I was assigned to this doctor by my new health insurance so I came in without any particular expectations. As a new patient, I had to fill out several forms but it went very quickly since I filled everything out on their ipad. The office is nice and spacious and the staff is friendly. They start by taking your vitals in a little side room, which is actually open to the public and can be seen from the waiting area, which I thought was a little weird. It's not like I was undressed or anything at that point, but just the fact that people can watch you stand on the scale and have your blood pressure taken feels like it should be more private. After that I was taken to an exam room to wait but was told they were waiting for another room to open up for the doctor to see me. I waited for about 15 minutes and then they moved me to the exam room right next door, which apparently was my "official" exam room. I then waited again, and finally the doctor came. To be fair, she apologized for making me wait and said that she was exceptionally busy that day. My overall impression of Dr. Quy is that she knows her stuff and listens well, despite being in a hurry. I had some knee pain and she did a quick physical exam and quickly came to the same conclusion as what I had suspected. She seemed very practical, knowledgeable and was not dismissive as some doctors can be. I brought my kids here for only one reason because their doctor was retired and referred them to Dr. Huong Quy. I called this clinic yesterday to ask her about my son's lab results, but all I heard was a bunch of the receptionists at the front desk told me that doctor was busy and the results were good nothing to concern even though these staffs were not knowledgeable about the lab works. I requested to talk to Dr. Quy, after business hour , but they refused and said doctor didn't want to talk to you because she had no time . They said the only time she could talk to you was you had to make an appointment to see doctor in person. I told them that I am a full time single mom working person. If I have to come in to see her for only to know about the lab results of my son was just a waste of my whole day off from work, but the doctor didn't care. I Decided To come to see the doctor this morning. When I come in, all I heard from the doctor was the yelling and raising voice at me "you know what you bothered my time so much only about the lab results , but you wanted to talk to me and I told my staffs to tell you already nothing to talk about". OMG... I was so shocked and told her none of the doctors ever talked to a patient like you. I came in to ask you if my son needs to continue taking VitaminD or not because your staffs were not knowledgeable about medicine or my son health condition so they couldn't answer my questions. She continued and said I have never requested Vitamin D lab works for the patients and if you want to give to your son just go ahead. I told her that you are a doctor how could you advised me kept giving my son vitamin D without a blood test to see if he really needed it or not. Luckily , I am working in the health field too as I know taking too much Vitamin D will lead to increase the level of calcium in your blood and will lead to hyperthyroidism . I tried to correct this doctor by saying we are both working in the health care. We have to help patients instead of harming the patients. She didn't respond to my comments and tried to kick me out of her clinic by asking a rude question with attitude " anything else and if you were not happy about my services, go somewhere else" I totally regretted to take my kids to this horrible doctor. Parents please be cautious about this doctor. She could harm your children's health if you guys are not familiar with lab works and she gave you guys the wrong advices just like she did to mePlease stay away from this doctor. I've been going here since their old office down the street on the 2nd story. Idk why they have 2 stars!! I LOVE Dr. Huong. She is prompt and nice and funny and I feel like I can be myself and not embarrassed or uncomfortable with my visits. Their new office is very clean and bright, parking is easy in the back. I've been going to this doctor office since I was literally still in the womb!!! The man who ran this practice prior to Dr. Huong literally delivered me, then his children worked in the office. He has handed over practice to Dr. Huong and throughout the years even though I moved to Laguna beach and Irvine I still would drive all the way to this office. This is a judgement free zone. I never feel uncomfortable and I come to her for absolutely EVERYTHING. And she asks about stuff that I came in for like years and years and years ago just to check if there's still issues with that. there's no wait, I usually call and make an appt. You can get same day appts then the pharmacy is literally next door. I used to have Kaiser for 1 year and it was such a nightmare. You gotta schedule a call with a phone nurse THEN wait weeks to schedule a doctor's appt or lie and act like you're in your death bed to get seen earlier. It's just a whole ordeal. I'm finally back on caloptima and yay so happy to get to come back here it's so convenient and easy and fast. read more

I'm updating my review 3 years later because I've been contacted by Christina from Dr. Tran's office last week about my review that I left here a while ago. Christina doesn't state how she's related to the office but she contacts me privately to threaten with legal action to delete my review. I explained to her that my review was an honest review and she cannot scare me into deleting my review. She then proceeds to ask me questions that would violate HIPAA and patient privacy rights and when I didn't give her an answer, she said my review was fake. She is repeatedly trying to bully me into deleting an HONEST review. I'm not sure how their office operates but when there's MULTIPLE negative reviews of the same establishment, there's definitely some change that needs to be made. It's rare to see an office that offers quick appointments and the staff are friendly, ready to help patients on phone and in person. I had an appointment today as a new patient to get blood work, but I was forced to sign the arbitration and the privacy notice form. Before agreeing and signing the forms, I asked for information about their privacy policies but received none. Every office should have copies when asked by patients or at least have the notice posted where patients could see them. As mentioned in other reviews, the arbitration form states that you would be giving up your constitutional rights if anything were to happened to you due to malpractices. The form also states that the patient doesn't need to sign to receive services; however, they still refused to provide me service because the arbitration form was a "requirement" for them. It honestly feels as if they see you as a potential lawsuit rather than a patient before the doctor even meets you. Went home with no blood work and was extremely hungry, but I'm glad I left to find a more decent office where patients are met and treated with care. read more

