I live downtown so there's unfortunately not a super convenient VH location for me to patron more frequently. But whenever I head out to my friend's house in Woodbury, I always make a stop here. Hands down, they have the best marinated chicken breasts in the Twin Cities. They trump Lunds/Byerly's in the categories of: - Sheer size (one breast is easily enough to feed 2 adults) - Seasoning variety (garlic, bbq, cajun, dijon, lemon pepper, tomato basil to name a few.) - Price (consistently less per pound than the Lund's equivalent) And we haven't even talked about the beef, the chops, the sausage or the jerky, which are all super high quality. Von Hanson's also gets an extra star for selling Heggie's Pizza out of their frozen coolers. It feels sacrilegious to enter a meat market and buy a frozen pizza, but if you've never had Heggie's you'll have to trust me that this is no Tombstone. By far the best frozen pizza on the market. They typically carry one of everything, but not necessarily a lot of variety. But that's ok! I love that all the people that work there are townies, and the cashiers are generally SSP Packer High School students. I'm grateful for Knowlans for being the place I can run to quickly for that last minute ingredient or item. However, Knowlan's is rarely a place I go to when I need to do my weekly grocery shopping. The lack of variety and hit-or-miss or hard to find produce usually drives me regrettably to Cub or Rainbow.

I was walking through the supermarket and after reading a recipe, I was putting ground beef and bread crumbs and the rest into my cart when I had a thought. There are frozen meatballs, right? So I put my stuff back and headed to the freezer aisle at Publix. With a BOGO on Simek's meatballs, it was super easy to grab two (huge) bags of meatballs and head home. With the pasta and some Rao's marinara sauce, a half dozen of Simek's meatballs and a healthy portion of fresh grated cheese, my craving was solved. These are bite sized, flavorful and delicious! I have a bag and a half remaining and while my craving is sated (for now), I'm looking forward to a repeat. Or maybe I'll get a sub roll and make a meatball sub. Can't wait! They came with a pack of tortillas and salsas. People were very friendly and this was all in Spanish. They have a variety of products from South American as well not just Mexican products.
