The Christmas Show was wonderful. We go almost every year but this year was the best. The voices, the dancing, the humor and the orchestra were great. The show had very emotionally moving moments. The food is always delicious. Michael, our Server was very accommodating and attentive. The young woman at the bakery was very sweet. Regan, the host was very professional. A group of us attended Hunterdon Hills Playhouse and its entertainment by the Jersey Tenors. This was the Playhouse's first week after being closed for some time. This was my first time here. The place was great, and we walked in only to be greeted by magnificent carolers.... That was a great start. The servers were friendly and I give them a 5 star rating. The food was good and was pretty much what I expected. Then came the Christmas show. Honestly it felt like I was at one of my kids 5th grade play, and the ONLY reason I would be there was to support my kid. This show was silly at best and sometimes annoying by the screeching, and yelling and baby talk. It would have been cute if it were 5th graders, but for the money I paid, it was unbearable and we all agreed and left right before intermission. I'll revisit I'm sure but not for this kind of show. read more

We just had my daughter's wedding here on June 3rd and I had to write a review for couples who are looking for a perfect venue with outstanding personal service. When we toured the Playhouse, Josh, the service director and our maitre d' for the wedding, answered all our questions including the ones we didn't think to ask. His sense of humor matched ours and this played a big role in our decision to choose this venue. Let's face it, this can be a stressful time and keeping a sense of humor is very important. The venue itself is beautiful. We had the ceremony outside, down by the lake surrounded by weeping willows, a gazebo, and a little wooden bridge. Perfect for pictures. We had the reception in the smaller room which has a skylight and lots of windows. The tables looked beautiful, the food was delicious, and the staff was amazing. Definitely put Hunterdon Hills Playhouse on your list of places to check out! read more

The employees are all gracious and friendly and the production we saw was well done. The food is average, but we weren't really there for the food as much as the show and the company. Was disappointed that the menu shown on their web site did not match the actual menu so two dishes we were hoping to order were unavailable. Mentioned that to an employee as well as submitted a comment card to that effect. But we will return as there are some other good shows coming! read more

I got married here on October 28, 2011. I truly only have good things to say about the place, especially Richard (owner), Rene (special events contact), and Josh (the service director and our maitre d'). They are so kind and helpful. Rene was in constant contact with me over the year before the wedding and coordinated all kinds of details I hadn't even considered. Josh was nothing short of perfect the day of the event. He saved the night on several occasions, and kept all our centerpieces and decorations safe for us for a couple days. The entire experience was just fabulous. Some of our family members were skeptical when we went with HHP at first, because they have always been traditional banquet hall folks, but they were truly impressed and awed at how well everything went and how gorgeous it all looked. My dad later said, "I'm so glad you went with this place. I can't imagine your wedding having looked any nicer than this." When my dad admits being impressed, then I know it was good! Because it was cold, they allowed us to get married on stage rather than outside in the gazebo. I had zero vision for how the stage would look for the ceremony, and it was set up beautifully (I gave them lanterns and stacks of books, and they let us use their arch). And the food was GREAT!! Unfortunately i didn't get the chance to eat as much as I wanted, but I got the most compliments on how fresh everything was.The bartenders did not skimp on the alcohol in the drinks, which was appreciated. The prices were also extremely reasonable for the level of service they provided. All in all, I highly recommend this place for ANY special event-- not just a wedding. As another reviewer mentioned, there are 2 rooms, one larger one that can accommodate ~200 people, and a smaller atrium that can accommodate ~90 people (my wedding was small, so we had it in the atrium). I'm looking forward to attending some of their plays when I move to NJ next year. read more

We went to see Wally's Cafe this past weekend. The play was very cute, actors very engaging. As far as dinner, the food was not much to be desired, very typical wedding type food. The staff was another story. They appeared very overworked, running around huffing and puffing, no personalized attention given, visibily sweating, and simply appeared unhappy working there. It took a long time for everyone to get attention from their waiters Not pleasant to be around. At one point, the dessert waitress who was bringing out more desserts to the buffet area actually pushed two senior citizens out of her way and rolled her eyes at how they didn't move! Beyond rude. When we walked in, the girls selling homemade bread just stared and could care less we were waiting. After 10 minutes of no assistance, we asked to be seated only to be scolded that we didn't get our seat card (no one told us about any card). Overall, the place is clean, play area is very creative, but management needs to fix staffing. I won't be back as it was a bit depressing being there. read more