My daughter had an appointment with this doctor yesterday. She's been her PCP for years now, and I'm disgusted at how we were treated. My mom took my daughter, and even though the doctor's name AND information were both listed on the insurance card, they denied us and demanded cash payment. They said the insurance (Health Net) said she was an out of network provider and no claims will be paid, which is a load of bull because I stayed on the phone with Health Net and not only did they confirm we've never missed a payment or had a lapse in insurance, that it was billed incorrectly which resulted in last claim being denied. Even AFTER Health Net told me they had been in contact with the provider's office, they STILL took money from my 65 year old mother. "We'll give it back to you if they pay us." That's not how insurance works. They proceeded to tell her that if we didn't have such bad insurance, it wouldn't be such a problem. That Obamacare (which I do not quality for because I exceed their income max) would have been better. First of all--this was an agreement you made with my insurance, no one asked you to partake in their network. I am solely and financially responsible for my daughter and when I spoke to them I indicated I will NOT be paying out of pocket and they talked my mother into it anyway. You can keep the $40, I hope it was worth your reputation. read more

PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY TO THE END Please listen to what all the other reviews have said and avoid this practice at all costs. This doctor cares nothing but money and her patient care is zero to none. I've been hesitant to write a review until my parent and I were able to fully leave the practice with our medical records intact. My parent and I were patients at this location long before this doctor took over the practice. The previous doctor was a male who cared for his patients but ended up selling the practice due to old age and eventually passed away. My parent kept going to this doctor long after I left and they would return from their doctor visits with a number of complaints about Dr. Quy: Dr. Quy would dismiss their concerns, made my parent feel stupid for asking questions, rushed through their appointment, forget the details of my parent's care, minimizes my parent's needs, berated my parent, etc. When I've finally had enough of my parent's mistreatment, I set out to change my parent's doctors (my parent only had Medi-Cal) which coincided with my move back to OC where I changed PCPs as well. Knowing my way around, I have been contacting my previous PCPs to move my medical records to UCI Medical Center (my current PCP) as well as receive a patient copy myself. However, read the other online reviews and you'll see that it's a difficult process to obtain medical records from this office. I first called asking for my medical records (copies for my new PCP and copies for me) and was told that I would need to contact my new PCP to have them request the paperwork. This is not how it works. For those who are unaware, the patient calls the old doctor and asks the OLD office to transfer to the NEW office. I even called UCI Medical Center to verify this process and they told me "that's now how it works." I get push back from Dr. Quy's office saying this is how it is, until I tell her that per California Health & Safety Code section 123100 it is a patient's right to receive their medical record copies. I'm later told by the receptionist they have to speak to the manager, puts me on hold, and then repeats the same thing. I said, if I provide the office a written statement requesting my records, they are REQUIRED to give me them. If not, then I'll go ahead and file a complaint with the California Medical Board. She puts me on hold again to speak to the manager again and says they will need my phone number. Likely a tactic to wear me out. I ask them, "why do you need my number? Her: "To contact you back" Me: "Why do you need to contact me back?" Her: "Because my manager will need to speak to the doctor regarding this request" Me: "Why does the manager need to speak to the doctor regarding this request? Is there something wrong with my medical records?" Her: "No, they just need to verify your medical records when the doctor is free" Um, excuse me verify what exactly? Thankfully, UCI was able to work around this issue and get my records transferred. As for receiving my own personal records, well... I was able to receive my records from the most recent year of service. All past records with the old doctor who sold the business to her were "gone." Now listen, doctors who take over an existing practice can notify previous and current patients of their change in care AND provide medical records from their previous doctor as a COURTESY. I'm not annoyed about that, because legally, the new practice does not have to retain these medical records. What I'm annoyed about is what they did to those records or should I say, the lies told me about my records. When I pressed on about what happened to my old medical records, they said they didn't retain them, because the old doctor used paper records while Dr. Quy uses software to manage her patients. So I asked, well what happened, did you shred them? Burn them? Make paper airplanes? What happened? The receptionist said they'd have to talk to the doctor and since I came on a Saturday, the doctor was not in, because that makes perfect sense. Why list your hours as open on a Saturday but not have the doctor be in? I later get a call telling me they found those paper records along with my mother's as well. After two weeks and around $10 spent for copies, I have my parent's and my medical records. As difficult as this doctor and the whole process has been, the young receptionist I did work with was kind, courteous and professional, while the older one was not. So shoutout to her (no not you the old one) for working with us. Once I think this nightmare is over, the office proceeded to call my parent shortly after and harassed them, asking if my parent was planning on leaving Dr. Quy's practice, why I was trying to get my mother's medical record and said if my parent leaves, how would the office make money? Dr. Quy has been caring for my husband, kids, parents, and me (and now members of my extended family) during the last three years and I couldn't speak highly enough of her professionalism and bedside manners. She's thorough, takes time to explain everything, and answers all questions and concerns, which is of utmost importance especially when I'm bringing in my sick babies for a visit. Dr. Quy may be on Bolsa Avenue but she's far from your stereotypically Bolsa doctor. One of the things my husband and I love most about having her as our physician is that she speaks perfect English and is forward-thinking compared to the many old school Vietnamese doctors in Little Saigon. However, she also takes great care of my parents and communicates to them in our native Vietnamese. Her office even offers the convenience of in-house blood draws so we can save ourselves the time and inconvenience of having to go elsewhere for lab work. The phlebotomist is also very good and gentle because my husband, who hates needles, didn't even realize she had drawn his blood until he asked her if she will be starting soon and she responded that she was already done :) Dr. Quy's staff is also wonderful, most notably Thu who is so sweet and courteous. If you're looking for a great family doctor who is as professional as she is personable, look no further than Dr. Quy. read more

