Called and booked a facial apt. Showed up on time, but they were closed due to an electrical or plumbing problem. Why did they not call me to tell me?? After that, when I called to try and book another apt, NO ONE ever answered the phone. Not a good way to run a biz. Finally got the facial. The student was v. nice and pretty good. But the hour facial ended up being only about 50 min. I had an apt, but when I got there, was told the student was on break. What the heck?? then took another 15 min or more to get it all set up. If this is how they are teaching their students to work in the real world, they are not going to make it. The place was v. clean and had a friendly atmosphere. But they seem to be dropping the ball on customer service. If no customers, how are the students going to practice, and learn, and be able to work in the real world? read more

I went there for a full set of highlights, they only did baby highlights. The girl I had was very nice but I think she was stressed because I had to go at a certain time. So, she was pulling my hair when doing the foils and like everything turned into a tangly mess. The highlights itself took like 3 hours so she didn't have time to blow dry my hair which broke my hair. And I asked for Carmel highlights and I didn't want a money piece. But when I got home my bangs turned like a yellow orange so I don't know if they didn't do the toner right but I was very upset. But overall she was super nice and so was the staff. read more

I had such a great experience with a student named deyala! she did me a nice wash and then did a blowout and did it so quick and perfect!

I went yesterday to get a balayage dye and a hair cut. The balayage turned out very well and was done by two students. The haircut on the other hand was done by the professor and wasn't done well at all, the layers were choppy and lazily done. I asked for longer in the back and shorter in the front gradually but it looked like a bowl cut with a rat tail at the back. I had to contact a family member to fix it. Only recommend this place for hair coloring. read more

Well, I used to like coming here but I won't be back now! The last time I was here I waited about 15-20 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, not a huge deal but when they make such a big deal about being on time for your appointment it's kind of comical. But I had an appointment scheduled today for a color and cut and find out when I get there after waiting for 10 minutes that my stylist didn't even show and no one else can do it!! Seriously?!?! That was it, didn't offer me anything off my next service or anything! I'm done, I won't be back! What horrible customer service!! Just horrible! read more

I'm updating my review as L'esprit finally made things right. However, it was done by the owner of the salon by happenstance. She was very kind and holds integrity as a business value, so we're sure she will investigate the incident but the way this scenario was initially handled was unfortunate. While I've been going to L'esprit for sometime, I will never be back here after they demeaned my 85 year old grandma. I dropped my grandma off to get her very short hair washed and blow dried. She's had this same appointment done many, many times before and has always gotten it washed, dried, and a few curls from an iron put in in 45 minutes. It's always come to $15. Simple, easy, quick. Well, this time they charged her $40 and gave her horns. They curled her hair with a giant horn on the side. It looked awful and she was dumbstruck with the price, but paid it and didn't complain thinking she misunderstood something. She was in and out in 20 minutes for over double the price. I picked her up aghast but didn't say anything to hurt her feelings... and then she told me the price. After calling and receiving some snippy back talk and a promise the manager would return the call that day, we still have heard nothing from a manager in 4 days. Someone called again to ask for more details with another promise a manager would call that day, but that hasn't happened. I'm really disappointed and upset not that it happened, but that this wasn't handled in a professional manner and that the salon didn't own up to their mistakes initially, but instead fought with her family over the phone. Instead or turning this into the opportunity to increase customer satisfaction and staff training, it was used to demean an elderly woman. read more

Unfortunately I did not have a good experience here at L'esprit..It started off with us finding out that the stylists that we scheduled with and wanted for services had graduated. I'm not sure why she was still in the system to schedule appointments. We had to wait 30 minutes for another stylist to service my daughter. We were scheduled for a wash, blow dry. and thermal press service. I had to defer the thermal press because it literally to the stylist over an hour to blow dry my 8 year old daughter's hair. As an adult my hair is longer and thicker but it has never taken over hour to blow dry my hair. I totally understand these students are learning but it does not appear that customer satisfaction is a priority. None of the instructors took note that this stylist may have needed some assistants. I hope this review helps the school reassess the services they offer and their standard of customer satisfaction read more

I had the most amazing experience today at the student salon. First, I called and left a message and received a call back within the hour to make an appointment. The front desk staff was friendly, listened, and was very accommodating. Second, I was able to get an appointment for the next morning with La Porcha she was so kind and attentive. Initially I was on edge because my hair had some breakage due some prior color that I had done elsewhere. La Porcha deep conditioned my hair, trimmed my split end without cutting my hair off, and she styled my hair leaving it bouncing and behaving! I experienced a miracle today! Keep up the good work L' Esprit Academy (Canton), Ms. Kira Miller, and kudos to your students and future beauticians. read more

