From the outset, it was clear that they were deeply invested in my success and personal growth. Thanks to the dedicated staff and inspiring environment, I rediscovered my passion for hair and beauty, which was practically lost due to the toxic environment and staff of my previous school. I learned more in the 3 months attending this school than I did in the entire year at my previous school. Additionally, I was able to learn facials here, which has inspired me to add that service to my repertoire. The teachers are very encouraging and passionate about their work, doubling as my mentors. Their approachability was evident in their willingness to go above and beyond for their students. I transferred into this school stressed and depressed from my previous school's toxic staff and environment, simply wanting to complete my 1500 hours. However, as I finished up my last few days at AMIC, I felt sad and didn't want to leave. I planned to arrive at 8am when they opened but I was running late, I arrived around 8:15am. I was greeted by the girls at the front desk and told them I've never been there before. She had me fill out a beauty card, with my information and asked what services I'd like. I wanted highlights and a toner, no haircut. The partial highlight (20 foils) is $20 & the full highlights are $30. I said I'd pay for the full, even if I didn't end up getting the full because I thought I might need more than 20 foils. The girls at the front desk called over an instructor to give me a small consultation. She agreed that full highlights were probably the best option & toner was included in the price. You pay before your service is started. (Don't forget to tip these girls!) Destiny (spelling) was my stylist and she was absolutely amazing. She took her time, was very professional and nice. I'm so glad I found her because I plan to return to hopefully see her before she graduates. It's always a little nerve-wrecking when you go to a new stylist, especially girls who are trying to get started in the industry & learn. But, I left there very happy. She picked a great toner to give me a soft/beige blonde, no brassiness which I am SO happy with! I've told my good friends who are looking to get their hair done as well as my family. She answered yes enthusiastically. I get there at my appointment, my stylist was going to dry cut my hair (4 type) without washing or styling first, which isn't what you would do with 4 type curls. During the wash, she did not use specific shampoos/conditioners according to my hair or scalp health, she just saw my hair was coily and used a "thermal helper" shampoo, and she didn't even wash my scalp. I ran a finger over it after it was wet with left a residue of gunk. Scalp was still dirty! She attempted to blow dry my hair, which took 2 hours and 40 minutes just to look like my hair was air dried. I was furious. She then asked a second stylist to help straighten my hair and the final result was MY AT HOME blow dried look. Her boss cut my hair and i was charged almost 40 dollars. The next day, complete fuzzball. My hair reverted within a day and it's an itchy mess. Furious. You would think students learn to do HAIR, not just straight hair! Felt like such a laughing stock
