While Sylvan offers a helpful learning program for many, this was not the best fit for my child's…read morelearning style. The staff was professional and courteous to me, so I don't have any complaints about them. However, the constant rotation of teachers, having students working primarily on a tablet, and pairing students of widely varied abilities to learn from 1 teacher just wasn't what my child needed to succeed. (This may work just fine for your child.) Unfortunately, it took me a while to realize this after spending quite a large sum of money that could've been directed elsewhere. That being said, I have a friend whose child thrived quite nicely with Sylvan's tutoring so the expected results from this learning environment are likely very child-specific. It is worth a try if your child could use some academic enrichment. Figure out your child's learning style and cater the help you seek to their individual needs.

We were concerned that he was behind in phonics and math due to the decreased hearing. We started considering private schools, but due to our work schedules and distance to schools, we researching Total Tutoring and never looked back. Total Tutoring has been amazing!! Our son has developed so much in the year he has been tutored that we are confident he is kindergarten ready this fall! After every tutoring session, we receive a session report reviewing what was worked on and what needs work for the next session. The tutors are all certified, background checked, etc. They come to you, which makes it super convenient. I do not have to go to another business/building/shopping center. Actually, if you day care of after care allows it, the tutor can tutor your child at their location while you are still at work! Also amazing so it does not cut into dinner time, bed time, etc. They are an amazing resource! So much so that we decided to tutor our daughter who is in first grade. The tutors will work on homework if she has it that day. Kaitlin, the director, is very responsive and open to listening to any issues, concerns you have. She will work to find you the tutor that will fit your child's needs. Honestly, I do not think we could have made a better choice! We highly recommend Total Tutoring!

My daughter is 7 and has been receiving tutoring through Total Tutoring for several years. I…read morestarted my daughter young because I feel that her education is very important. At first the sessions were great! The tutors were effective and my daughter made a lot of progress in a short period of time. Honestly, I was very happy with the results of the tutoring sessions, and as a result, decided to have my daughter receive Spanish tutoring. I contacted Total Tutoring and organized for a spanish tutor to come to my house for weekly lessons. These sessions were scheduled for 30 minutes at the request of the tutor due to my daughters young age. The lessons began in September of last year, and as of today, she does not understand the phrase "Hola, como estas?". Needless to say her progress has been minimal. During the time my daughter has been receiving lessons from her tutor, Nannette Simmons, I noticed that she was consistently showing up late and leaving early which is discouraging considering the cost of each lesson. I contacted the agency to express my concerns and asked for a different tutor. I was told by Total Tutoring that they would try to find someone new to replace Nannette. Yesterday (December 2nd), the tutor again showed up late, so I decided to set a 30 minute timer. No surprise, the tutor was leaving early. I informed Nannette that should would no longer be tutoring my daughter and told her it was because she was consistently showing up late and leaving early. After each tutoring session we receive an email with a session summary; this is meant to highlight progress and address areas of weakness for my daughter to work on. I received the session report for the final summary and it was blank. I contacted Total Tutoring, cc'ing Nannette, expressing my opinion that this was unprofessional. I received an update session summary which was even more unprofessional!!! Nannette's updated session summary placed the blame entirely on my daughter!!! She took no responsibility for her actions. I responded to Total Tutoring again, extremely upset with the unprofessionalism shown by Nannette. Total Tutoring's reply was that they should have edited her comments before sending them to me. They took no responsibility for Nannette and did not acknowledge her unprofessionalism even knowing my frustration. They did not apologize for her comments, only stating I should not have seen them. Total Tutoring would get a higher review because they do have some good tutors, but customer service is key to me. I need professionalism and I need a good example for my daughter. I am active duty military and I have zero tolerance for adults who place blame everywhere but on themselves while taking no time for self-reflection. Our family was an ERG customer over an 11 year period for our two sons. The first half of that time…read morewas very positive and we regularly referred others to ERG. The next couple years not as good but adequate and our referrals ended. The last couple years a complete disappointment culminating in our decision to recently end the relationship. The quality of the tutors is not what it once was and the current Office Manager was unaware of the specifics of the ACT Program in which a son was recently enrolled and the results of the Program unsatisfactory for the cost. Our advice is to shop around as there are other options in the Severna Park area.
