What better way to celebrate my 100th review written in 2024 than with ice cream?! The previous owners sold the business, but it has reopened under the same name which I'm super happy about! If I recall correctly, they served thrifty ice cream years ago, but I was delighted to see Blue Bell ice cream served today. With lots of flavors to choose from! The location is a little quaint inside, but has some great seating outside with great views of the Superstition Mountains. My cousin and I enjoyed the beautiful 72 degree day with our delicious ice cream. We both did my trick that I've been doing since I was a kid, since I'm a clumsy one and don't like wearing my dessert. Order a scoop to be put in a cup, but topped with a sugar cone. Helps avoid the mess, but still get the delicious flavor of a cone. The salted caramel ice cream was my favorite, and shocked at the low price of $2.99 for a scoop of ice cream! While my woman friend and myself went there an hour before closing time, the place was empty... to be expected as it was during dinner time and whatnot. So happy this ice cream parlor reopened and super awesome they kept the name. This parlor brings back all the nostalgia vibes. The staff member assisting us was so friendly and happy to answer any questions we had. There is seating inside as well as outside. They offer Blue Bell brand ice cream and scanning all the options, they all appeared fresh and did not have ice crystals forming which often happens when ice cream sits. I went with the salted caramel brownie ice cream with a sugar cone. Pro tip from my cousin: have the ice cream placed in a bowl with a cone on top to avoid making a mess of yourself! Lol. They have offerings other than just ice cream including now take and bake pizzas. At the time of this review, she said the pepperoni is about $7 after tax and for the other options which are more specialty they start at about $12.25. She mentioned if we wanted to order a custom topped pizza, we can call ahead and ask the owner which is a nice option! There were bottled drinks and packaged snacks for purchase as well. After our sandwich at the Meat Slicer we went to have an ice cream. Usual we can share and should've but we didn't want the same flavor. So we each had a single scoop in a cup and what a scoop they were! The black cherry and coffee ice creams are chock full of flavor and so much ice cream! A small business so I like to give them the traffic. The ice cream was good and the scoop generous. The inside was clean but a bit cluttered, with product boxes sitting about. The person serving the ice cream, obviously the owner, was pleasant. I took away one star for the lack of a bathroom. The owner said I could use the bar next door but they had a sign "customer use only." I ended up driving to a gas station. A bit of a hassle, hence the star deduction. I would go back. read more

Ice cream is ice cream- what sets Hwy 88 apart from the rest is the customer service, variety and portion sizes. The customer service is unique and catered to the individuals who are being served. If you are a "regular" they will ask questions about conversations previously had. (How is your dad, how is the new job). Variety- more flavor options than you could imagine as well as cones, sundaes, malts, shakes, floats. Now portion sizes if you ask for one scoop at other places you get one scoop- however Hwy 88 you get double. Not only will you get your moneys worth, you will also be treated as if you are the only person in the parlor. When I went on 3/17 it was after 7:00PM line was out the door they close at 6:30PM they continued to serve, engage and laugh. Highly recommend! read more

He has 24 flavors of ice cream and also has 1/4 lb hot dogs that come with chips and toppings and are only $4.50. Found out about this place while searching Yelp for a new ice cream place for us to try. Read the reviews on multiple platforms and decided to drive 17 minutes with my family to give it a try for ourselves. Hours said the closed at 7:30pm on Saturdays, so we headed out at 6:55pm. When we arrived at 7:13pm, the place looked open because all the lights were still on and the outer metal door was not closed. But when we approached the door, the handle turned but the deadbolt was secured. There was no one working inside either, at least not visible from the front. I understand closing early if business is slow, or even a change in hours sometimes. But some updated information goes a long way for those of us who don't live down the street or around the corner. Maybe we will make the trip that direction again one day and be able to give an accurate rating of the ice cream. But tonight we went and tried the place down the street instead of the drive being wasted, so it's 1 star for now. read more