We have been here a couple of times, but they were "pre-pandemic". Fast forward a few years and the only thing that has changed is the location of the "store and baked goods". Most recently, we attempted to watch "I left my dignity in my other purse" starring Joyce Dewitt (Janet from Three's company). The show started almost an hour late because one of the actors "got stuck in traffic". That was when it went down hill. The show itself was not funny. The storyline dragged so much and there were periods of total silence for no apparent reason. We were so bored that even though we spent $150+, we left at the intermission. As for the venue, the decor is outdated. The shows, menu options and general setup are geared toward an older crowd. I am 45 and was one of the youngest in the crowd. The food is good and the staff are very nice. I just can't figure out why at a playhouse, you would be selling womens costume jewelry, bedazzled and embroidered shirts and jackets and baked bread. It felt like a church craft sale. I am not exactly sure we will be going back and would definitely NOT recommend this current show. read more

Think twice before making reservations for shows at Hunterdon Hills Playhouse. A group of us had planned to see a show there in June which got cancelled. Hunterdon Hills Playhouse refuses to refund our money. Other venues in the tri-state area have refunded money due to show cancellations. We do not understand why Hunterdon thinks it is okay to keep our money. There is no guarantee that they will reschedule our show for a date when all of us can go. While we used to enjoy going there in the past, we are very disappointed in their attitude. read more

There must be a new owner because the waitress was horrible and the prime rib was all fat. Took 35 minutes to get a soda and the show was boring and dull. I wanted to fall asleep. The singing was off and the dancing was also off. More like a middle school play. Very disappointed. After coming here for six years .....It looks like the last time. read more

My Senior Club from Rockland County, NY has been here on a number of occasions over the years and has never received a complaint from our members. The venue, indoors and out, is beautifully decorated, clean, well set up so that everyone has a view of the stage, with a great menu and attentive service. We just returned from another trip and look forward to returning next year. The dessert smorgasbord is heavenly with a special and varied selection of sugar-free delights, and everyone remarked on the spotless rest rooms, especially the ladies, who often find fault many times. Why I don't see more reviews on this place amazes me, but we will certainly share our experiences with other clubs in our area who are looking for a similar experience. read more

After coming here twice, I can say that the food and the show were both excellent. My most recent entree consisted green vegetables and chicken which were not overcooked, but flavored well. The place also seems to be popular among the elderly because both time I went, the room was always packed with senior citizens. The Holiday Show opened this week and I saw it today. It was terrific. The singers and dancers were very talented and the 6-piece house band was Broadway quality. The place was sold out primarily with various groups of senior citizens. The food was tasty and well-prepared though hardly spectacular. The dessert tables were extensive with a wide assortment of goodies. Overall, drinks were reasonably priced and the service was good. We did not get any time to explore the grounds which are said to be quite nice. We did, however, purchase some of the fresh bakery items that were on sale in the lobby. For our group, it was a two-hour chartered bus ride so I doubt we would visit on our own. The quality of the performers was quite high and it shows how difficult the competition in the theatrical field is. There are so many talented people out there and they all can't make it big. But you will enjoy the show. read more

I attended this quaint playhouse to see a show. The grounds are lovely, and there is ample parking. Before the show, I ate lunch. I had the jumbo shrimp platter with fries. The food was average, but it was enough to make me full. The dessert buffet was delicious with a large selection of cheesecake, eclair, and other sweet goodies. I found it odd that the dessert buffet was in another room. I had to walk to the room with my dessert plate to get my goodies. I think they could have brought a dessert tray to each table instead of walking to another room. Beverages were not included with the lunch; however, there were coffee, hot tea, and water at each table that was included with the lunch. There is a bar in the back where you can get soda, and other beverages. The show was fun. This wasn't a Broadway caliber production, but I enjoyed it.Also, the ladies room was spacious and clean. I hope to return to see another production soon. Most of the audience members were very elderly, so this is a great place to take your grandparents as it seems that they cater to the elderly. Additionally, there is a bake shop and a store on site. read more

