Inside, Diner 129 leans fully into its identity. Expect the classics: tables, a no-fuss counter, and the kind of unpretentious atmosphere that feels immediately comfortable. The kitchen was in back through an open doorway, but I had a chance to look in and see what was going on back there as well. It's not trying to be anything other than a diner, and honestly, there's something refreshing about that. For my visit, I went with the smash burger and fries. The burger held its own... a solid, satisfying patty with a decent crust and good flavor. Nothing that'll keep you up at night dreaming about it, but certainly nothing to complain about either. The fries, however, were a bit of a letdown. A sharp eye will recognize them as Sysco staples, and while Sysco fries are far from terrible, when you're sitting in a small-town diner with home cooking energy, you can't help but wish someone back there was hand-cutting potatoes. It's a small thing, but it matters. Diner 129 is a decent stop if you're passing through, and given its location, passing through is probably exactly how you'll end up there.