This is a student academy. They are non & semi-professionals working on obtaining their cosmetology degree. You get what you pay for here & sometimes more. Don't expect perfection as they are students and they are still learning. Expect to wait awhile. Try not to come here in a rush. If you come for a haircut its going to take twice as long, they have not been doing this for 15 years. Every time I have gone here I have been treated nicely. I would recommend anyone to come here for a discount service and to help the students learn. The teachers come around frequently to oversee the students. Most students seem to be excited to be there. read more

Today was the second time I showed up for an appt and did not received the services I booked. If you are closed due to the weather please have the courtesy to call people and let them know. At the very least have a message on your phone! The first time I made a hair appointment and was told when I arrived that the student did not show up that day. Today both the Student Salon and academy were closed - no phone call, note on the doors, or message when calling their phone #s. I WILL NOT BE BOOKING HERE AGAIN! read more

Rachel did my makeup - she was really nice, and it turned out great, and I also got my hair done and a hand massage. It turns out the academy's prices for salon services are actually really reasonable, so I will probably be going there at some point. read more

This school is a literal hot mess! Firstly, there is one teacher instructing all three classes (level 1, 2, and 3) with over 20 students (which is against state law!) secondly, we barely learn anything especially when you get to level two! The teacher talks to you like she's your friend and doesn't do anything hands on or critique students work to give them insight. We haven't been properly trained on makeup we have to watch videos and that's it! How are we gonna pass our state board or final exam if we barely have any instruction on makeup? Thirdly, once we get signed off to work in the salon we don't know how to do half the services that are advertised (for an example, Brazilian, Extractions, eyebrow, etc) so that leads to us having to turn clients down because no one knows how to preform!!! Lastly, the school is DIRTY AF! Flys always flying around and a terrible ant infestation. I would also like to add they are terrible with inventory in keeping products that students need stocked up. We've tried expressing concerns to the higher ups like the CEO but they seem not to care! Nothing is being done! They take all of our hard earn money and rip us off! I hope this place gets shut down. read more

I'm new to the area and needed my hair done at the last minute. I decided to go here on a whim. I have long thick textured hair. I have never had my hair done by a non African American stylist before. I was hesitant but gave it a shot. Cheyenne did an awesome job and she was pleasant the whole time. She was out of her comfort zone but she pushed through and succeeded. She is a gem. The salon is nicely decorated and everyone there was pleasant and welcoming. I like being able to schedule an appointment and being able to go after work on a weekday. The only negative thing I can say is that the fees are more than other cosmetology schools. $10 for a shampoo and $25 for a thermal (flat iron) is a lot. I usually pay $20 for both combined. read more

Highly disappointed. I received a gift card to this place and am not sure I'll use the rest of it. The student performing my services was pleasant enough, but there were many in the building without an ounce of professionalism in them. And the front desk girls, don't get me started on them. I made an appointment for a gel full set and a pedi for 1:30. The student performing my services arrived at 1:50. I didn't even get services started until 2:15. I later found out that they called the student in early as she was the only one who could do a gel full set. Then told the student that I arrived early! Fail on the receptionists part. The quality of the services was eh. In one week, four of my nails had popped off. (I'm not hard on my hands at all) My heels were rough literally the day after my pedi, I really don't feel like she addressed them enough. For the same price or only a few dollars more, I could use one of the many nail shops in my area, with far better results. read more

I looovvvvvveeeee L'esprit! I have had an issue with my hair becoming very thin lately and i begin coming here to get my hair cut. After just two hair cuts, my hair was fuller and looked a lot thicker. I feel so much more confident with my hair now and I have never had a level of confidence like this before. I've gotten facials here as well and I love the healthy glow i always have from their high-end Dermalogica products. The students are so awesome and I love going in to see them every few weeks or so. They also use American Crew products, of which I had not used before, which changed my hair game for the better. Thanks so much L'esprit for all you have done for me! read more

I've been here several times for various salon services. I think it's a good value for the money and most of the students are really friendly. Today I had my eyebrows done. I think I'll need to bring in eyebrow pics with me from now on, because the last couple times I've went there was some sort of miscommunication about the look I wanted. Today I asked for my eyebrows to be cleaned up, with just a little shape to them. But what I got was half my eyebrow ripped off, with one side higher than the other! I will just need to shade my eyebrows in until they grow back I guess. And until I find a person that really knows what they're doing, that I can go to regularly, it's hit or miss. I can't complain too much, the prices are great! read more