Don't book over the phone with them! They undercharge you (and they don't send tickets or receipts) then call you back to let you know that they are charging your card again! Then if you dispute it with them they cancel your reservation with no immediate refund. With no paperwork it's your word against theirs! Very unprofessional and unethical. Beware! read more

My husband and I brought our 15 year old nephew to the playhouse to see Butterflies are Free. First, both my husband and nephew enjoyed their meals as I did not like the chicken cordon bleu at all. We all enjoyed the desserts. As for the show it was extremely boring and very very long. We were ready to walk out, that's how much we disliked the show. I have taken my mother there for a few Christmas shows and always had a good night. This is why we thought a comedy show would be fun. We didn't hear many laughs through out the night so I don't believe we were alone on this feeling. When we first got there and were being shown to our seats, I told the woman (didn't ask her name) if someone could announce my nephews birthday. I was told they don't make announcements. But, I believe at intermission several other people were given a piece of cake and sang to for their birthdays AND at the end of the show the main actor ANNOUNCED ALL OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO GOT A PIECE OF CAKE A HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!! I'm sorry, I thought the facility didn't make announcements? Needless to say I was really really mad that night and embarrassed we took my nephew there for his birthday. Carol read more

Comparing this with other dinner theatres, it is excellent. The food was very good, the service outstanding and the play (Twist & Shout, an original which runs until Aug. 22, 2015) was most enjoyable. Matinees are run at 11:30 am Mon. to Sat;($63.50) Sundays at 2:30 pm ($68.50) and evening on Sat. at 6:30 pm. (70.50) Group rates (group rates run less). The play tells the story of the music of the 1960's from American Bandstand to the Age of Aquarium with 8 musical talents and one rockin' band. The musical is presented in a group of 10 or so vignette with a very loose little plot in each, but it's really about the music. My favorite was Soul gets Folked up with a Peter, Paul and Mary-like trio dueling with a soul/rock group. If you were a teen in the 60's, you'll be seat bopping for two hours. We sat at with a group of 8 at round table F2 on the pit floor and it was a great. When the show started, we were able to move our padded seats against the railing so we could look directly at the stage without any problem. Lunch was served with six choices, a salad, coffee and a most impressive dessert bar with more than a dozen mini-selections and a special sugar-free bar. There's vegan choices. The food isn't gourmet, but is is good and excellent for this type of venue. This is a show you can take your children or grandchildren to. Don't remember one "bad" word in whole play. I have never met such hospitality - we were greeted at the door, asked if all was fine at our table and greeted at the door when we left. The server smiled through requests for extra water, more bread and gravey, and requests for such as rice for someone with a spice allergy to things like spicy French Fries. read more

We recently had our wedding at the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse, and everything about the entire experience was better than we could have ever imagined. We had to plan our wedding from 6 hours away, and Rene the event coordinator was amazing with helping us put the reception together. Every email we sent to her was answered quickly, and she would even re-arrange her schedule to meet with us on weekends when we happened to be in town. Everything about the reception was flawless. Our guests LOVED the cocktail hour in the atrium. Richard, the owner, who was present during our entire event to make sure everything went perfectly, started the cocktail hour early when some of our guests started arriving. Although we unfortunately missed most of the cocktail hour for photos, Richard made sure we got a tray of food, and it was delicious! We are pretty sure we saw some extra appetizers on there that we didn't even order, and they were all fantastic! And the photos we took both outside by the lake and inside both the atrium and the grand room came out beautifully. Our cocktail hour started only about a half hour after the matinee play that day ended, but the turnaround was so fast and everything was ready to go before any of our guests arrived. The reception was better than we could have imagined. Everything was set up exactly as we had envisioned, and our cake turned out so cute! The dinner was delicious, and the cheesecake wedding cake was amazing! (The cake was so good that we ate all of our 1 year anniversary cake before out 3 week anniversary!). But, we think our guests most enjoyed the 5 hours of open bar with top shelf liquor. They even stocked several special drinks that we requested for no extra charge! At the end of the night, everyone was having such a good time that Richard let us keep the party going for a few extra songs. So many of our guests told us it was the best wedding they've ever been to, and we have Hunterdon Hills Playhouse to thank for that. Literally the only thing we wish we could differently if have our wedding here twice instead of once. read more
