Hot Wells is a nice outdoor shooting range located on 290 near huffmeister. I came here for my License to carry class also. The instructors were great and provided us with a depth of knowledge. We also had to take firearm proficiency test by shooting at the target from 3 different distances. They have a wide selection of lanes available and there is plenty of parking. They have shooting range setup for 25, 50, or 100 yards distance. They actually charge per gun rather than hourly or the like. Its $10.00 per gun and you have unlimited time to bang bang. One can purchase ammo also but its best to bring your own as you can buy in bulk from online retailers for a very economical price. Also there are targets available to purchase at like $1.00 each. Overall it is a nice facility. The workers are very helpful and will guide you step by step. Safety is their priority. read more

My favorite shooting range within a 20 mile radius of Katy TX. Entire range is outdoors, which I prefer. Checking in is done inside of the trailer located in the parking lot. You can not bring firearms into the trailer. The trailer has one door for entering and a separate door for exiting. Inside the trailer are many things for sale like ammo, optics, ear and eye protection, etc. When you "check in" it is done on an iPad. You must have ID. If you're a repeat customer it only takes a phone number to look you up at check in. Cost to shoot is $10 per person with 1 firearm. Each additional firearm is an additional $10 dollars. While on the range eye and ear protection are required at all times. There is not a time limit. You can shoot any casing material you wish. There is a separate side of the range for pistols and for rifles. Distances to shoot for pistol side range is from 7-25 yards. Distances for rifle side range from 25-100 yards. On the rifle side each lane has a chair or stool to sit at. Each shooting bench has 3 sand bags, a shooting rest, and a spotters scope. There is a separate section of the range for skeet shooting. There is also an additional section that appears to be a law enforcement only shooting section. HW offers multiple classes. You can check what they are on their website. I have been coming here for over 7 years now. Very economical to shoot as they charge per gun shot and not per person so it's very reasonable if two or more people are going to shoot the same gun. They have improved their pistol range within the past year. I also like taking their tactical pistol classes which greatly improve your ability to learn how to shoot your handgun in a defensive situation. They also have nice skeet ranges along with their rifle range which offers shooting distances of 25, 50 and 100 yards. read more

It's pretty much my go to range now a days , they bumped up the prices but still cheaper than most , it's at 14$ per gun no time limits , no preference on ammo either (you can shoot steel case) Rifle ranges are 25 yards I think .. and 50-100 yards Pistol range is at 15yards and a couple at the end I'm guessing 20 yards or over I'm not sure since I've never used them , shots have to be spaced apart no mag dumping , typical for most I guess They have target change at certain times so if you use up your target you have to wait till it's time for them to change it , but it's no big deal , 1$ if you want it changed too , not free , again no big deal I always take my own cause I like the big silhouette targets Restrooms are walking distance behind the main office and are ok , and skeet shooting is also in the back , believe it's 12$ for a round of 24 clays . Overall it's a good place , I like the fact that if you look like you know what your doing your pretty much not bothered , I was gonna give it 4 stars but since most the things that could be considered Conns are mostly just me being picky I bumped it up to 5 .. so to each his own ... can't really say anything bad about it .. go try it out for yourself . read more

I have been to Hot Wells several times on visits to the Houston Area. Their prices are reasonable and the staff is very helpful. The pistol range is different from most I have been to. The employees actually change targets for you. The problem with this is that you can't shoot a few rounds and view your target. You're pretty much stuck with the same four small bullseye targets until the line becomes cold. I haven't seen anyone acting unsafely while on the firing line, which is a plus. The staff seems to be high school aged kids, but even though they are young, they make sure the rules are followed. Only allowing skeet/low powered shotgun loads, members only. An employee had a negligent discharge a little while back resulting in a fatal accident with a customer. In addition to encroaching real estate purchases demanding less noise from the range this place has effectively been neutered by bad luck. Unfortunately it seems the range may not recover from these setbacks. read more

They get a star for the good prices and a star for letting you shoot as long as you want. So I went here to Hot Wells Range recently. I was meeting up with a group. Bought 5 targets because I was planning to stay after and do some target practice. As time passes I shoot for 4 hours and my initial target is still there with like 75 holes. No one has changed it. Then I was getting ready to leave I talked with the young man at the counter (Btw all the people that work here are between 17-25 looking). I told him I bought 5 targets and didn't use any. He offered no refunds just to pick up some extra targets from the guy at the range. So I went and talked to the guy showed him my receipt for my 5 targets and he said he couldn't give me the 5 paper targets and he could only offer me 2 premium targets. Then on my way out near the exit it was extremely slippery, almost like someone poured engine oil on the ground. I walked out of the range and slipped and fell on the ground. Scrapping my knee which 5 days later I still have scars. Lucky I didn't have my loaded rifle on me! It could of gone off and killed someone else! None of the employees asked if I was okay or anything. My jeans were ruined, the next day I had to wear shorts to church. PS. I tried to contact them, but they seem to no longer have a website, only a FB page and the email section is blank. Also didn't let me review them on FB you can only comment. read more