Sarah gave me beachy waves and tips on how to curl my hair, and Alexandra gave me an amazing hand massage. The students here are professional and friendly. I went to this school for Esthetician. I was not given the proper education and or demonstrations promised by our school. I was unprepared for State Boards and did not receive the Dermalogica Training that was in my contract. I was pretty much tossed to the wolves and left to fend for myself. I have told 5 people so far to not come to this school. I will continue to do so until I feel I got my money's worth of Education. I am now Licensed and only to thank myself and former classmate who helped push me through. read more

I have been to L'esprit Academy a few times for different services. The first time I went there, I went for a wax. I was a bit nervous because of the nature of the service. You don't really want someone to mess something like that up! But the girl I had did a very good job and she was incredibly friendly. Her instructor was very sweet and really seemed intent on making sure the student felt confident but also knew what she was doing. Both of them were very nice to me. The second time I went for a wash and blow-out. My appointment was for 10 a.m. and I had to be at the airport at 12:30. I thought this would be plenty of time, but I requested a senior student when I made my appointment because I knew they'd be the most quick. When I arrived, I discovered that the girl I'd been scheduled with had literally just graduated from level 1 the week before. She was very, very friendly but she took forever. At 11:50, I finally had to tell her that I had to go because I needed to get to the airport (which is a good 45 minutes from my house in ok traffic). I also was not really satisfied at all with the end result. It managed to be frizzy and greasy at the same time and I could have done a better job myself. I was really disappointed because I had hoped to have a nice blow-out that would last for the duration of my weekend trip. I ended up showering as soon as I got to my hotel because my hair was a mess. But, it was only like $10 so I just wrote the money off and chalked it up to experience. The only real complaint I have is the attitudes of most of the students. I have been lucky both times to get very sweet, friendly students, but the girls who "greet" you when you walk in or answer the phones are terrible. They act bored, disinterested and totally pissed off that you're even there in the first place. When I was there for my wax appointment, a few of the other girls were actually making fun of the student assigned to me right to her face as she walked by with me. It made me feel 1) terrible for the student assigned to me and 2) incredibly uncomfortable. They should realize that they need to be practicing their professionalism as well as their styling skills while they're there. read more

I came to L'esprit with a group of friends. We decided to get manicures and they were able to accommodate all 4 of us at the same time. The prices are very affordable. It is students performing services and they have to learn somehow. My manicure was probably not the best, but my 3 friends had perfect manicures. The students were very friendly. I have also been to L'esprit for a facial and I thought the experience was very nice. If you are willing to have a student work on perfecting their skills, this is a nice place to try. read more

Terrible service. Filthy place. Unorganized. Never an instructor in sight. Qent for a full head of highlights. Took over 5 hours - and she didnt even blend in my roots. I have bright uneven chunks of bad color all through my head. My hair is completely fried, it feels terrible, crunchy, hard, nasty and is falling out and breaking off left and right. Tangles easily from being overly chemically treated (I'm guessing the bleach being in ther too long) and where were the instructors making sure my hair was being done correctly? I saw one check in at the beginning of service and that's it. Broke out in a rash from a facial service there once, I assumed from a product ingredient of some sort but nope the Dermalogica products they were using were expired, some in 2014!! Like seriously!? Who is in charge & supposed to be running this place!? No thanks! read more

i went to school here, DO NOT waste your money to try to get a beauty education here! i had one instructor that was teaching my class as well as another class. when you are going over the book work during the first phase it is not explained in depth, you are not told what to note for your state board test, and if you ask for help you will be told to just refer back to your book. also i had asked my instructor if we should buy the milady workbooks that went with our books and she told me "no you don't need them because i'm not checking everyone's, that's not my job" i was stunned cause i would've thought having the title of being an educator meant checking and correcting YOUR students work. when you transition into phase two which is hands on, you are showed a demo then on your own with your classmates. we all helped and relied on each other to prep for our boards and school final exam. i'm still currently struggling with taking my theory because i have to learn so much new information and study for it to pass my test! i'm very disappointed that i put so much money into a school that put in the bare minimum! i don't recommend any of my friends that want to be in the beauty industry to go here and i differently don't recommend any others. it's just a overall bad experience and is not the education i was hoping to get! thank you read more

