Unfortunately, I often felt that my concerns were not being thoroughly investigated. Whenever I came in with a medical concern, the approach was frequently to prescribe medication rather than look into the underlying cause of the issue. I would have preferred a more comprehensive evaluation and discussion about what might actually be contributing to my symptoms. Another issue was the wait time. Although appointments were scheduled for a specific time, I would often wait 30-45 minutes before being seen. Once Dr. Nguyen came into the room, the appointment would sometimes last less than five minutes. I frequently had to continue asking questions or bringing up additional concerns in hopes of having enough time to feel that I had been properly evaluated. One of my biggest concerns was my menstrual cycle. As a female patient, I had hoped that this issue would receive more attention and investigation. However, whenever I brought up concerns regarding my menstrual cycle, the main approach was to run bloodwork and check for PCOS. After my bloodwork came back, I was told that I did not have PCOS, but I did not feel that other possible causes were adequately explored. Because I have an HMO insurance plan, I needed a referral from my primary care physician in order to see a specialist. Unfortunately, obtaining referrals was another significant challenge I experienced while under Dr. Nguyen's care. This made it particularly difficult to get the specialized care I felt I needed. Overall, after being a patient for six years, I often felt that my concerns were treated symptomatically rather than investigated thoroughly. I believe patients deserve to feel heard, have their concerns taken seriously, and receive appropriate follow-up and referrals when further evaluation is needed.

She sent me for completely unnecessary X-rays (which by the way seemed like they sent every single patient for x rays-- why would they do that?!!) After spending a few hours there, the doc said she could t help and sent me on my way saying the X-rays showed nothing and maybe I should get an MRI? I went to the dermatologist the following Monday who simply shaved down the callous and solved the issue. What a complete misuse of medical care. Shame on you Hoag Urgent Care! 2 stars for friendly staff and low wait time, but I would seriously look into why they send every single person to X-ray!

I returned on January 3, 2026, around 12:00 PM. This time, the front desk staff told me I had to call to make an appointment. I tried to explain that the doctor specifically instructed me to come in directly for the X-ray, but the staff member did not listen or respond to my explanation. The staff member was not wearing a name tag. When I asked for her name, she said Sandy (I am not sure if this was her real name). When I asked for her last name, she told me she does not have a last name and then walked away. This behavior was extremely rude and unprofessional. We are patients and paying customers, and this was the worst customer service I have experienced. A medical office should provide clear communication, accountability, and basic courtesy. I hope this review reaches Hoag Medical Group management so this issue can be addressed and staff receive proper training.

In all honesty, I really didn't think picking my PCP was important, I just needed to have someone assigned. I literally chose him for the fact he was close to my house. Wow, I got lucky! We went through my entire medical history and my current health and not once did he rush through the appointment - we spent around 50 minutes together, if not more. It is an understatement to say that Dr. Barrett completely understands how to care for a patient in every aspect of their health. He is compassionate, thorough, and so so smart. I am so grateful that I chose Dr. Barrett so carelessly because he is so much more than a Primary Care Physician. The other time she called she said "Dr. Minar didn't come in today" but she would "ask if Dr minar would release the results to her so she could review with me". WHAT?!? REALLY?!? I don't want a second hand guess. I need to know if I need I have a tendon tear and need to schedule appointments and follow up care for a surgery. This office is a joke. Oh an also. When I first walked in to my original appt the receptionist was talking on the phone with (I'm assuming another office or a patient) and Dr Minar was in her office (which is in another room). While on the phone Dr Minar was reading test lab results and shouting them to the receptionist from the other room. So either you get a call back with your labs and other patients waiting in the waiting room here them too or you don't get a call back at all. Either way. Don't go to her.

Today, I had a very severe case of the flu. Although Dr. Nguyen was fully booked, her kind associate, Uyen, checked with her, and Dr. Nguyen still made time to squeeze me in because I urgently needed Tamiflu. She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure her patients receive the best possible care. I will definitely recommend Dr. Nguyen to all of my family members and relatives.
