The bacon was Australian style as opposed to what Americans are used to. Although a departure from what I would normally order, I enjoyed it nonetheless. The sourdough toast was a great accompaniment. With a flat white coffee, I couldn't ask for more.

The coffee is good, perhaps even very good, but what makes this place is the food. Specifically the baking. Their croissants, eclairs, lemon tarts and quiches are superior to anything I've eaten outside of Europe. (Possibly excepting one or two five star hotels and megabuck restaurants.) Yep, that good. The location is pretty good too. Plenty of sun out front and enough street action to watch and not enough to deafen. It is on quite a slope though. This means that one has to drink down one's coffee before it can safely be left on the saucer. The outdoor furniture, while characterful, is spectacularly uncomfortable and it is this, rather than anything else, that stops me giving it a fifth star. If you know what good French baking is supposed to be like, check this place out. I live miles away but it's fast becoming my local!

But then the polish disappeared, and the service went down hill fast. Starting with the barista. The man makes an extraordinary coffee, yet is exceptionally precocious and arrogant. His sarcastic remarks and all round distracting behavior further puts the girls running the till behind on their job, resulting in misunderstood orders, over charging and lines out the door of people waiting to be served. Running a cafe is no easy quip but this place could be so much more if they refined a few areas. Start with making sure supply meets demand on a Saturday for the delicious baguettes. They should train their staff in attention to detail, and put more than one person on the till on a Saturday morning. I'm still a fan of the coffee and the aesthetic of the place but I certainly won't keep going back if these things continue.