Do not go here! I spent $115 for my hair to turn out orange! My hair was supposed to be brown with a blonde balayage. They did a color remover on my hair and it turned my hair orange. I went back a week later to get my hair fixed and when I left the salon my hair was still orange. I called up there and asked for a refund and they told me that they do not do refunds. They offered for me to come back, so they can fix my hair for free and I told them I was not interested. After leaving the salon twice with orange hair, I do not want any one at that salon touching my hair. read more

I happened across the L'esprit Academy when searching for help in passing the MI Manicurist State Board Practical exam. From the moment I called I knew I had the right place! Jen was incredibly helpful and was able to get me in for a refresher class with the nail tech instructor the very next day! I spent a few hours over the course of two days with the instructor, Zawadi, and was very confident that I had what I needed in order to pass the exam. The people at L'esprit were all incredibly helpful and I really feel like they have a great team environment. I only needed the short time with them to progress with my relicensure, but I believe that if you are thinking about going to a beauty school for a career in cosmetology then you should pick this one! (p.s. I did pass the exam!) read more

BEWARE OF HORRIBLE STAFF AND RECEPTIONIST!!! RUN DOWN AND USE CHEAP OR LOW GRADE PRODUCTS. I got a mani pedi from here. I wait a few minutes until being taken back took about 2 and 1/2 hours to do but very in depth service. I had a great student do my nails who super friendly and we got along great. My nails turned out great and couldn't wait to go back the next day to get my makeup done (it was for prom). However my experience was quite different I booked both my nail and makeup appointments a week in advance. My appointment for makeup was for 2:30 and I arrived right on time. I waited 30 minutes before going up to the receptionist and asking when I'll be taken back. The receptionist proceeded to be extremely rude with me and told me there was nothing she could do and told me I had to continue to wait until my student finished setting up. Turns out they scheduled wrong and left me with no student to do my makeup so they called in a student to do it last minute who ended up having to use her own products to do my makeup. The girl did amazing on my makeup and was incredibly sweet. The students are great from my experience but the staff and receptionist are extremely rude. It was their fault they scheduled wrong and instead of apologizing to me for the wait they proceeded to justify themselves saying the students take longer when that wasn't the case. I probably won't be coming back. read more

I have came here multiple times for color and a cut but this is definitely the last time. They had me lay my head in the bowl for three hours with no support under my neck doing two bleach washes and after one of the teachers was like hows your next and i said oh its been better and she laughed and said yeah i cant do it for more than 30 minutes... I started losing feeling in my arms and kept fidgeting around and when i did the hair dresser told me to stop. Since you know i had nothing to do for three hours I was just people watching first off one girl comes over to the girl who was doing my hair and starts talking how much she hates doing color or highlights and thinks its rude when people take her hair dryer to dry there own hair... That maybe should have been a hint to her shes doing something wrong or shes not in the right field... But still wrong place wrong time. Next there was a little old lady next to me getting her hair washed,i got the idea shes been there plenty because everyone seemed to know her and it was apparent she had a reputation for being needy, thats fine hut what wasn't fine was the girl washing her hair mouthing swear words like " f off" and "bitch" unprofessional and just flat out inappropriate that would not fly anywhere else and it started to be the turning point as to why i will never return. Then one of the other girls came over to me while she had a client and said "i remember you. Why didn't you request me.?" I thought that was not appropriate and unprofessional considering last time i had her she was crying telling me how she hates her bf and wants to "cut his toes off" yes that was her actual response... So sorry i didn't want you cutting my hair. My bad. Okay so finally i can go sit in the chair again and the teacher is joking how my hair looks like mufasa- i have only gotten my hair done here for two years now- and says they cant lighten it because who ever put this "horrible red" its not coming out today. She kept going on and on about the red so i finally said " well thats ironic since i got it done here with one of your best students. Now when i came in i had realistic goals of not going to be a beach blonde today but they made it orange... You could even see on there faces they didn't like it but it was time to go so she said if i don't like it come back another day. While my girl was blow drying my hair shes talking to another student how shes mad she missed her breaks and cant wait to leave. Very disappointed in you guys this time since i work with so many young ladies who i always try to talk you up and send business your way and many have gone, that will end today. Rude girls talking bad about there clients and being overcharged for something i didn't even ask for. You guys dropped the ball recently and this bee class is rude uncompassionate and unprofessional save your money go somewhere else read more
