Set up as an intimate bookshop/dinning room, everything here yells 'homey'. They give you crayons and dominoes to play with, and the books are not just there for decoration, they can actually be read. Now things on the menu are more on the costly side, but the food here is good, so it is worth paying a little bit more for good food. The slow cooked lamb is a clear winner! But they are also have a few seafood options. And just putting it out there that the wine here is great, so if you are a lover of good wine you will not be disappointed. Also, even though it could be considered pretentious - this place is not at all! The workers here are nice, and you get a very 'down to earth' feel. So if you are looking for a good place in the suburbs this is a good option.

Who liked great music, books and who did things without any care whatsoever about what was on trend or the latest design - who just threw away the rule book and did exactly what he wanted. It occurs to me that whereas some new restaurants strive for a minimalist atmosphere this place is the exact reverse. Nothing about it is minimalist. There is clutter - which is good. Our table is huge, absolutely gigantic with so much room for everything. The glasses are big, the servings are ginormous, the chef is a man mountain. He probably doesn't want a new nephew, which is a pity, because I would adopt him as an uncle in a heartbeat. What a fantastic honest place this is! BYO ...everything. Everything! Champagne, Pinot, Sauternes you name it. And I'm thinking to myself how fantastic the sound system is and what brilliant classical guitar music is being played and I look over and it's a bloke playing live! But not really loud and drawing no attention to himself - as if he's just part of the room at my new uncle's place. I asked the the lady running the place if she would please pass my compliments to the chef on the beef cheeks but she said she would rather not because he is her husband it would just go to his head. That would make her my new Aunty! The food is really great. Honest generous and beautifully executed. My family had the special spaghetti with clams, the spatchcock, the beef cheeks with gnocchi and the 8 hour lamb. We had some lovely starters and the deserts were delicious. All the classics are there and everyone loved their deserts. I would write a great review of the wines except that I brought them. Did I mention that uncle Nutmeg doesn't mind if you BYO anything? It's so great to find a welcoming place with great food at real value. Packed with obvious locals, the white pants, boat shoes, white hair, and blue striped polo shirts a dead giveaway. They are lucky to have such a great local!

The ingredients are pretty good, they have lamb, lettuce, onion, all of the usual things you would get in a salad. I like these ingredients but only a couple I don't use, these are the jalapeño and the beetroot I am not a big fan of these two ingredients. But even though these ingredients I don't use, the food is really good quality and always taste amazing, I would recommend this restaurant.

Lebanese aromas of hommos, falafel and grilled eggplant waft through the air, beckoning visitors in to the restaurant that is wall-to-wall packed with people on weekend nights. The cozy, one-room eatery has a convivial vibe, with lots of happy chatter amid the delicious smells. There's also some sparse patio seating, as well as a little bar area near the entrance. Make a reservation on weekend nights to get a seat right away. When I went there a couple weeks ago, it was only about a 10-minute wait, but I watched as parties continuously walked in all night to get their fix of the tasty offerings this restaurant features. It was easy to see why this restaurant, which underwent renovations this year, has been going strong since 1976. I was greeted immediately by owner/chef Fadi Constantine, from Beirut, who had a giant smile and mingled with tables throughout the space. The BYO menu (you can bring wine only) is full of dozens of shared plate entrées and larger mains, and I'd recommend ordering a bunch of smaller plates to try for the whole table. I could get a whole new order next time I go -- everything I had was delicious, and there were so many more mouthwatering dishes I can't wait to try next time. I started with the hommos ($7 AUD), which came with a thick stack of pita bread and was the perfect thick and creamy consistency. The bread was soft, not soggy, and the starter was really filling. The falafel ($12) was another classic and stellar choice, drizzled with tahini and served with pickles. The patties were thick and moist. I loved the generous topping, and everything went well together. Haloumi is always a must-have in Australia, so I was delighted there was a haloumi dish that came with another one of my faves, kalamata olives ($14). Wrap the haloumi in pita, and it's heavenly, or eat it on your own, which I loved. An order of batata kezbarah ($12), diced potatoes with spices, lemon and garlic, perfectly rounded out the meal. The dish was filling, and I loved the Lebanese spices that covered the potatoes. Pair your meal with a speciality cocktail, beer, cider or glass of wine -- again, there are dozens to choose from. Besides the menu that was a knockout with everything that was ordered, the service was swift, attentive and friendly. You really feel valued and at home in the restaurant, which made for such a fantastic experience.

I went into Calibrate mainly seeking a public restroom, a tourist lost in Manly, but I came back when I spied their Finca la Bella. A gentleman working spotted my interest in the beans and offered to make my partner and I a fresh batch of hot coffee using the beans. The notes were amazing--white nectarine, honey, and chamomile--truly a well-balanced cup of coffee. My partner who doesn't even enjoy coffee loved it black. I enjoyed my conversation about their methods and sourcing of beans and appreciated his generosity. If there were any coffee place I'd tell you to stop by in Australia, it's here. The vibe of Calibrate was a clean, minimalistic coffee shop. The aesthetic is pleasing for pictures; from the latte art to the cups to the very machine that produces your coffee. Staff is well-informed with their coffee knowledge as well as accommodating. When I come to Australia again, this will be on my top places to revisit.

Inability to manage the tables (which includes basic clearing away of finished meals and coffees) means that in the space of 30 minutes I watched 4 groups of people give up and go elsewhere. That would have been 13 meals/orders. Next time, clear the tables and inform people wasting time that there are other people queued up and waiting to dine. If I was the owner I would be very disappointed with 3 staff sitting around, chatting, and customers going elsewhere because of basic tasks not being done. A quick review of your dockets for Saturday 12/09/2020 will likely show a pretty meh/average day.