Pow, Pow, Pow....I feel invincible! My friend took me to his old spot to shoot. It was impressive. Be careful as you head into the parking lot, it's gravel and there is a small dip/hole so take it slow and easy. Make sure you have glasses and ear plugs - they are mandatory. If you don't, they do sell them but be prepared to pay. First of all, they have the cutest dogs ever. Very friendly and OMG, totally wanted to take them home. It's $7.50 per gun which is really reasonable. Once you get to the lanes, you give the range guy your ticket and they put you in a lane with a target number. And then you shoot....woohoo. I had a blast, my friend was so patient and I'm super excited about getting my gun, license and more practice shooting. Did I already say that I love the dogs....they also have skeet shooting and rifle shooting. My friend said we'll try that next time. Will definitely hit this place up again. read more

Rifle range (100yd max) has covered shooting area, chairs and spotting scopes at every lane. If you come during late afternoon the sun may be in your eyes due to the shooting lanes pointing to the west. Hardly a gripe tho, I mean its $10 to shoot as much as you'd like. I wish they had drinks for sale and their water fountain located on the pistol range has been broken since the dawn of time. Porto-Pottie are used as permanent restrooms with is definitely a CON. I'll start off by saying I've been going to this range since I was 12 years old, a repeat customer for 10+ years, now I am 24 and this range will NEVER get my business again... if I could give 0 stars I would.. The trailer check in guy(Nicolas) was completely rude, very unprofessional, as well as talked down to my buddy and I more than likely due to our age. Very disrespectful. He tried to over charge me and caught a attitude with me when I brought the concern to his attention. Not to mention he informed me that starting July or August the 19th I believe that being a non-member I'd have to pay an additional $80 dollars to "qualify, bc their is alot of new gun owners" before I can use the pistol range.. even as a LTC HOLDER you'd still have to pay the fee. Makes no since and a shame on the owner. This range has gone down the hole and will lose tons of business. DO NOT GIVE THIS BUSINESS THE TIME OR MONEY. I have a love/hate relationship with this place after going for the first time. Pros: -Really nice facility. Tons of lanes, all of which are shaded. Spotting scopes are provided. -They allow steel case ammo -Range officers go out and put up your targets for you -Rifle range allows you to shoot 25yd and 100yd targets in the same lane Cons: -Admittance can be steep, as they charge $10 per gun. It cost me $40 just to get in the door. Yikes. -Rifle range is limited to 100 yards -No rapid fire -None of the "range officers" seemed like they were old enough to legally drink -The staff puts up your targets for you, because you're paying them $1 per target. Want splatter targets that you can actually see? That's $2 per target...highway robbery. Whether Hot Wells is a good value or not depends on your intended use. An hour practice with your pistol? You'll probably be out $11, which is a great value Spend half a day shooting every gun you own? My friend and I dropped nearly $80...not so good value. read more

My wife and I just got back from here after 250 rounds on the pistol range. We got 2 new targets for $1 each and $10 for 1 gun. It was a $12 date for 2 people not including ammo($60 at Dicks with 100 rounds left over) and it was so much fun. The attendant(Joe) was very nice and helpful, not bothering us, but throwing out some pointers which helped. There was someone rapid firing an AR(10/15), which was taken care of quickly, especially considering how loud 5.56 bullets are compared to 9mm(averaging between 40-22s) on the pistol range. It was also clean with Joe sweeping up as it died down(we were there for a while), so it was a great experience and I will keep it in mind for an awesome and very cheap date idea. read more

It's close to my house in Bridgeland. This is not a five star looking place no food or drinks just practice shoot that's it. It's mostly staffed by young kids, not overly friendly but cannot say they are rude in any way either. Shot my small handgun for 10 bucks paid at their trailer. Note they were about to close and they still fit me in, liked that. First time at a range so my ear plugs were not up to par when the next guy is shooting his Desert eagle full blast ouch...ring....... hopefully no lasting damage, overall I'm pretty sure I'll be returning here to gain experience in firearms. PS they should advise on safety equipment safety glasses ear muffs speacially for newbies like me..etc.. Overall great place why not!! read more