My family is extremely loyal to this office since the doctor who preceded Dr. Huong was our Primary Care Physician since before I was born. Because of this, my parents have pushed me to continue going here for Dr. Huong's services (it's been two years now). My first visit with her was fine, and my parents do like her (hence the two stars instead of just one), so this is just my personal sentiments regarding her office. I have made a few appointments since 2014, and after that first appointment, her attitude towards me seems to have shifted. I don't deny that she is well-versed in the knowledge necessary for a Family Practitioner, but I feel that a doctor needs to be more than that; he or she should genuinely care for his or her patients. While her staff is fine, she has come off to me as rude and uncaring. I made an appointment to come in for a shot once since she had stated that I would be able to receive it then. When the date came around, I was told that she didn't say I could come in that date for that shot and that I needed to wait a while more before I could get it. While this was not a big deal, it was just a little frustrating at how inconvenient this was. On another occasion, I needed assistance with filling out medical forms for school. I had also made an appointment in advance, since I'm well aware of how busy she is. After waiting for at least 30 minutes, she tells me, "Hurry up, I'm really busy." It then takes about 30 seconds for me to get out of there, feeling so insignificant. Her statement isn't false, but it just made me feel like a nuisance that was a waste of her time (even though I'm sure she still gets paid for my visit), not a patient. I've been reluctant to come back ever since, unless it's absolutely necessary. Nonetheless, I come back at my parent's urging, alerting health issues and the possibility that she was just having a rough day all those times I had gone. However, the next couple of appointments with her are about the same, where I feel like she has no respect for me and that any concerns that I bring up are stupid. I felt and continue to feel so uncomfortable around her, as if she judges me before I even open my mouth to speak (maybe it's just her tone that makes me feel so judged). I don't even want to open up most of the time, because I feel like she might not even respect me enough to respect our patient-doctor relationship. The most recent event that leads to write this review (something I pretty much never do despite my aspiration to become a known Yelper) is when I came for an appointment regarding prolonged headaches (also had to wait an hour and a half to get called in even if the appointment was made days in advance and I even came in a bit earlier). A little extraneous, but I've been experiencing 2-3 mild to a little over moderate headaches every single day for almost an entire month now, whereas I've never really had headaches before and there is minimal logic as to why this is happening now. She essentially treats me like I'm way overreacting and tells me that everyone gets headaches and that this is completely normal. She proceeds to shut down any ideas I've proposed, including one from a highly esteemed medical professional that seems much more probable, and repeats everything in an overly simplified version like I'm a ten-year-old who doesn't understand the words coming out of her mouth. I gain little to no insight on what's happening to me every time, and this is probably the last time I'll ever step foot into the office again. Maybe this is just her as a person, and maybe I might have been a little harsh. While Dr. Huong may be the perfect doctor for others, she is not for me. read more

The doctor there just cares for herself, not for the patients. Last year I had a car accident and one of my ear was ringing. I ended up to go check my ear at this doctor, she was my primary doctor at that time. Couple months later, I needed the record for checking my ear there and I came to ask for it. However, at first they did not want to give it to me. Because that doctor knew I got in a car accident, she said if I use that record for the court, she would not give me that. She said she did not want to get involve in that situation. Nevertheless, I did not tell her I needed the record for what purpose. As a patient, I had a right to have the record about my heath, what happened to my ear, that's it. Finally, she came to her room and brought me a paper which had my personal information on it, but did not show any thing about my visit for the tinnitus AT ALL. read more

Like many people I was looking for a family doctor that I could call MY family doctor for many years. I came across Dr. Quy about two years ago and I don't think I will ever change. She explains in detail my symptoms and even for a simple blood test she breaks it down for me. The wait is short and the office is always kept clean. The staff is friendly and always prompt with their work so that an impatient guy like me can come in and out for simple check-up. I rarely give out reviews unless they're good and if you're sick or need a quick check-up I would definitely give her a visit. Dr. Quy speaks fluently in both English and Vietnamese so don't be intimidated by the Vietnamese environment.
