has a very finicky Vintage Air air conditioning unit that needed to be checked out and recharged. After bringing it to another shop without any luck we brought it to Hy-Tech Auto and Smog. They were able to charge it for us and even though they were super busy and there was a thunderstorm, they took special care of our car to keep it safe and get the job done right. I met Casey at the front counter and he squeezed me in. I left for what I thought was a two hour wait but to my surprise, I got a call an hour later informing me my vehicle was ready. I have never written a negative review in my life, but this was the worst service experience I've had with any business or government office, ever. I was there from 8 am until 4:30 pm one day for a smog and brake/lamp inspection. The smog and brakes were quick, but the lamp inspection took all day, and in the end they wouldn't certify it because they claimed my fog lamps wouldn't fit in the sockets because the sockets were bad. I knew this was false but I didn't have any choice, so I took it home and fixed it in about 20 min myself. (The owner, J.R., told me if I did this and brought it back, he would sign off on it, but I should call first.) The next day, at 8 am I called to make sure he was there before I drove from Reno again. I was told he was there, but when I got there (9 am) he was not, and the owner is the only one who has the license to sign off on this. I had to wait again in their office until 1:30 pm when he finally showed up and signed off on it. The workers there did very little to keep me updated on his status, and I was supposed to wait for an indefinite amount of time, I guess. There seemed to be absolutely no urgency to fix my issue, and no compassion for the amount of time I was spending in their office. The worst part is they actually give really good service to their customers. Spending 12 hours in their office, I could see they were professional, courteous, and gave fast service to everyone but me. It was embarrassing to sit there and see them do great business and not be willing to even acknowledge my existence. Some suggestions: Tell people when they ask for an inspection, what you are going to be looking for. The shop is much better informed about regulations than customers, and they should tell you what you'll need to have fixed before you bring it in and waste your time and theirs. Also, the owner should not be the only one licensed to certify. We all know owners are free to not show up if they don't want to, so at least have someone there as a backup when you're telling people to come on in for an inspection. Also, don't say you'll be there when you won't, since people's livelihoods depend on their transportation. I'm not telling people not to go here, because they have great ratings and they are very nice to (most of) their customers. But I have to share my experience as well. So thankful for Hy-Tech. This is overdue, they're amazing. On the way up to my brother's wedding in Tahoe from SF, my 2005 Ford Escape breaks down 15 min out of Auburn on the mountain road. My brother's fiance's family knew the owners (full disclosure), but they stayed open to at least receive the car that day and saved the hassle of leaving it somewhere and losing a day. Angela was amazing, fully transparent and went above and beyond trying to find the part to fix our car. We thought all was lost, and would have to tow it back to the city, and not have the car all weekend for the many duties I had. They were able to get it back up and running within a day, and gave tons of advice on how to deal with it long-term too. It was not a simple answer either, and she called all over trying to find a rare part. Prices were fair, and they were upfront about everything. Tech Angela announced "wow, your numbers are great!". With those words, I almost lost it. I have owned this vehicle for over 60 days and didn't feel like it was officially mine without registration. Took my van into Hy-Tech because it was having a rough low idle, which triggered the "check engine" light and therefore could not be smogged. I was in a bind as I needed to use the van in the next week. They contacted me and said they needed to replace the spider injector. I told them that was highly unlikely the problem as the spider injector was just replaced within the last 1000 miles. Paid over $1,600 for that "fix", picked up van, check engine light was off and I was able to smog the van. The very next day the same problem persisted and check engine light came on. I contacted them about this and they said that they stand behind their work. I just parked my van at home for the rest of the winter because their parking lot is an absolute mess in the winter. When I brought the van back in the spring, they pulled all the error codes and tried to charge me another 80-something dollars for pulling the error code. I said that was ridiculous and they did waive that fee but JR wouldn't even come out of the back to tell me face to face. They did not even give me a read out of the error codes they had just pulled. So no, they do not stand behind their work and they screwed me over. I will never give them any business of mine ever again. Their ego outweighs their ability to fix vehicles. Completely unprofessional. Save yourself a headache and wasted money and find yourself a capable mechanic that can actually solve problems your car is having. Needed to get a smog done on my vehicle. The smog tech was about to start the test when I remembered, the check engine light was one. Due to an emissions issue I have neglected to fix. Any honest tech would have immediately stoped and told me the car will automatically fail. This tech didn't. And was about to go through with the smog test. Knowing it will automatically fail. After hauling three large horses up the hill to Truckee, my truck was stuttering as I went around curves. Travis at Truckee Tire said it wasn't a tire issue and recommened Hy-Tech. Travis even drove it over for me! Although they were VERY busy, Josh alllowed my truck to be dropped off for diagnosis. He was able to identify the problem and call me with solutions.