So I came to visit from California to as my family & go shooting for my first time & for the first time shooting it was the worst experience. They are all very rude & disrespectful. Then they let us buy ammo for the shotgun then when we went to go shoot it they told us we didn't have a stock & that we can return the ammo which we were whatever about but then when we went to go return they told us we couldn't & then didn't want to give us a refund for the gun entry . They wanted to give us only a rain check but then we continue to tell them that we never coming back so give us our money back. So terrible there. Don't recommend to anyone. read more

Hot Wells range fees are very affordable, so that is a plus. They also have a zero-tolerance policy for unsafe behavior, and that is another strong point. Human silhouette targets are not allowed at the range as of this writing. I personally disagree with the policy, but it is their range and their rules and we either have to respect it or leave. If you go there hoping to prepare for your CHL and do some diagnostic drills on a B-27 regulation target, you will be told "No". There are other ranges for that. The lack of overhead protection on the handgun range was disappointing. If there is a chance of showers, you will have to check on the local weather unless you like shooting your pistol in the rain. read more

DISCLAIMER - I am by no means a shooting expert. However, I can give woman's perspective on the place. I didn't know what to expect when I first went and was even hesitant to shoot at an outdoor range. It just seemed a little to rough and huntsmen-like for me. Frankly, I didn't know if I would fit in. I was wrong to have such concerns. My husband and I spent about an hour here for my first class on shooting a pistol (informally given by him - though they do offer formal classes). There were plenty of workers to answer our questions (he even had questions since he's used to military operated ranges rather than civilian), and the staff was friendly but stern on their policies. That made me feel safer. The rules are plainly stated and they have a zero tolerance policy on gun safety. Act stupid or unsafe, and you are out of there. Don't let imperfect weather steer you away from Hot Wells. Even if there is a little mist or rain the in the air, coming here is worth a shot (I'm funny.) because there is a roof above all of the booths anyway. I called around before showing up at Hot Wells and we chose them because they are near us, but also because they were the cheapest. They charge per rifle, not per person, and there is no time limit. I like that, too. For $7/rifle or pistol you get to bust some caps. How's that for a deal? read more

You never know when someone might feel like taking advantage of you so practicing on my targets makes me feel safe and more confident about blowing someones head off should they ever attempt anything. You hear advertisements for higher priced indoor ranges that talk about the ventilation system so you do not smell like smoke, well how about being outdoors? The employees were helpful and eager to help make your experience a good one. Just a bunch of "good ol' boys" but would you want anything less? The one drawback was that your target is stationary. You can not retrieve it yourself remotely. And if it rains, you are covered but your target is not. I am going to shoot my guns, not have tea and crumpets. read more

I went with a group of friends for some skeet shooting on Saturday and the employee had the worst attitude towards us and showed resentment for us the whole time. It threw off the mood for our group and we did not enjoy it, thankfully we also brought pistols so we ended up having a good time at the pistol range. If you are in the mood for skeet shooting I recommend going elsewhere. read more

The prices are great, the employees are courteous and safety conscious, and the facilities are expansive. It gets extremely busy on the weekends so go early. Check the rules there are several things that are not allowed here but you get great bang (pun intended) per buck. I've also taken classes with Gary Lamar and he's a good instructor. It's a bit far for me but this is the preferred location for skeet for all my coworkers. I live closer to several other ranges that have more upgraded amenities but I can't complain at Hot Wells, it's served me well. This review is for the range and the LTC class. My wife and I go here occasionally and we have taken both our families here to shoot our pistols. There are two things I don't like about the range. No rapid fire and you have to wait for the range officers to change your targets. With that said I like to shoot here (when it's not too hot outside). I've always had good service here. I've never witnessed any unsafe practices and I keep my eye on what's happening when I'm shooting near people I don't know. The price is right and I've never had to wait to shoot. My wife and I did the LTC class here together and we both agreed that the instruction was great. The class size was small and the instruction was personal. The price was attractive too compared to other locations. I would recommend the class for anyone looking to get their license. Looks like the place is getting completely overhauled currently and I can't wait to see and try the finished product. read more

Nice little outdoor range.. They've done a lot to it over the last few years. However, they could stand to refurbish the benches on the rifle range and get new spotting scopes. The scopes are currently worthless for the 100YD targets. The seats are kind of close on the shorter lanes and I have had hot casings from the guy to my left land on me. You can give the guys your own target and they will place them for you when they change targets once an hour. $10 per gun for unlimited time is nice when you're breaking in a new gun. Ammo prices were comparable to Walmart and they have a large selection. *Update* They have really made some nice changes to the range since I wrote this.
