He has a way of listening and speaking that makes me feel like I matter, and my desires are worth listening to. He is an incredibly talented Dr and I am so grateful that I was able to have my second delivered by him. I don't know how this is possible but he doesn't seem to have been jaded by the medical field nor is he a slave to the system - he is one of a kind and an excellent advocate for women. I come from a family of Doctors so I say this with respect -- but most have an ego about them and I have felt patronized and dismissed by some. Dr Cobb is not that way at all. He is both confident and humble in his care. He made me feel safe and cared for. He has a way about him that is integrous and highly capable. If you are a mom carrying a piece of you into the world you probably feel both the heavy responsibility and fear of getting it right. Personally giving birth has been one of the most important moments of my life. Having the best Doctor by your side makes all the difference

Where should I start... After my early miscarriage last…read moreyear, I was devastated. I was trying to find an OB who was willing to offer extra care and tests before trying to conceive again. Other OBs did not think it was necessary since I was young and it was "only" my first miscarriage. I was too scared to try again until someone recommended Dr. Cobb. Dr. Cobb respects and truly understands my concerns, and he was willing to take extra steps to ensure my pregnancy was closely monitored. He made me feel that I had a certain level of control over my pregnancy, rather than simply being instructed. During delivery, my baby's heart rate was unstable for five hours, and I was unable to make further progress after reaching eight centimeters dilation. I asked whether it was time for an emergency C section. Dr. Cobb eased my mind and placed additional monitors to carefully track my baby's heart rate. My baby boy was ultimately delivered safely through a vaginal birth. I feel incredibly blessed to have had him as my OB throughout this pregnancy. Every visit made me feel respected, well cared for, and reassured. I would recommend him to everyone in San Diego!

Kayti allowed me to be in active pushing for over 4 hours and expressed no concerns. My family pulled her aside on two occasions expressing their concerns regarding the prolonged time and belief that my baby was in jeopardy. Kayti insisted that it was completely safe for me to continue pushing. My family had to intervene and call 911 against her recommendation to get me to the hospital. Upon arrival, the hospital team catheterized within seconds. Kayti and team tried to do a catheterization multiple times at home and were unable to do so. My delivery and its aftermath revealed multiple critical health concerns which were related to a high stress prolonged birth: my baby's cord blood showed excess acidity, indicating high stress levels and posing a risk of brain damage; my baby's glucose levels were low, requiring 24 hours of monitoring; and my baby had difficulty regulating his body temperature, dropping as low as 94 degrees Fahrenheit, necessitating placement under a heating lamp. All these complications relate directly to a stressful and mismanaged labor.

No words can truly describe the experience I had with Kayti but I will try my best to write it out…read more I was referred to Kayti from my doula Rosie. She was the first Midwife and the only midwife I called to interview. I instantly knew that she was going to be my midwife. The prenatal care that I had with Kayti was remarkable. My appointments with her were more than clinical. My husband and my toddler were able to come to the appointments. I truly felt that Kayti listened to everything I had to say. She really got to know me as a whole person medically and personally. Which is really needed when you are planning an intimate home birth. During my labor Kayti and her student, Amy were there for me every step of the way. I was never scared at any point of the birth. I put all my trust in them and felt supported the entire time. This says a lot because my labor was over 48 hours and I ended up transferring to the hospital because baby did not want to descend into my pelvis. I believe that Kayti did everything she could for me and my baby boy. When she told me that we needed to transfer. I knew it was the right decision. Even then, I felt like my baby and I were safe. We then transferred to the hospital and Kayti stayed with me and advocated for me until I had to go back for a cesarean. Post natal care was just as amazing. Since I did not get to have the birth that I had planned at home, Kayti planned a rebirth and a bone closing ceremony for me at my home at our last meeting together. That was exactly what I needed emotionally and spiritually. This just shows how thoughtful and loving Kayti is. My baby boy didn't come into this world as expected, but it was his own unique story and Kayti was apart of this unforgettable experience. I am forever grateful for her and Amy.

I first called on May 13th, 2025. Between then and May 29th, 2025 I called a total of 16 times. Most of the time, I was placed in a queue where I was typically the first or second caller waiting, and then would be re-routed to a message center. At first, I would leave a message to get a call back, but would never hear from anyone, so I resorted to just continually calling until I got through to an actual person. While this person was pleasant enough, they let me know that the appointment coordinator would have to be the one to get me set up. I would then have to repeat the process of providing my name and contact information, and was told the message would be relayed to said coordinator and they would be in contact. I have never been contacted by this facility, and I honestly stopped trying after the 29th. It is now June 5th, 2025 and I would be SHOCKED if someone ever did get back to me if I am being completely honest. During this time, I went through some things medically that I won't get into, but because I did and was desperately trying to get seen by this facility with no return response, I felt so dehumanized. Even after explaining what had happened and what my needs were (when I could actually talk to a person), it was like I just didn't matter enough to call back. I'm so disappointed because I felt like a few of the doctors on site could be the right fit for not just what I was currently dealing with, but for my future family planning as well. And now I will never know because the system they have in place to even get an appointment is horrific. Save your time and your sanity, and try somewhere else, because chances are you won't hear back from anyone. And if you do...go buy a lotto ticket with that luck. UPDATE JUNE 12TH 2025 - the office literally just reached out to me today, basically one month after I began initial outreach, to try to set up an appointment. At this point, I have already established care with another provider as I needed to be seen immediately. When I explained that I had done so after not hearing back, the only response back was "Oh OK, thank you". No apology for reaching out so late after the fact; not even an attempt of an excuse. I suppose the only silver lining from the situation is that I did ultimately end up with a different provider who genuinely cares and communicates effectively with me.

I still have not heard back from this office over one month after requesting to schedule an…read moreappointment. If it is this difficult for something as simple as getting on the schedule, I shudder to think how difficult it will be to actually receive timely quality care. No interest in finding out.

I can appreciate his expertise and guidance, especially given that I'm not an easy patient. I've got a complicated history, including thyroid cancer survivor, arthritis, and a host of other conditions. He is the absolute best! So much so that I've followed him from their Sherman Heights clinic to Escondido, and have had several phone visits as he is a director now, too. I would highly recommend. Every staff member I've encountered at SYH has been kind and empathetic, and they work diligently to take care of myself and others. I think it's important to note that no medical office or provider is perfect, and that I and you aren't their only patient. Learn to communicate with your provider and their staff, not against them. I've had to do a lot of work on my end, too, and while mistakes have happened, I can certainly attest to them being corrected forthwith. Then again, they know I'm a force to be reckoned with. I will say that like other patients, the call center is my consistent gripe about San Ysidro Health. If an issue is that urgent, stop by the office, or maybe go to the ER. Dr. Ortiz takes his time to listen to his patients and to build a relationship. It's not something that happens right away, though. Lay the foundation. Ask questions. Do your own research. Ask more questions. Get records transferred. And call for an appointment with him!
